Gruun will take a moment and clear his eyes and switch out to his Greataxe, preferring its heft than greater reach. He'll move up beside Killian, "Get up that rope, I'll cover you"
OOC: Thanks for the patience guys, its been a crazy couple weeks at work. Seems to be getting back down to normal so I should be more consistent again.

Parasites vs. Gruun: 26 Killian CON Save: 17 Gruun CON Save (+Aura of Protection): 29
As Gruun runs past, the shambling creature nearby explodes into a swarm of parasites, but the creatures disperse before reaching the quick bugbear. The other two, alternates of Hox and Aradurk, break down, dissolving into slime that coats the ground near the party's feet. Aradurk, having begun his climb toward Hox, avoids the ichor but Killian and Gruun take 16.5 poison damage as the paladin sends necrotic energy toward the horror in the distance. The creature's only response is to charge down the slope. With any alternates out of sight, the terrifying being is bearing down quickly.
"What is that thing??" Norry shouts from behind you.
OOC: There are no more alternates on the slope. Aradurk is halfway up the rope. The Horror is 40 feet away.
Killian grabs hold of the rope, but glances behind her at Norry, and lets go. "Up the rope!" she says to him. "Go!" Exchanging a glance with Gruun, she turns to face the approaching horror, once again reaching out and twisting.
Chill Touch again: 14 to hit, for 16 necrotic damage.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Norry looks on in terror, remaining still as the horror quickly approaches. Aradurk crests the ledge, rejoining Hox and leaving the rope empty, but the young man below seems unable to will himself forward.
The horror reaches Killian and Gruun, raising its mass of vicious tentacles above the pair - the very same vehicles of your vivid deaths only a short time ago. Just as suddenly, Norry begins to scream, clutching his temples and falling the ground. The air shimmers, wavering until everything around you is replaced.
No longer are you on a mountainside. Instead, the four of you sit upon a placid beach of an island. A towering mountain behind you looks familiar, though bereft of the massive statue at its peak, and the waters surrounding you are bright and blue. The beaming sun and squawking gulls above complete the relaxing scene.
Unlike previous occasions in the islands where you have found yourself seemingly transported, you still bear the wounds of the hectic battle a brief moment ago. The air begins to shimmer hazily, building ever so slowly around you.
Killian sighs, and then closes her eyes to concentrate. She will use Divine Sense to see if there is anything of note within 60' or if they can relax a little.

Killian does not sense the presence of any celestials, fiends, or undead within the beach. The surrounding air continues to grow hazy under the basking warmth of the sun.
"It seems as if we've lost our guide. Again. Can anyone see Wes? I felt like we were finally in the right place and time. If we can get back there we might be able to get back then. I can barely understand what I'm saying now..."
This haze definitely does not strike any of you as natural. It reminds you of the shimmering, wavering air that you have seen at times throughout the islands that typically indicates that time and space are about to shift, but this time is building up very slowly.
Aradurk does not see any other signs of another presence on the beach, or any tracks that indicate someone may have been here recently. Visibility is fading as the shimmering air continues to grow. The peaceful sky ripples like a blanket blowing in the wind, and the blue waters grow grey through the shimmering haze.
"Gird yourselves," Killian warns, pulling her shield straps tighter. She rises on the balls of her feet, getting ready to Dodge should anything attack.

After the brief moment of respite, your surroundings shift once again to the mountain slope, with Aradurk and Hox atop a ledge halfway to the peak, and Gruun and Killian below, at the bottom of the rope. Shothotugg still looms high above, the entirety of the sky filled with its writhing tentacles, each the size of a ship. However, the horror is gone. Norry stands behind Gruun and Killian, heaving. "It's...Denorian..." he says between heavy breaths. "He...the other version of him, it's...here, somewhere. I don't know exactly what I just did, but the closer we get, the more of his knowledge comes back to me."
OOC: The slope continues upward to meet at the peak. If they climb and you and Gruun continue up the slope, you would both reach the peak, and the path looks clear at the moment.

Hox takes out his rope and ties it to the piton he set. Hox waves down to Aradurk and throws down the rope. "Climb, climb!" He gives a shout
Hearing Hox and seeing the rope, Aradurk will grab a hold and start climbing up the face of the rock.

(Hox can give it a shot, got a +1 for Nature anyway.)

Can we continue up the mountain without climbing the rope? Meet them on their ledge? (I’m a little shaky on the layout of the terrain.)
