Gruun will charge up behind Evil Denorian and slam his Greataxe into him. Attack: 18 Damage: 16 Before attempting to wrap his arm around his neck and mouth to prevent speech. Grapple: 26
Paralyzing Touch vs. Gruun: 30Damage: 7 Gruun CON Save (+Aura of Protection): 29 Ray of Frost vs. Aradurk (Disadvantage-Range): 24
Evil Denorian CON Save: 18Damage: 9.5
The evil aspect of denorian growls as Aradurk's rapier does what his bow could not, and Killian. Though the mage attempts to spring a magical shield around himself, the rapier passes through that energy and whatever protection the wizard had from the half-orc's arrows. Aradurk holds him still as Denorian fires a ray of frost point blank, missing by inches. His protective shield glows, protecting him from harm as Gruun joins the fray with his greataxe, but the bugbear grabs an arm and grapples him as well, feeling the chill of cold energy flowing into him from the mage.
Denorian cackles as he shrugs off Killian's attempt to further hold him magically and shouts, "Yes, hold me still so your little Norry can meld with me. You are futile. Behold true power. ᛥ!"
Norry, in the midst of moving in, suddenly dies at the arcane command - there is no fanfare, nor warning. The younger aspect of Denorian, standing one moment, falls to the ground in the next, his eyes glassy and lifeless.
Time seems to stand still as a familiar tinkling music sounds across the mountaintop. A heartbeat booms. The briefest image of a silver dragon echoes into the air as it shimmers. Then, as if the moment had never existed, Norry stands with eyes that burn with cold power. A blast of air erupts from his hands, shaping around Hox as the kobold takes the second Staff of the Magi from Killian's hands, shaping around Aradurk and Gruun as they wrestle with the evil wizard.
The evil aspect of Denorian takes the effect of the blast, his look of frustration covered suddenly in frost and ice. It quickly fades as he laughs again, "You're not the only one of us with the blood of a silver dragon, boy!"
Norry shouts, "Finish him! We need to end this!"
Hox places the second staff in a slot, leaving two filled by staffs while five other empty slots surround the crystal plinth.
Round 2 Order: Evil Denorian Norry Players <=====
Placement: Aradurk, Gruun and Killian are engaged in melee combat with the Evil Denorian. All combatants are within movement range of one another. Two Staffs of the Magi has been placed within the shrine.
Health: Evil Denorian is wounded.
Hox is grievously wounded. Aradurk is wounded. Killian is wounded. Gruun is lightly wounded.
Hox takes a gulp, seeing Aradurk's arrows fail him, but melee can harm Denorian. He takes his dagger out. Despite his instincts telling him to run away and nurse his wounds, he cannot see a way out. Left with only the option to go forward. He charges into the fray.
Killian draws her longsword and wades in to the fight, swinging at the evil wizard.
Attack: Killian will swing her longsword twice at Denorian.
Attack 1: 26 to hit, for 14 magical slashing + a 2nd level slot for Divine Smite: 19 radiant dmg
Attack 2: 12 to hit, for 13 magical slashing + a 2nd level slot for Divine Smite: 17 radiant dmg
Savage Attacker: if one of those damage totals is less than this, please use this (and account for crits?): 13
Divine Smite: Only expended on a hit
Reaction: Killian will blow a(nother?) 4th level slot on Hellish Rebuke if/when she is hit by Denorian. 36 fire damage, or half on a Dex Save vs DC 16.
Note: I'm not sure if Killian's Hellish Rebuke from the two rounds ago fired off (in #1303 from when she got hit by the Ray of Frost)... I didn't see it explicitly, but it might have happened. Just wanted to be sure the attack/spell slot use were accounted for since this looks like it is going to be something of a fight of attrition.
OOC: Whoops, the last hellish rebuke was taken into account, it just looks like I cut off the sentence where I described it for some reason. Side effect of my posting at 1:43 AM I suppose...
Giving some more time for Aradurk and Gruun to post their actions for Round 2 since I'd prefer not to bot them here.

Hox stabs one, then a second dagger into the back of the evil Denorian's kneecap, but the wizard laughs again as the weapons are stopped by some unseen barrier. A glowing golden barrier flashes as Gruun's greataxe is stopped in similar fashion, but Killian's sword, flowing with radiant energy, cuts through the arcane shield and through the flesh beneath.
Bearing a new massive wound from the oathbreaker, Denorian screams, an otherworldly sound that shatters the air in front of him, causing a familiar shimmering sensation to appear. Aradurk clamps a set of manacles onto the mage's arms as he wrenches them together, but the arms fall with the rest of the wizard when his skull suddenly splits open. Shedding its human form like a carcass, a being made of writhing tentacles slides out, Shothotugg incarnate, dripping gore from its limbs as it thrashes out. Two of the tentacles wrap around Aradurk and Gruun while another wrestles with Killian's shield, sending painful shockwaves through their minds as another pair of tentacles reaches out for Gruun's head. The limbs begin to burrow in, but raising his greataxe once more, the powerful barbarian rends through the creature, splitting it in two vertically.
Norry quickly approaches the twitching mass and takes a look around, his gaze unfaltering and confident as he gauges the party; wounded and beleaguered. "I don't know what will happen when I do this...but I thank you, as Norry and as Denorian. I know not if I will remember this after I merge with this...thing, but...there are many who call themselves heroes who could not do what you have done. I hope that Denorian holds the answers that you seek. I hope that with him, you can save this place."
"After everything I have seen, it seems that surprise would be an out-of-reach novelty, like a child reaching for cookies hidden on a top-shelf. But do you sincerely plan to merge with this creature now? Madness - this is madness", Aradurk says exhaustedly to Norry.

Killian, still in the throes of battle madness, barely reacts to Norry, her eyes wild as she tries to focus. She shakes her head, her ragged, shorn hair sprinkling sweat, blood, and ichor. As her eyes clear, and she listens to Aradurk, she smiles grimly. "This is all madness, I begin to doubt my own reality."She pokes Gruun with a finger, almost playfully. The swirls of shadow that accompany her relax, pooling on the ground around her feet. But she does not sheath her sword.

Gruun bellows are the writhing mass still to enraged to comprehend the word that float past his head. Noticing everyone's movement has stopped he too lowers his axe but keeps it at the ready jumping at the poke. His rage subsides to hear Aradurk and Killian. "You if join with this - thing- won't we have to then kill you? Why not destroy this thing and be done?"
He nods to Gruun, "It is possible...but I do not think so. It will not be me, if you do. Truly, there is no me." A sullen look crosses his face as he glances upward. "My existence is as broken as time itself on these islands. I exist because of Denorian's desperation in his final moments, and nothing more, the same as this...thing. Both parts of Denorian, good and evil, light and dark. For us, nothing matters more than this moment. This is what we were created for. It sought to end me before I could merge with it. I could never have done it alone," he says.
"But before I do this...I suppose one stab wouldn't hurt," he answers Hox, motioning to the corpse, still twitching.
Norry kneels down, placing a hand upon the squirming tentacles. His mouth opens in a painless scream as a glow emanates from within him, beaming into the overcast sky like a beacon. The air around you shimmers, the glowing scene before you wavering until Norry and the evil aspect of Denorian are gone.
Standing in their place is another man in robes, the spitting image of Norry, older by at least twenty years. He pitches over and vomits, gasping for breath.
"That was...an experience..." he mumbles, finally looking up to the party with a scowl. He stands shakily to his feet, then cackles.
"So Glendale and Roccar could not even be bothered to do the dirty work themselves. Not only could they not stomach what needed to be done, they stayed behind while their puppets went forth to save the world," he rants. He takes an exaggerated bow and says, "Nevertheless...I thought it would take a miracle for someone to repair me. I don't know what it took for you to get here, but it could not have been pleasant. Yet here we are, in front of the Shrine of the Magi, while it is still intact."
He stares up at the clouds and gazes around the hand of the massive statue upon which you stand. "Yes, this has to be the very moment, otherwise I could not be here. As you can probably tell, my idea did not work. I had only five Staffs of the Magi, and I lacked the crystal catalyst in the center. Rather than repel Shothotugg I simply shattered. Are you here to help, or did Glendale send you to rub it in my face that I should have waited?" he asks. As he speaks, there is suddenly a painfully loud sound, like the air itself is being torn. The clouds above you begin to darken, swirling ominously.
Hox tilts his head, confused by the two names, but answers, "Clan man sent Hox and others. To...get sticks with rocks and find magic man." He says with his own understanding of their quest.
Hox nods, "Found two, more on other lands and magic man has some. Was looking for more but magic man did bad magic. Had to stop him...are you magic man?" He asks.
"For all your preparations you ran off alone and failed. We are here to fix your failing, I have a staff with a broken crystal, whatever help it may be."
Gruun will dig out the broken and staff and hand it to Denorian. The whole time he keeps a firm grip on his Greataxe.
