"A couple of us should go scout the well," Chikra adds. "I'd like to see if the guardian is guarding the well from outside it, or if it's inside the well. I expect it's not inside the well, so we might be able to find a way to distract it while someone goes in the well. Presumably me, I'm the best in tight spaces, and can probably withstand the most damage if we need to brute force it."
"From what I understand," Xurxos says, "a sidereal servitor will hang in the ether until it's purpose is triggered. At that point it will materialize, and common weapons can be used against it." Xurxos mind seems to be drifting again. "Off in the ether... much like my dear aunt. Bless her soul."
(My understanding is that you need to copy a spell into your own script to learn it and cast it.)
For each level of the spell, the process takes 2 hours and costs 50 gp. The cost represents material components you expend as you experiment with the spell to master it, as well as the fine inks you need to record it. Once you have spent this time and money, you can prepare the spell just like your other spells.
Scouting the well you find that the old stone well that once served the temple has now all but gone dry, its bottom filled with decades of mud and debris. From above you can't see anything out of the ordinary.
"Well," Hallanann says, rubbing his chin in analytic thought, "I could learn this ritual. It would take me some time; but the main obstacle is that I don't have the material goods to learn it. I would need another 51 gold work of items to actually Practice and learn this ritual."
"Furthermore," he continues, "There's one more piece of good news/bad news: the good news is that the phrase of unbinding is found right here in the ritual, so I probably wouldn't even need to learn the entire spell in order to unbind the creature. The bad news is that it says we have to say it in a language the servitor understands; but it doesn't tell us what that language is."
He trails off in thought again, before saying, "Now, I do speak Celestial, Draconic, Elvish, and Sylvan besides Common. I wonder if we could be fortunate enough that the servitor would understand one of those."
”And why do you say that? The servitor would probably speak one of the languages of the caster speaks, or anyone who summons one would be unable to dispel it” Krusk says to Vor.
Turning to Hallanann, Krusk gets out a pouch. In it he puts 51 gp into it. Giving it to him, Krusk says, “I’ve been saving this for quite some time. I have yet to use it, so you may use it to help us on our way.”
"I only speak this language and elvish." Lia says with a shrug. She moves over to look into the well a bit. Then she moves back to the wizard. "So, I do not believe the ritual is actually needed, since it will not aid in this effort." She says at last. "If you can tell the words of unbinding, and we try it in any languages we know, that will be our only real shot of doing this without combat." She shrugs. "Otherwise we do this the hard way."
"I agree," Hallanann responds. He takes the gold from Krusk and says, "Thank you for this. I'll only use it if the words of unbinding don't work in the languages I know. If it does work, I'll give this back to you."
"Bes it not that th' servit'r kanna move more'n so far from th' place needin' its protection?" Vor asks. "Make it appear 'n scoot back a bit out o' its range n' then tell it t' leave, fall apart 'r what ever th' words 'r s'pposed t' make it do?"

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
"We'll need to go to where the servitor is, trigger it from whatever ethereal realm it's waiting in, and then speak the words of unbinding so as to release the creature back to its native realm."
Chikra reports back that the well appears to have been abandoned. "Either the guardian has been defeated, or was never there, or it will only appear if we enter the well or try and retrieve the key. I'd as soon try sooner than later. I'm not keen on picking up any mutations, and any delay is putting us further behind Maghiel as well."
You head to the well and start to work on the ritual. After three hours of chanting, concentration, and grandiose gestures, Hallanann has reached a point in the ritual where he is ready to speak commands to the Sidereal Servitor. Hallanann must remain concentrating on the spell, and it is now up to Chikra, Krusk, Lia, Newa, and Vor to coax the beast from his lair. The well has long been abandon, but there are several large rocks near the top of the well. Thous with dark vision can see that about 20 feet down the well is an unnatural structure on one side.
Krusk goes up to the well, takes out an Pot, Iron and a Hammer and starts banging on it REALLY loudly, trying to get the attention of the guardian. (What kind of roll is that? Annoyance?)
Vor will move to the SW side of the well and keep an eye on the opening. If anything stirs he’ll warn the others. “Tidy little place it’s got ‘ere, no bes easy fer the like o’ us t’ chase it inta th’ open if it dinna wanna coom.”

This is a 2nd level spell, so 4 hours and 100gp.

“I thought the words of unbending only worked on the servitor. How can they help us if we don’t use it?” Krusk asks.

(I'm going to assume that you guys are going with CelticSurfers plan unless I hear otherwise.)
Seems good to me.
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Seems fine. We assume the servitor is at the well, guarding the key, right?

Chikra pulls our her climber's kit. "I can always go down there and drag the thing out, if you like. Grapple it and then the rest of you pull us out."
