IMPORTANT: I have opened this thread up again for recruitment as of May 17. Read this first post and then check out my latest post for more details.
As someone with increasing free time due to world events, I'd like to offer to run a campaign for some of you! I'm a relatively inexperienced DM though, so don't expect anything amazing!
The adventure I'd like to run is Reavers of Harkenwold, a starting adventure for 4th edition, although we will be playing in 5th edition. The adventurers start at 2nd level and will advance to 4th or 5th level. If you've played or read this adventure (in any edition) before, this is not the campaign for you. Reavers of Harkenwold pits the heroes against the Iron Circle, a company of cruel mercenaries that has seized control of the small land of Harkenwold. In this adventure, the heroes become daring rebels and lead the folk of Harkenwold against their oppressors. The adventure is (loosely) set in the Nentir Vale. Harkenwold is an isolated barony, a collection of hamlets and steadings scattered over fifty miles of the upper White River valley. The two largest villages are Harken Town, with about 280 people, and Albridge, with about 180. Your character could be from Harkenwold, or be going there for the first time. Here are some possible adventure hooks you can use to inform your character's backstory.
Agents Provocateur: You are native to the town of Fallcrest, a few days west of Harkenwold. Lord Warden Markelhay, ruler of Fallcrest, hears that mercenaries have taken over Harkenwold and decides to send Baron Stockmer help. He summoned you to his keep and commissioned you to go to Harkenwold, work to defeat the Iron Circle, and restore the baron to his throne. Bandit Hunting: You are on the trail of a gang of marauders who attacked a farmhouse a few days’ travel away. The trail ends in northern Harkenwold, where it becomes clear that these bandits are not merely isolated raiders. Interrupted Pilgrimage: You are returning from a pilgrimage to a temple in the town of Fallcrest. Following the King’s Road east after your visit, you pass into Harkenwold. Trouble at Home: You are native to Harkenwold. While visiting the dwarven town of Hammerfast, several days’ journey to the north, you learn from traveling merchants that brigands have taken over Harkenwold. You must hurry back home if you plan to do something about it.
You should be able to post at least once daily. All official D&D content is allowed, as is UA (unless I have a specific problem with it). If you want to include homebrew, PM me the details and we will figure out if it works. Stats will be rolled after I've chosen the players. We will start on Tuesday, so get your applications in before then.
If this sounds interesting, apply below!
Application Format
Name: Your character's name Class, Race, Background: Mechanical information about your character. Include subclass if it's chosen at or before 2nd level. Quote: Something your character might say that captures their way of speaking and expressing themself. Treasured Possession: An object your character carries that has particular significance to them. Backstory: This should be 2-5 sentences long and give me an idea of what your character's done with their life so far, how it changed them, and why they've become an adventurer.
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them!
Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
Quote: Knowledge is power, and knowledge is gained by experimenting.
Prized possession: His father's tinker's tools.
Backstory: Since he was a child, Brocc was always curious about everything. Absorbing knowledge like a sponge, especially about his father's tinkering trade. After having learned everything his father could teach him, Brocc decided to travel the world for new things to learn.
Ability scores will be rolled AFTER I choose the players. No need to generate stats yet.

Quote: "A shadow's the most honest thing there is - it only shows you what stands in the light."
Treasured Possession: An obsidian torc passed down to the "gifted" children of the Umberside Lightfoots.
Backstory: Ursula was born "touched by dusk" as her Great Great Auntie Eugenice Umberside always liked to say. Every hundredth or so Umberside child was born this way, skin marked by contrasting colours. The vitiglio is an inheritance, the dusk-touched children are told, from the first Umbersides to cross into the Faded Realm from the Feywild. It is a reminder of their heritage, and a link to the ancient agreements forged in that timeless place. For Ursula, or "Dapple" as she prefers to go by, those are powerful stories, but stories she was determined to learn the truth of. So, setting off these past three years chasing the shadows of rumours, Dapple seeks out ancient standing stones, hidden groves, and those other places where the long memory of the Feywild casts a reminder into the Material Plane. She learns as he goes, manifesting the gift of shadow sorcery given to all the dusk-touched Umberside, honing its energies in the quiet play of light in twlit places.
Emerging from one such visitation in a dark grove temple near Fallcrest, Dapple was on her way back home when she crosses into Harkenwold, meditating on her newfound powers...
Name: Davner Deephollow Class, Race, Background: Lightfoot Halfling Bard Quote: “Yes! Yes, that’ll be no problem. You’ll have your items back as good as new. That’s the Deephollow guarantee!” Treasured Possession: A makeshift bagpipe made of a smithing bellow, his grandfather made for him. Backstory: (Trouble at home) The Deephollow farm has taken on the responsibility of local smithy for the pass few generations. Making and fixing common farming equipment and the occasional sword. Never taking too much to the family business Davner was more hooked on singing songs than fixing tongs. His grandfather fashioned him a bagpipe to play music. Taking on more of the business and trade of job rather than the labor, he is the one to run the front desk and make deliveries to neighboring towns.
(Im apllying the same character I tried in a different setting, 'cause I like her and haven't had the opportunity to play her yet. Hope it's alright)
Name: Quyst Class, Race, Background: Warlock, Tiefling, Criminal Quote: "Oh, there comes the rich bastard with OUR gold...time for action." Treasured Possession: A scapular, gifted to her by the priest who run the orphanage where she grew up Backstory: In short: Robin-hood style girl. Orphan, mistreated by being a tiefling among bigots, she keeps a dark-roguish facade, but she's really a sweet, kind person, trying to keep people from suffering as she did. That's how she got to Harkenwold ("Bandit hunting" hook)
Longer backstory:
Quyst had a rough life growing up as a Teifling in a small Human village. She doesn't know a thing about her father, and her mom died when she was a teenager. People on that small village would treat her as mischievous, as a thief, or things of the sort, just for her race and looks; eventually, she decided to act up to the expectations. However, deep down she is a good person - she just doesn't allow people to notice it. She steals in Robin Hood style, from rich snob people, distributing among the poor.
Even though she tries to do good at all times, she had one dark episode on her story. The greed for power made her make a pact with a Fiend, and like most of the times she was tricked in the deal. She killed a young man in the forest, not knowing what she was doing. That was more than enough to make her run away from the village an start an adventurer's life. It also made her even more inclined to do good and charity at all costs.
Name: Fionn Class, Race, Background: Cleric, Human, Acolyte (of Tymora Trickery Domain) Quote: by the goddess where is th' ale Treasured Possession: an old metal flask "borrowed" from a church elder Backstory: raised by the church after found as sole survivor in a village of the west coast Fionn has been taught the ways of the priesthood....however the higher ups frowned on his following of the tricksy side of the goddess (and the drinking) so after an unfortunate (but funny) prank he set off to follow where his goddess leads
his hook would be :-Interrupted Pilgrimage: You are returning from a pilgrimage to a temple in the town of Fallcrest. Following the King’s Road east after your visit, you pass into Harkenwold.
**character is already rolled up would just have to adjust to 2nd level
Name: Bram Moltenheim Class, Race, Background: Variant Human Fighter, Archery Fighting Style Quote: "Show me what you're made of, ugly! ... You know, actually, just stand right there and stay still. I'll help myself!" Treasured Possession: His hand crossbow, passed down for generations among his family of bounty-hunters. Being the youngest, he couldn't get ahold of the heavy crossbows, or even the light ones, but his brothers did allow him to take the "rinky-dink" one. He's going to prove to them all that size doesn't matter. Backstory: The Moltenheim family is well known for being reliable mercenaries in times of need. And right now, Harkenwold finds itself in great need, as the marauding bandits grow bolder with each passing day. Bram, just barely old enough to begin a life of adventuring, has stepped up to answer the desperate farmers' commission to deal with this problem. He's inexperienced and still green behind the ears, but very eager to prove himself to his father, just as his older brothers once did. Said Moltenheim patriarch is also eagerly awaiting this moment, and watches and waits in the wings for Bram to prove that he's finally worthy to carry on the family reputation.
Class, Race, Background: Barbarian Goliath with Folk Hero background
Quote: ”You’re not welcome here...”
Treasured Possession: A bear figure made by Paavu, his best friend from his tribe
Backstory: Like any mountainborn goliath, Xobar valued competition over almost everything. His accomplishments, assisted by his ambition, sparked a rivalry between him and Paavu. As the prize of one such contest he lost, he carved a wooden bear totem for Paavu. One fateful day, when he and Paavu left to hunt for food, Paavu broke through ice with his weight, falling into freezing water and unable to resurface. Xobar attempted to break through the ice without falling through, but no matter how many times he punched, he could not crack it. He returned to his tribe, with shame filling Paavu’s place in his heart. They did not take him back, believing him to be a failure. He was cast out and only after 2 years did he find himself as a local hero to the people of Dardun.
When Xobar heard news about the Iron Circle’s latest atrocities, he decided he had to stop them before they could harm his new “tribe” or he would die trying. And that’s where you get to pick it up.

Treasured Possession: A seemingly meaningless and nondescript navy patch of cloth tied around his right wrist, a memory of one of his worst mistakes.
Background: Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and no worries at all in the world, Marius was the youngest of 7 power hungry siblings clawing at each other for the scraps of his fathers power. Marius was simply happy enjoying his privilege, as he was self aware enough to know that as he lay in fine silks serfs on his family’s land starved. Life would go until Marius’ father, Lord Gílle LeDenonay, passed away when Marius was 17. What followed was a bloody war between family, assassins and bandits sent to kill brother and sister. It was only because of his eldest brother’s belief that Marius was too useless to ever be a threat that he was not killed. He was then sold into slavery, now forced to work in the mines of a cruel but business savvy goblin entrepreneur for years on end. It was here, taught by the prisoners around him, where Marius learned discipline, instinct, and how to be man. Though it was also here where he gained an addiction to alcohol, but it seems to be helping him with his unconventional fighting style composed of all types of styles of martial combat (all underhanded moves though because he was taught by prisoners).
He has recently escaped the mine and was wandering (or stumbling) through the countryside before catching wind of a group of marauders who'd attacked a farmhouse not far from him. Seeing this as the next step of his destiny, Marius has decided to follow the winds of fate and pursue the bandits. (BANDIT HUNTIN)
Name: Tafod Haearn Class, Race, Background: Barbarian, Mountain Dwarf, Having nothing better to do at the moment, Tafod is engaged in hunting bandits for the reward. Quote: “What d’ ye mean, ‘Best ale in town’? This dragon urine ain’t fit t’ tan rat hide!” Treasured Possession: The shrunken head of an orc chieftain Tafod killed himself during an orc raid on his cavern home when he was a young lad of 40. Backstory: Tafod's berserk raging didn't begin to show until he was in his 80's, very sporadic in occurrence even now, still, when it unexpectedly happens, someone always got hurt. But it got so bad he was banished lest he end up killing a clan member. So, with a fierce scowl at those he felt treated him most unfairly, he left his cavern home with a rather light step and, secretly, an even lighter heart, for now he was free of the stodgy old rules that he felt tied him down. In reality he was just to independent of a cuss to live in a strict, organized group of traditionalist. Now he is in northern Harkenwold, standing next to a 'bandit' corpse and realizing that there is something more going on than just banditry.

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Name: Kiki Braveheart. Class, Race, Background: Barbarian, Kenku, Clan Crafter Quote: "ITS TIME TO MOTHER*SQUAWK*ING WRECK SHIT" Treasured Possession: A necklace with a twisted piece of scrap metal given to her by Grizwald. Backstory: Kiki was found as a tiny little chick by a dwarven man named Grizwald Braveheart. Along with his daughter, Elwin, he took her in and raised her as his own. Grizwald was a blacksmith in the town of Hammerfast and taught Kiki two key skills. How to make a weapon and how to use a weapon. Elwin, not being able to stand her fathers incompetence when it came to raising a child, taught Kiki everything else. A few days ago, Elwin headed off to Harkenwold to make a delivery but upon hearing the troubles the town has been having, Kiki decided to leave home and find Elwin.
Name: Warfiz Pebbletoe Class, Race, Background: Rogue/Cleric (Trickery); Deep Gnome; Sage Quote: "What do you mean it's yours? Clearly it's mine, it's in my possession after all" Treasured Possession: A necklace made of an irregular piece of obsidian from his homeland. Backstory: Always curious and having exhausted all avenues of arcane research in his homeland, Fiz has ventured to the surface in search of greater knowledge. His means of acquiring this arcane literature can sometimes be seen as dubious. Shadows and illusions come as a second nature to the inquisitive gnome. Having worn out his welcome in Fallcrest, but now a little wiser, he pauses in the town of Albridge to lay low for a while. And perhaps see about furthering his scope of knowledge.
Treasured Possessions: a pouch containing a piece of every foul and holy being he successfully hunted down. Contains feathers, tusks and much more.
Backstory: Roaming from city to city and doing dirty work was the only option for Zef after his tribe unceremoniously exiled him for accidentally piercing the wing of the tribe leader’s son in a sparring match. He took up every job that suited his skill and that didn’t. Every bit of coin he could earn, he took. And as time passed he got better, eh took some tips from weathered mercenaries, and even got a taste for bounty hunting. Alas, time is a flat circle, and a group of mercenaries that held the most power in the city he was located in decided to judge Zef for stealing their contracts and not returning debt, neither of which actually happened. Their judgement, however, was cut short upon their discovery of an empty room, where Zef was once staying. He was already on his way to a kore rural area, to test his luck again, ever hopeful that some time Lady Luck must smile upon him.
The hook is obviously bounty hunting. As a note, if this is going to be a fast paced campaign, I probably would not be able to keep up with it, so a post a in a day or two is what I usually do, or a 2-3 short posts in a day.
Whether it's with me or with someone else, I hope you all have fun adventuring!

Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
We've had two players drop out of this campaign, so I'm looking for a couple replacements. If you previously applied to this campaign and didn't get in, feel free to apply again with the same or a different character. Everyone else is also welcome to apply! Our current party consists of a barbarian, a warlock and a ranged fighter. Most of the main party roles are filled, so you can choose any class. It might be good to have a character that has some kind of healing.
The party has dealt with some threats to Harkenwold. They have had several encounters with the Iron Circle and have met the leader of the resistance in Albridge. The party is currently 3rd level.
If you want to see how the game's been going, here's the link to the main thread:

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Name: Kiki Braveheart.
Class, Race, Background: Barbarian, Kenku, Clan Crafter
Quote: "ITS TIME TO MOTHER*SQUAWK*ING WRECK SHIT"
Treasured Possession: A necklace with a twisted piece of scrap metal given to her by Grizwald.
Name: Warfiz Pebbletoe
Class, Race, Background: Rogue/Cleric (Trickery); Deep Gnome; Sage
Quote: "What do you mean it's yours? Clearly it's mine, it's in my possession after all"
Treasured Possession: A necklace made of an irregular piece of obsidian from his homeland.
Name: Zef Serithis
Class, Race, Background: Paladin, Aarackocra (vulture), Urban Bounty Hunter
Quote: “**** off, this is my contract”
A PM has been sent to the players I've chosen.
Whether it's with me or with someone else, I hope you all have fun adventuring!

RE-RECRUITING
Hello everyone!

I look forward to seeing your applications!
