Onyx stopped as his hand grabbed the doorknob of his room. He'd really wanted to contribute to the group, but despite the power his patron lent him, he didn't think pure magical force would be enough to resolve this. He decided to fall back onto what he was good at as a scholar: knowledge.
He opened the door, then sat cross-legged in the doorway, hands on his knees. His eyes suddenly began to glow brightly with an eerily deep purple light.
"Okay Lannel, let's do this," he communicated to his familiar.
At his telepathic bidding, the owl flew out the door and began flying around the hallway. Onyx viewed everything as Lannel saw it, including with his ability to see in pitch darkness. Lannel searched, occasionally directed by his master, trying to find the entrance to "the highest room of the tallest tower."
(( Onyx is trying to discretely find the way to get to the tarrasque, mainly for recon. If/when he finds it, if there's anyway to get a good view of the interior--outdoor window, lack of roof, etc.--he'll try to direct Lannel to do so in the hopes of observing the creature without disturbing it. Using a little trig, even if it's a good 7 stories above and up to 70 feet in a given direction, Lannel should still be in telepathic range. Here are a few rolls if you need them, all using Onyx's stats:
Throm thinks to himself, "Damn, Galerius. Can't find enough enemies?" He smoothly and non-chalantly moves to a position with a clear shot to both/either the mimic or Galerius. Although not drawn, he prepares an attack action, figuring that in a split second the situation is going to go South.
Galerius decided that he had had enough fighting for now and went back up to his room. He went to his room and put a do not disturb sign on the doorknob. With that done, Galerius went to his bed and wonked out.
Quin saw Galerius trying to wrestle with the piano. She thought he might be a little crazy. He was talking to it and acting like it had rolled dice and everything. She quietly slipped past him in case whatever was ailing him was contagious. She waited patiently for Bentley.
She had had an inspiration that she thought would work but it would have to be carefully planned.

Life gives you lemons, make lemonade, life gives you a sword? You make corpses of your enemies, sorcery is a good sword life has given you. (Stolen from friend)
Galerius awoke and went downstairs. He decided he had enough with fighting the piano and bribe it instead. He grabbed a random kenku and held it out to the mimic.
"Say, Mimic, is this sacrifice enough for you to divulge information to me?"
(Wondering if we’re going to see a returning cameo of gnolls, goblins and bugbear chief ...)
(I am getting some déjà vu...)
Lia gets up, rested as she'll ever be, despite the luxury of her room, and heads down stairs to greet the others. Witnessing the scene with the throwing of the piano, she cautiously walks over to Galerius, placing a hand gently on his shoulder. "I don't think that'll be necessary, friend."
Hatch ordered a room from Bentley. If he didn't have to pay up until he left, maybe he could avoid paying the new outrageous rate all together. And if not, he had enough for one night, and didn't intend to stay for another, one way or another he would make a tarrasque fly.
He slept, a deep and restful sleep, but not without nightmares. Still he slept long enough, and when he awoke he bathed and dressed and headed down.
He went up to Willagee. "Look, I haven't said a word about my past since I got here...two or three days ago maybe? Easy to lose track of time here. Not that you would know or remember because every time we crack a part of this curse you change. I don't even know if you are real, or if the real Willagee is still in his quaint little tavern wondering where all his patrons are. And I am not going to get into it all now because people usually freak when I tell them that I was raised by a dracolich, but I was raised by a dracolich. Frankly that's enough horror for anyone for several lifetimes, so putting up with a guy burning himself to death, getting bit by a vampire, and putting up with a demon and then a devil is really, really pushing my already loose grip of sanity here. So you are going to tell us everything you know about the tarrasque up top, about the tower it is in, and who all else is staying here beyond me and the rest of us getting sick of this curse. Because I believe you in all your versions to be a decent man who doesn't want our sanity or blood on your conscience. So spill."
((OOC I just read about a lockdown in Melbourne, Lia. Hope you and yours are coping. I was exposed and am waiting to hear results. Even then I’m not sure we weren’t tested too early. I will be glad when a vaccine is found. Melbourne is such a beautiful place.))

(Thanks, I really appreciate it. We're doing alright, but we had a bit of a scare when we found out my brother could have been exposed. Luckily he tested negative, so we're all good, and I hope you get the same result. I'll certainly be glad for a vaccine too.)
Quin, Lia and Throm watch on as Galerius returns to play with the piano some more. Bentley once again pulls out the wand, but puts it away again unused when the dragonborn seems to be calming down. I am no wizard, madam. However I find some of our more rambunctious visitors require dulcifying, and this wand is a convenient tool for such. As for your inquiry, yes we do have a small library here. I will direct you to its location, and you may avail yourself of the amenity. If you are interested in the tarrasque, I believe there is one volume there that briefly treats the subject.
(Thanks Jfw6369. I'm looking forward to the finale now, so at this point I'm more likely to simply ignore any distractions anyway.)
Willagee seems rather dumbfounded at Hatch's verbal diarrhoea, and takes a moment to respond. Er, well sir, you certainly seem to have a lot on your mind. I'd be happy to help where I can, sir. The - er - the tarrasque... Well none of us really know how it came to be here, but it's been asleep at the top of the central keep, directly above us, for at least a hundred years. The tower is five floors high, and although there are many rooms on the floors in between, none of them are ever occupied, and all the guests stay in rooms throughout the rest of the castle. As for other guests, I think we were empty until just now when all you people arrived. Just myself, the maid and the butler, and the monster upstairs. I can't tell you much more about the monster - it just sleeps. Not the safest place for a hotel I admit, but the monster makes for a wonderful tourist attraction, so we make the most of it and hope for the best.
Onyx watches through his telepathic link as Lannel flies up the central staircase to the second floor, which appears to be an enormous ballroom, but has been unused for some time. From this floor a different staircase hugs the edge of the large room and ascends up the remainder of the tower. The third floor looks to be a series of sitting rooms for entertaining special guests, and features several dusty lounges with large fireplaces. The fourth floor appears to house a single enormous living suite, complete with an opulent bedroom, spacious closets, a washroom, sitting area, and so on.
Finally the staircase ascends to the fifth floor, which is really little more than a rooftop with a tiled pergola roof. This room/balcony would have been exposed to the open air, but the view coming to Onyx through Lannel's vision makes his throat feel like it dropped into his stomach. The entire castle is visible, but appears surrounded by (or floating within) a cocoon of utter blackness. How he can perceive the boundary without any light or color makes his head swim, but there does appear to be some space between the dark boundary and the castle itself, extending no more than two hundred feet above the top of the tower.
Taking up the entirety of the floor is a gigantic creature. It is curled up somewhat, but must measure seventy feet long. It has a vague resemblance to a wingless dragon, but with more bestial features, and a thick horny hide covering its upper side from nose to tail. The fact that it is prostrate suggests that it is asleep, although it makes no noise of breathing and no movement at all, almost appearing dead save for the mild body heat it emits.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Quin is quick to thank Bentley. Hesitantly, she asks him, "If, in an emergency, a guest were to become rambunctious as you put it, what exactly does your want do? I apologize for asking such a personal question but if we discover a guest acting very rambunctiously, I would like to know what kind of action you could take. And again, thank you so much for showing me to the library."
Quin quickly tells Throm and Lia she might possibly have an idea but it would only work if members of the party had certain spells available to them. She asks them to try to fix a meeting place and time with the rest of their party and let her know. She will be in the library.
When she calls to Buck, a raven lands on her shoulder. She asks him to see what he can find out about Willagee and Kardinyia, if they perhaps have any secret weapons or tools. And check for the same among the other guests. Are any of the other guests magic users and that sort of thing. Buck flies off on his mission promising to report back quickly.

Throm also goes to the library. He wants to learn more about this mythical beast. He vaguely remembers bits and pieces told to him by his uncle of a unique beast created by the Primordials to defeat the gods. About it’s complete destruction of, what was it, Starfall? A completely protected Elven kingdom/capitol. From his recollections this was no beast to be fought by mere mortals. Even if his weapons might be useless, perhaps his limited intelligence could help strategize a way to get this beast airborne.
Galerius decided to get his revenge on the mimic. He spewed flames at the vile creature.
The Mimic attempted a DC DEX 13 saving throw: 21
Fire damage to mimic: 8

With a grunt, Galerius picked up the Mimic and threw it across the room. The mimic crashed near the enchanted entrance, taking 9 bludgeoning damage
