Before we leave to head back to town, Gareth-Wyn will take a few minutes to himself on a nearby rocky hill. He looks north with distant eyes, an old greatsword held reverently before him. He squints slightly, as if focusing on a distant voice, then nods. When he returns, you all can easily that thelength of the blade is marked in an intercrossing pattern of two repeated runes. As Gareth-Wyn has not used the blade in combat before, it is hard to say if it always bore such a pattern, or if it had something to do with his moment of reflection on the hilltop.
Before leaving the gnome city, Tex goes back and has a POW wow with the gnome inventors. Tex pours over old diagrams of Fern with them, asking about some of the quirks of gnome design before finalizing what he intends on doing. Tex gets to work in the gnome workshop. He takes his shock gloves apart, scavenging the electro coils, and sets the power source into the core of ferns energy matrix as he begins connecting the limbs back to the main body, he also replaces ferns cracked eye lenses with the formerly enchanted lenses from his goggles of night. After finishing up with his repairs, he sets to work with his smiths tools, reforging the damaged chassis of Fern’s hound-like frame, reinforcing the chest and shoulder area. From the parts that could not be replaced, Tex takes the former eye lenses and is able to reuses them as a flashlight attached to his cloak, and takes the replaced armor plating and sets them as energy tracks along his studded leather armor to be enchanted when needed.
Well, old friend, let’s see if this is gonna work.
Tex will channel his magical energy into his tinker tools before turning the final piece into place. There is a resounding THOOOOOM! As energy courses through the very large mechanical hound. It rises up on its four legs slowly at first, stretching deeply as if it had woken up from a long nap, before panting, smiling and loping over to jump on Tex.
Welcome back old friend. Hey guys? I’d like you to meet my best friend growing up, Fern the steel defender.
Fern is a medium humanoid sized construct in the shape of a (Tibetan) mastiff, heavy steel plates cover its body and it stands atop very powerful legs which hum with energy, it’s eyes seem to rotate and focus as it looks over each of you with discerning eyes, it pants at you, releasing short bursts of exhaust steam. it probably jumps on Iri, since she is definitely the most child like

While Tex is playing with his childhood toy, Lanarial will skulk around the rest of the gnome encampment, practicing his stealth skills, trying to avoid detection and find advantageous positions from which to attack and defend from. He recalls the games he played as a child in the Underdark - a darker version of the overlander's 'hide-and-seek' but with small bows and poison-tipped darts that caused an immediate and excruciating burning sensation all across the body but caused no lasting damage - realizing now how it was training him to be a master hunter, the shadow on a moonless night. Yes, he was trained to be a night-hunter, killing swiftly and unseen. (choosing Assassin archetype...)
This time, when Vi moves a little ways off, she sits down and opens her spellbook, going through the pages of the green-covered tome and scribing a pair of spells she remembers her father using. Now, she though she could manage the power of these spells. She then unsheathes her shortsword and holds it across her lap for a long moment, looking at the Elvish glyph on the pommel for a while before spending a long time cleaning, sharpening, oiling and caring for the blade before returning to camp.
When Tex introduces Fern, Vi gives him a smile and holds a hand out for Fern to sniff. "Hey, Fern."
"A PUPPY!" Iri shouts as Fern tackles her. "Well aren't you the sweetest little thing. Yes you are. Yes you are."
Later that evening when everyone is getting ready for bed, Iri steps out into the moonlight and her entire body lights up with constellations and stars. As she stands outside under the full moon, she hears a voice in her head. It tells her to go, see the world, spread her love, and protect those who can't protect themselves. A crown of seven stars appears over Iri's head and descends onto her head where they solidify into small crystalline stars upon her circlet.
As she goes back inside to sleep, the stars fade off her body and she curls up as close to Fern as she can. As her eyes close an owl flies down and watches beneath the moon.
Dwarven Excavation Quest. - COMPLETE “Dwarf prospectors found ancient dwarven ruins in the mountains southwest of here, and have been working an archaeological dig seeking treasure and relics. They need to be warned that a white dragon has moved into the area. Take the warning to them, then return to Townmaster Harbin Wester to collect a reward of 50 gp.”
Gnomengarde Quest. - COMPLETE “A clan of reclusive rock gnomes resides in a small network of caves in the mountains to the southeast. The gnomes of Gnomengarde are known for their magical inventions, and they might have something with which to defeat the dragon. Get whatever you can from them. If you bring back something useful and don’t want to keep it for yourselves, Townmaster Harbin Wester will pay you 50 gp for it.”
Umbrage Hill Quest. - IN PROGRESS “The local midwife — an acolyte of Chauntea named Adabra Gwynn — lives by herself in a stone windmill on the side of a hill a few miles south of Phandalin. With dragon sightings becoming more common, it’s not safe for her to be alone. Urge Adabra to return to Phandalin. Once she’s safe, visit Townmaster Harbin Wester to claim a reward of 25 gp.”
This part of the adventure is a quick one:
Built on the slope of Umbrage Hill is an old stone windmill surrounded by an iron fence. You can see large barbed quills stuck on various parts of the fence, and windmill. A large winged monster with a spiky tail is trying to knock down the windmill’s front door. A woman appears in a second-floor window, waves at you, and yells, “A little help?!”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tex waves his hat at the woman in the window and Shouts out Don't you worry now Ma'am! We've become quite the expert team at aggressive problem solving! Tex replaces his hat back on his head and leans down to Fern, giving her a quick pat Let's show our friends what we got! Looks to group, Let's mess up this Manticore ARCANA CHECK: 17 Tex will then get out his crossbow, aim and fire his magic bolt directly at it. Attack: 24 Damage: 10
Lanarial sees the creature attacking the windmill and quickly moves out of sight. From his hiding spot, he aims an arrow at the point just under where the wing is attached to the back of the monster, firing it in a smooth action. (Assassinate: You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet, and any hit you score against a creature that is surprised is a critical hit. Rolled attack with advantage - if the manticore was suprised, add this damage: 12)
