(OOC: I think it does, as initiative is essentially a DEX check.)
Round One: Balassar (21) and Wash (17) to go first Five small cloaked figures are next (11) Alton (8) and Cala (7) are third The large cloaked figure (4) is last.
(For PbP, I tend to group initiatives that are close to each other, rather than require strict order. It helps speed up play during combat.)
Balassar and Wash are up, in any order. You see the figures running towards you, and Balassar you have heard and understood what one of them said in draconic. What will you do?
Balassar looks at the one that spoke and just sighs "Don't t'hink they're friends. That one wants no witnesses. Guess we hit first and ask questions later." he just raises his shield as he begins to rush forward at the large figure attempting to knocking the charging figure prone.
OOC:
Using attack action to shove the charging figure and shove him knocking him prone
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wash takes what Balassar says on board and responds "I agree, we should try to subdue, not kill them" then releases the held invisible ball of force (hopefully injuring but not killing one):
You do manage to knock them prone; as you do so, the hood of her cloak is displaced, enough to reveal the face of a goliath woman glaring up at you.
Wash, your blast of force energy goes wide, slamming against the wall of a nearby building and shaking dust loose.
(OOC: Rules-As-Written, only a melee weapon/unarmed attack can do non-lethal damage. If a ranged attack or any spell knocks an enemy to 0 HP, they're either instantly dead or making death saving throws.)
Two of the smaller cloaked figures rush in to Balassar, to protect their larger comrade. They wield ugly daggers, and stab in quick, agitated movements:
Attack: 6 Damage: 6 Attack: 13 Damage: 3
Both miss, and you hear the goliath mutter a curse under her breath. Two more are rushing past, but draw slings. One attacks Balassar:
Attack: 19 Damage: 5
The other fires a rock pellet at the apparent mage who just blasted a wall:
Attack: 5 Damage: 4
Balassar, the rock clinks harmlessly against your shield. Wash, yours hits you on the neck with enough force to make you choke for a moment as your throat seizes up.
The last figure has darted clear past Balassar and reaches Wash, stabbing with its little dagger:
Attack: 16 Damage: 4
It's a vicious, powerful little stab; it would have hurt bad if it had hit you, but you dodge out of the way.
[OOC: Hehe, yep, I knew about the hypocrisy in suggesting we don’t kill them but then attempting to Eldritch Blast one. Wash would have felt bad if one had gone down (and even attempted to stabilise one if he could in time as long as it didn’t risk someone else falling).]
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cala takes a breath, collecting her ki and calming her heart rate. She rushes over to the one that is beside Wash, spinning it up over her head with both hands before swiping with the hilt at the knees of the cloaked figure, aiming to take them off of their feet.
Attack: 8 Damage: 12
She then pulls back a fist and aims a sharp punch at the figure.
Cala, your first attack brings the creature down, its hood knocked aside, and you see it is a little like a tiny dragon, though you do not immediately recognise the species.
As it falls, it knocks its head against the road and is unconscious.
(S5 is unconscious).
Cala can move on if she wishes, without taking an opportunity attack. Her second attack misses, regardless of who she attack I think.
Alton will move up behind the human giving him a slap on the back saying, "Don't worry, I have your back." Going for a mix of being serious with a bad pun. Looking ahead of the human to the rest of their foes, Alton will focus on the three in front of the dragonborn. He pricks the tip of his finger on the rapier and says while flicking droplets of blood in their direction "One minute bounds thy bane or bliss."
Movement: Move up behind Wash Bonus Action: Bardic Inspiration to Wash. Action: Casts Bane (dc 14 charisma save) on the leader and the two smalls next to them.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Also (and this might be a waste), but is it too late for me to ‘heavenly rebuke’ (hellish rebuke for celestial) the one that hit me with a rock pellet as reaction to taking damage?
If no, I understand (I did post between taking damage and remembering I had a reaction spell - I’ll try to make heavenly rebuke my first post after taking damage in future if I want to use it).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The goliath woman stands, glaring at Balassar: Out of my way, fool. She draws a longsword and swings it towards your neck:
Attack: 19 Damage: 10 (minus 2 on the attack roll from Bane.)
It's close, very close to hitting and doing a lot of damage, but Alton, you get a flicker of sensation from your magic, and you know that your spell has managed to deflect this blow.
Cursing, the goliath repositions, moving around Balassar but staying within range.
Round Two: Balassar and Wash Four small dragon-like creatures (one other appears to be dead) Alton and Cala Goliath woman
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[OOC: It is late here, so I’ll post Wash’s turn with the understanding it takes effect after Balassar’s. ]
Wash gestures at Balassar and one of the cloaked figures whilst muttering in celestial, his eyes glow with bright light and radiant light engulfs them both.
[Damn, only one point of damage to Creature 3 IF he fails dex save. I’m not doing great with hitting or doing much damage so far. I also realised when re-reading above posts that Balassar hadn’t taken damage - I misread and thought he had taken 5 already and was concerned he was going to go down. DM: If Wash would have seen that Balassar didn’t get hit, can I take that back and save the Healing Light for when someone else has taken damage? If not, can I redirect it to myself?]
Movement: Wash realises his frailty, so moves his entire 30ft movement past Cala and around the corner, hugging the wall [attempting to get partial cover], but he says as he is going around "I’ll try to keep you lot up, but I’m not so good in close combat. I’ve got no weapons I’m afraid."
Small creature S3 DEX save: 20. The creature seems unaffected by the spell this time.
(OOC: You can take back the healing light on Balassar, but to keep the game moving, let's say Wash either uses on himself or does nothing.)
Balassar, your sword slams into the goliath's cloak, and she has a small shield concealed beneath the folds of the garment. She manages to deflect your strike, and she ignores your words entirely as she looks around, measuring the situation with calculating eyes.
Creatures 2 and 3, facing Belassar, strike again with their daggers.
Attack: 7 Damage: 5 Attack: 12 Damage: 6
They're not having much luck against the heavily armoured dragonborn warrior.
(OOC: I'll apply the Bane if it might make a difference, but please do remind me if I forget.)
The two remaining creatures, 1 and 4, move further down their street, but look back to see why the others have halted. Seeing the roadblock, they also fire their slings at the dragonborn:
Attack: 16 Damage: 4 Attack: 11 Damage: 6
To no effect. The rocks bounce off Balassar's armour with a loud clang, but no damage at all.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alton looks over to Cala, "If we are going to capture anyone, it should be the leader." He will then turn his attention to the leader and yells, "I've seen drunks put up a better fight than you!"
Movement: None Action: Casts Vicious Mockery on the Leader, DC 14 Wisdom save and 3 psychic damage.
