Rigor will move out, looks like Sorore is in a safe space with Fimrold nearby. He moves 5’ NE, 10’ N, 5’ NE through Belmort’s square as difficult terrain, and 5’ E.
Rigor sheathes his dagger as he moves to free his hands. At the end of his move, he wants to use his action to unchain the sewer gate to get it open, now that Feldinor has unlocked it. He is difficult terrain to pass through, but hopes to save the front line from wasting an action!
Fimrold dons his shield and maneuvers into an over-watch position at Murdoch's side, while Rigor surges forward to deal with the rusting sewer gate itself. With a great clattering, the heavy unlocked chain is unwound from the iron bars, the sewer gate creaking loudly as it's wrenched back and forth on its rusted hinges, then settles slightly ajar...
OOC: Good Evening, adventurers, and nicely executed on both Fimrold's and Rigor's part!
OOC: Thanks for the procedural response as well, Fimrold! I now tally four votes in favor of public display of results or information, and one vote in favor of partial display.
OOC: Rigor, thanks for "seizing the initiative" when you realized that you had initiative ahead of my post! You also saved one of the others heading into contact from burning an action to free the sewer gate of that chain - nicely done. Look forward to your thoughts on the procedural question as well, when you get a chance!
As his movement, he will move 30' east and pull his crowbar as part of the movement.
As a non-action, he will drop his sword by the grate.
As his action, he will use the crowbar to attempt to pry up the sewer grate, with advantage: 21, 4.
If successful, he will yell "Alternate route!".
As a bonus action, if he sees anyone with his darkvision (immediate passive scan, not looking for an in depth perception check), he will use his Hexblade's Curse on any enemy he sees.
Yokai’s rush up-slope to the east, his long sword dropped as he brings a crowbar to bear, ends in the half-seen sewer grate embedded in the cobblestone street. From where he stands, now looking down upon his companions, Yokai turns his focus to prying open the grate itself, heavy, rusted, and seated in old iron.
Leveraging the crowbar, the Warlock successfully breaks the rust and pulls the sewer grate to the side, revealing, as he yells, a wet, ten-feet deep shaft into darkness, the gloom dimly lit by the distant torchlight…and a shadowed figure waiting in ambush at the corner of the sewer tunnel below, enveloped in a black cloak, mask, and rags, almost concealed from Yokai’s searching gaze, if not betrayed by the cold gleam from a long, wickedly curved dagger held at the ready.
The shadowed figure turns a hate-filled gaze upwards to the wan light of a cloud-swept day revealing his presence, and is met by Yokai’s own gaze looking down upon him, and the otherworldly utterance of the Warlock’s Hexblade’s Curse…
OOC: Good Evening, adventurers; an excellent abstract approach from Yokai, with a tremendous payoff - the only possible move that could have disrupted the ambush that was planned, and worthy of an Inspiration Point!
OOC: My apologies for the excessive delay in this last stretch, friends - two high-payoff deliverables to Government sponsors and some travel in the mix over the last four days...
OOC: On your procedural question, I’d prefer the public display of info or results. Life’s too crazy for me right now to keep track of many extra private messages, picking what and how to say to my friends, and so on. Also like the complete story, and ok with not acting on what Rigor doesn’t know yet. Thanks for asking.
Sorore moves NE one square and N one square. As she moves, she reaches within the enveloping gray mantle cloak that seems to hover about her with a life of its own, and draws forth a dark shortbow from the right side of her pack. Once in position, Sorore draws an arrow from a slender quiver on her left and settles it upon her bow, prepared to support her companions with archery or spell as she penetrates the shadows with her darkvision.
OOC: I believe I join many with my preference for public information and results, unless they have an essential need to be handled privately, for both efficiency and enjoyment!
OOC: Good Evening, adventurers, and thank you, Sorore!
OOC: For the procedural responses, I now tally six votes in favor of public display of results or information, and one vote in favor of partial display. For now, we shall go with the former, unless players request or circumstances otherwise specifically warrant use of the PM (which remains an excellent option for almost anything else outside the game, of course).

Casta takes in the evolving situation. She hears Yokai and notes his discovery. She quickly checks the distance. Can't make it down. Flank. Surround.
Casta glances down at her wound and decides that it is more insult than restriction and steps around Feldinor while loudly forcing open the rusty sewer grate with the edge of her gleaming shield. She presses quickly down the shadowed corridor, her celestial darkvision piercing the wet gloom.
While moving, familiar concepts flash through her mind. Lay a hasty trap. Not only evil, but devious. Two afflictions are common bedfellows. Surrender and reconciliation are goal. Deepest villains not utterly beyond redemption. Not now. Lives at risk. Subdual is demanded. Protect first.
She reaches the corner of the sewer corridor and makes eye contact with the kidnapping murderer. Saying nothing, her eyes squint as she thinks a silent prayer "May Kelimvor take mercy on your soul" Her noble spear leaps from its underhand carry position toward the miscreant lying in wait.
Mechanically:
Move 25' to the east. Occupied space counts as difficult terrain.
Free Interact action to press open the now liberated door. (Thanks guys!)
No remaining movement. Now in 5' reach, attack with spear.
Note: The enemy has no cover per DMG p.251 so a straight roll is due. (unlike Pathfinder).
Attack: 20 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
(I see the auto-roller had trouble with the way I entered the damage formula. I should have entered 1d6 not d6. Here is another damage roll)

//// Correction. Fool player forgot to add proficiency bonus to the spear attack. Thank you SynAckuL for catching and pointing out the error. To hit is 16 vice 14. ////
Casta's spear thrust strikes true, and pierces the shrouded killer high on his forward right leg, narrowly missing his hip or groin. He hisses in pain behind the dark mask, but does not cry out, and the Paladin perhaps perceives, for a fleeting second, the dimmest, pulsing blood-red glow from his hidden eyes...
OOC: Good Evening, Adventurers, and thank you, Casta!
OOC: Apologies for the delay in response this time, Adventurers! For those among our company familiar with the gaming community's annual convention battle rhythms, this would have been the weekend that some of us would have made the journey to GENCON. Although our namesake coronavirus brought down the convention as it has so much else this year, I've participated (with some of you) in a few live online games over the past couple days as we engaged in the surrogate GENCON Online experience. Far from the same, to be sure, but had a bit of fun and satisfaction supporting the community with some time and resources.
OOC: Returning to the Descent in this Age of Corona...Belmort has the initiative!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Belmort moves 5 ft Northeast, then 15 ft East and 5 ft South east. While moving to that location he drops his battle axe and pulls a javelin When Belmort arrives to the South of Yokai he throws the javelin at the the assassin from above.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Belmort rushes to Yokai's side, next to the sewer shaft opened by the Warlock, drawing a javelin as he approaches. Halting at the edge of the hole, the dragonborn hurls his javelin down with the full force of his strength upon the shadowed figure waiting in ambush below...and strikes!

Belmort's javelin plunges into the crown of the shrouded killer's head, the weapon hurled with enough strength by the massive Fighter to completely embed the long piercing blade into its skull. With a choked, gurgling exhalation of its final breath, the masked assassin crumples lifeless to the floor of the sewer tunnel...
OOC: Hail and well-met, Adventurers! What a strike - a rush to seize the opportunity created by Yokai, an attack roll that just reached the armor class of the enemy (AC12, no armor), a roll for max damage outside a critical hit, and a top-of-the-head hit location for a strike from above - the makings of outstanding heroic narrative, and worthy of an Inspiration Point!
OOC: As it happens, that enemy was actually highest in this encounter's full initiative order, meaning that Feldinor now has the initiative!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
ooc: Well after reading up on the rules about moves and action, this will be rather anti-climactic.
Feldinor sees a tactical situation developing now that first blood has been drawn. "Well I guess we now know that they don't want to give up quietly. Into the breach!" Before you outrun my legs.
Action to interact with object and put away my Arcane Trickster tools. See I like the sounds of that better. Move 25' down tunnel to the intersection that has just been cleared. Free interact with object during move to draw his short sword.
And he would like to be as quiet as he can moving down that 25' Stealth13 ooc: I didn't seen in the rules where stealth may reduce my speed. if that is the case then Feldinor would move the 25' and bravely, loudly move into the T intersection.

Yokai sees the massive wall of people ahead.
As his movement, he will move 30' east and pull his crowbar as part of the movement.

As his action, he will use the crowbar to attempt to pry up the sewer grate, with advantage: 21, 4.
