Once they leave, Olivia begins to chuckle, then speak. "Kind heart... that's a first, thank you Talin. I'll follow whatever path you two decide to take."
Once they leave, Olivia begins to chuckle, then speak. "Kind heart... that's a first, thank you Talin. I'll follow whatever path you two decide to take."
On their way out Korba calmly replies "It's not a matter of the contract with you. I'd happily work with you without a contract. It's that we're bound to deal with the contract we currently have. Again, do you have a way for us to contact you from a distance?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As you guys make your way back to town you follow the same path you took to get to the dwarf wizard woman's house. (I'll make perception checks for you three.
As they near the tavern, Talinian stifles a yawn. "Well...that was a high cost low reward venture. One of our number killed, the other badly injured and maybe we know where she is and maybe we do not. I have a room in that inn there," he points at an inn across the dusty street and down perhaps 200 feet. "I will bid you both a good night. I need food, a stiff drink, some meditation, and sleep. Meet you here at the first hour after dawn to give our report?" After they agree on a time, the wizard nods a goodbye and heads to the inn where he gets his meal, his drink, springs for a bath, studies his spells, and sleeps until morning.
You all go your separate ways, going back to the respective inns that you all have been staying in. And get a long rest.
In the morning you wake and meet up at the corner down the street from the guild hall, and enter together. Orros is sitting at his desk working when you walk in he looks up gives a small smirk. A halfling wearing no armor, with a mix of blood, mostly dried starts to walk up the stairs behind Orros, who turns and says. "Let Avery know the new group is back, and alive." Orros turns back to you all and says, "Go ahead and have a seat." And Orros points to the seating area.
You go and sit down and wait for a short time, there is only the group of women that you saw the day before. Then Avery comes down the stairs and sits down. "And have we completed the mission?" She asks.
"We have located the girl, yes."Korba replies, and explains what he knows of her location, and that she seems to be traveling of her own free will. He continues "also, though we do not have the history that you do with the mage that hired us... I have reason to believe he may be using the Guild to harass, or potentially... deal with... those he does not like. Neither suspect he provided us had any motivation to commit the crime to which they were accused. He's clearly paranoid... Though I will admit that we only spoke with his... amphibious house keeper."Pausing for a moment he adds "Those who cannot keep their own houses in order cannot be relied upon."
Talinian tries hard not to stare at Korba but does not interrupt or otherwise dispute the statements. The location of the girl, sure, and that she appeared well, healthy and under no duress, certainly. But the rest...well, Korba was his teammate and deserved his support. Not that I disagree, necessarily, just we did not discuss those things. Oh well...
"As this is our first mission for the guild, when can we expect our compensation?" asks Talinian. He wanted to get it settled that they deemed the mission completed.
Avery sits and thinks for a moment then gives her thoughts. "Well I have two thoughts for you. One you could just go an let Anneleth know what you have found, and see what he has to say, I would avoid giving him your current opinions of him. The second, and what I would prefer you to do. Is to travel to Fadonne, and see if you can find her, Chaarp normally comes to the guild hall on Wednesdays, to pick things up, and drop off gold, I will give him an update. Now the reason I'm asking you to do this is last night, we had two members come in from up north, and they brought a contract with them from The Imperial Army, they are looking for some aid." and she pulls a contract out from her pocket and hands it to Korba.
Royal Army, in need of aid, undead disrupting military actions, Camp Wilton north of Fandonne. See General Ianlin Calser, present this slip at gate for entry. Pay 500 gold.
Avery continues "So, you could check in on the girl, and then run and help with this undead situation, and then come back. Camp Wilton is a small Camp that Army has set up to help with the rebels. Probably a few hours north of Fandonne."
When Avery finishes talking two figures walk down the stairs and into the tavern of the guild hall. Please describe what you look like, both new and old so that our new players don't have to go back and look.
Olivia is a human woman standing a little over 5ft tall with long black hair going down to her mid back with bangs just covering her eyebrows. She wears studded leather armor and has a rapier attached to her left hip with a whip on the opposite hip, as well as a buckler strapped to her left arm. Under her armor her clothes can be seen with a few rips and tears from a recent fight. She currently has her head on the table, very obviously tired.
Talinian stands and bows to the newcomers. "I am Talinian the Blue, wizard by training and inclination. Pleased to meet you. And you are?" he says. Talinian is a tall tiefling, standing a little over 6 feet, with deep blue hair, pale red skin, and golden cat-like eyes. Just peeking out from behind him you catch the tips of his wings.
Brandal Flintneck nods his head to Talinian in response to his greeting. His eyes look around the room, just briefly and quickly, simply taking everything after some time in seclusion. He is quiet and unassuming as most svirfneblin, or deep gnomes in the common tongue, are.
His grey skin covers a thin and wiry body. It almost seems like you can make out every muscle fibre in his arms and legs that isn't covered by his sleeveless top and short pants. The top of his head is bald, but his white, thick, bushy eyebrows sit above deep set eyes, and his long white beard hangs almost to his knees and is tied at the end to keep it neat. His face has a slight discolouration, like his skin had tanned around what looks like the top of a skull that matched his own features (think Baron Samedi but not as pronounced or obvious). This earned him the nickname "Bones", though it may have also been his chosen profession, he's not sure.
"I am... Bones," he says in a low gruff voice, lightly tapping his chest to indicate himself to the group, "I too, am wizard, though I can heal if necessary." With that, Bones will step over to Olivia and, placing a hand on her shoulder, cast Mending to repair her damaged clothes. He then looks more closely around the room, in search of any books. If he sees some he will go over to study their names. As he looks at the book names, "Undead is my, uh... specialty," Bones says to no one in particular, "Interesting to see why these undead plague the camp."
Sitting with the group Korba looks to Olivia and asks "Did you not sleep well last night?" and to Talinian asks "How was your bath?" He then orders breakfast and a thick stout, feeling surprisingly hungry today. ((I know it's the guild hall, but you said it's 'tavern-like' at the start. Can we get food and drinks here?))
Listening to Avery talk about their new contract, at the mention that they are being told to go North, he instinctively reaches down to touch the hilt of his dagger in his belt. Pausing for a second he then asks "And assuming we find the girl? What are we to do? The original contract was simply to locate her I believe, which we have done. Is just 'checking in' enough? Is that contract not complete?" He's asking this to know if more is required, or if they will be paid for their work and are 'free' to do as they wish with regards to the girl.
As the two 'new' recruits approach the table they see a very darkly skinned half-elf, easily mistaken for a full drow if you don't look closely enough, with long white hair tied back into a tail. Wearing comfortable, loose fitting clothing that allows him to move freely, his armor is packed up on his horse, which is parked outside. He's wearing dark lens glasses, not nearly as intricate as those worn by the gnome on the other side of the room, but act to hide his eyes well enough. He has only one weapon visible on him, a dagger in a sheath on his side, which you see him reach to just before approaching the table.
He then opens the new contract to read the text carefully, as there was some confusion with what exactly was required with the last, and he'd like to be very clear this time. Looking to the newcomers, he says "You may call me Korba." And looking to Bones says "Your undead...specialty" with a slight cock of his eyebrow "...seems like it'll be useful"
((which direction was Bali's cabin from town again?))
When Bones' spell begins to take effect Olivia lets out a groan and lifts her head up to look at the two new recruits, "Olivia." she says then immediately slamming her head back down onto the desk.
Bones there is a book shelf, it is old and dusty, with 4 books on it. 1 is titled 'Zeflie's guide to sword fighting' (in our real world it would be called sword fighting for dumbies writen by someone who can't sword fight) 'Beasts of the Far East' which is little more than a picture book, but you have never seen or heard of it, 'Twin Assassins and a Princess' a romantic book, and lastly 'Whats so Punny? Maurice's Guide to one liners and other jokes'
Bones grumbles at the book choices, but pulls "Beasts of the Far East" off the shelf to flick through it and try to commit to memory the beasts. Once he finishes flicking through the picture book, he replaces it and picks up "What's so Punny?", remarking to himself, "Hmm, I may have a use for this." (Bones is referring to Tasha's Hideous Laughter here.)
He brings the book back the table with the others to read. "You keep mentioning a girl, who is she? If all we must do is check on her, and she is on the way to camp... this seems easy enough."
"I could always come with you back to the guild. Make it a proper contract, and you can see what they have to say." Bali almost yells.
