JARLMOOT

Yselm leads you all to Jarlmoot when you are ready. Seven empty, ice-glazed thrones form a ring atop a snow-covered hillock. The ancient thrones are carved out of blocks of stone.

 Ice covers seven giant thrones arrayed in a ring atop a snow-covered hill. Scores of black ravens gather overhead. Currently, there is nothing sitting, living or otherwise, on the thrones. This place doesn't feel quite right.

At the Refugee Camp: "Not yet. She had too many warriors and I believe that she turned into some sort of strange creature." He also takes Kaz aside at the camp and casts Message, because there's no such thing as being too careful.

At the Jarlmoot:

Percival glances at Vetis for a second, since she's the reason we're here, then looks around.

Lucas, realizing this to be a place of power, though of what sort he doesn't understand, bows, and offers his respect before stepping into the ring of thrones to look around. "Did the person who gave us this mission give any clues?" He starts sifting through the snow with his gloves and feet, looking for some sign of what it could be they're here for. At some point, he thinks to maybe get a higher view and climbs up to one of the thrones to look around.

Vetis looks around and, to be safe, casts armor of agathys before moving over to one of the thrones and examining it to see if she can determine the purpose of this place.

"Yes." Yselm says, standing next to you all. "Under the light of a full moon, the apparitions of dead frost giant jarls appear in the thrones, clutching the ends of their armrests with icy fingers as they reminisce about the glorious past. They challenge anyone who is here. The spirit of Reggaryarva, jarl of jarls, will open his treasure vault to anyone who defeats his champion. That champion is Vetis." she says, pointing to her. "Luckily, she has all of you to help. Also? Go ahead and level up."

You have to wait till evening for the full moon. Hopefully, it's tonight.

BACK WITH PERCY

 AT YSELM

"Have you known anyone to survive the Jarl of Jarl's champion? And are you saying that Vetis is the Jarl's champion, or ours?"

"I believe that Vetis is the Jarl's champion and we're hers. The more interesting question is how Vetis came to be the champion of a dead frost giant jarl."

As Percival speaks, he casts Produce Flame using that trinket he got from Vanifer and starts a fire.

Shrek calmly sits down near the edge of one of the thrones (not on a throne - but by it), and sitting cross-legged, rests and relaxes and waits for the full moon to come out, and the challenge to begin.

Vetis is silent for a long moment. "...Wonderful." she deadpans.

Really?

You're a big girl, you'll be fine.

Is there anything ELSE you've volunteered me for I should be aware of? Perhaps soloing a dragon or something?

Now then, that would be telling. Now hold still, I'm tired of you failing skill checks.

The air around Vetis drops several more degrees for a moment, then returns to its prior temperature. The tiefling shakes her head and pulls up her hood.

Lucas scales down, hopping over to Vetis' side, "Lay off Percival. We all have our own secrets, Vetis has saved our hides more times than I like to think, she's earned some privacy." He huffs and pulls down his scarf/mask for a moment, letting out a tired sigh, a cloud of warm air flying up before he pulled the scarf back up.

Vetis gives Lucas a slightly strange look before shrugging. She glances at Percy. "If I figure it out, I'll let you know."

He's being nice.

I know. I just can't figure out why.

Beats me too. Gratitude is always good, though.

"I'm not prying, it's an honest question."

Yselm turns to Vetis. "You are the chosen of Auril, are you not? I had a premonition that you would be the one to defeat the Jarl's champions. His underground treasure trove is said to contain items of wonder should the challenge be successful."

AHAHAHAHA

I suppose THAT cat's out of the bag now, isn't it?

Indeed. Time to find out what they'll do.

Vetis nods to Yselm. "Yes," she says simply.

Shrek confusedly scratches his chin, and pipes in "Wait.  Shrek confused.  Master Vetis is Auril's friend?"

And after a pause, he adds "And what Yselm want Vetis for?  Yselm want Vetis to get treasure for her self?"

"Hmm. Well I suppose that two of my questions were answered at once. Rather efficient of you, Yselm."

Kai’s lips thin into a frown when it is revealed that Vetis is the chosen of Auril. He had a hunch, but was too caught up in his own issues to try to confirm it. He glances over to the tiefling, then back to Yselm waiting for their answer to Shrek’s question.

Sobek stands up slowly, from where he’d been using Mold Earth to craft some windbreaks around Percy’s fire, eyes narrowed in concentration. He starts muttering to himself..

’Nature is out of balance, caused by Auril. We don’t know why, or why now. But Yselm is a druid, why would she be using Auril’s chosen to kill these ghost Jarls...? We don’t know enough...’

Suddenly self-conscious, he stares intently at Yselm. Unconsciously echoing Shrek’s instinctive question of a moment before ‘Why are we here? What will this accomplish beyond treasure?’

Lucas looked over to Vetis after Yselm revealed her secret, his eyes peeking out from under his hood and scarf. "....I take it was Auril that told you where to find me then?" He doesn't wait for a proper response, and instead bows to Vetis, stating plainly, "I don't know what your relationship with her is, but I want to thank you and her. I wanted to give my thanks earlier but....my head wasn't in the right place." He raises his head, a slightly mellow smile in his gaze as he nods towards Vetis, "Its thanks to you two that I'm still alive...and I still remember what that drow told us, so I don't know if this means we'll have to deal with her at some point....but I will respect her if we do. I owe both of you my life....if you could pass on my thanks. I owe you both a life debt."
