Smoke squints his eyes looking down the ledge and quickly covers his nose and mouth from the smell. He then moves back to the others and whispers. There does not seem to be anything down there, just a horrid smell and trash.
I doubt we will find any clues on where the army went down there.
He looks back and forth Shall we go to the large or small corridor? Perhaps we should check the small one, the large one will likely run further down the cavern.
Smoke waits on the response of his companions as he carefully places the tip of his rapier on the floor.
Yevele nods in assent to Smoke's assessment "The small corridor would be a good place to start." If no one objects, the monk will quietly move down the corridor, holding her torch low to the ground in hope that it's light won't shine too far down the corridor and alert anyone of their coming. stealth8
A spear with a pitted blade lies on the floor near the top of the steps in the smaller corridor.
At the base of these steeply descending steps, a curtain hangs across the passage. It is made from hundreds of heavy leather strips, each about the width of a human hand. The strips are fixed to the ceiling and are long enough to drag on the floor. The curtain extends from wall to wall. The leather comes from a variety of local animals and is badly cured. The curtain is several layers thick with no gaps, preventing anyone from seeing through it at all.
"Wait!" Rogram says, but in a loud whisper. He sheathes his sword and conjures his mage hand, sending it toward the curtain. He first prods it a few times. If nothing happens, he tries to grasp a portion of the curtain (toward the middle) and pull to the side to create an opening to look through.
He's keeping everyone at the top of the stairs while he's doing this.
Smoke stops as Rogram calls out. Smoke will wait at the top of the stairs and inspect the spear and the staircase from what he can see from that point. Trying to make sure its not trapped like the stairs earlier. Having no intention of sliding down to whatever might be down there.
After that he steps back waiting for Rogram to finish his inspection of the curtain.
The curtain shifts as the mage hand prods it, heavily swaying an inch or so each time. The spectral hand then grabs a few strips of the curtain near the center and pulls it aside.
A wave of cold air wafts from the room up the stairs toward you. Looking downward as you are, only a small portion of the room's floor is visible through the small gap in the curtain. The natural stone floor has a coppery stained hue in comparison to the other sections of the cavern you have seen, and the smell of old blood assaults your nose.

"I'll follow directly behind you." Yevele adds, holding her sword out ready to attack any creature that appears as they go through the curtain. She will try to be as stealthy as possible.
OOC: Yes, sorry I forgot to type it out, Smoke did not see any indication of a trap along the stairway.
The mage hand continues to hold the curtain wide, allowing you to pass through into the chill air of the room beyond. The source of the smell becomes immediately apparent.
The floor of the room is covered in dried, coppery puddles of blood. Four floor-to-ceiling columns are spaced across the chamber, and chains have been strung between them like clothesline. Animal carcasses hang on hooks from the chains. You see gutted and skinned antelope, deer, goats, what might be big cats, and even a few small bears. Some of this meat has been here for a while if the smell is a reliable indicator.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Yevele will slowly and quietly move around the edge of the room in a clockwise direction. She will be specifically looking for traps and secret doors as she moves around the room.
Smoke waits for Yevele and Rogram to move forward into the room before walking in further himself.
At first he will keep his daggers in hand and try to see if they are truly alone in the room. If he feels there is no danger here he will try to determine how much of the meat is still fresh enough to feed people, in order to try and determine how many foes might still remain.
Do you think the army will come back for this meat or would it still be needed for those inside the cave?

Yevele Investigation: 5
The cave seems natural to Yevele as she moves through, examining the area and its walls. It appears empty aside from the hanging meat, and she finds no indications of a trap or hidden passage.
Smoke can deduce that while most of the meat is far from fresh, the cold nature of the room has preserved it well enough that it could still be eaten. There is enough meat hanging here to feed a small army for a few days.
"We may as well go check out that other tunnel. There doesn't seem to be anything useful down this way." Yevele states as she heads out of the meat locker.

With the mage hand dissipated and no longer holding the leather curtain open, Smoke pulls it wide to allow the others to pass through.
At the top of the stairs, you are greeted with a screech. In the midst of your exploration of the meat locker, four kobolds have entered the large open cavern. Two of the creatures are hunched over and examining the bodies of the kobolds slain here earlier in the day, but the sound of alarm comes from the other pair at the far end, near the tunnel Yevele had mentioned. Behind this pair is the bound form of a human, being dragged along by rope. The kobold who has just shouted drops a large pack of equipment. As it crashes to the ground, the creatures rush to draw their daggers and slings.
Smoke squints his eyes looking down the ledge and quickly covers his nose and mouth from the smell. He then moves back to the others and whispers. There does not seem to be anything down there, just a horrid smell and trash.

Rogram is a bit disarmed. "Wow," he says, admiring the game.
Beside the columns, are the carcasses hung as to hide anyone that might be waiting to spring on us?
OOC: The carcasses are hanging off of the ground, so it would be tough for someone to be hiding behind them without at least their legs showing.

Rogram follows Yevele.
As Smoke returns to the others he nods to Yevele Yes there seems to be nothing here at the moment.
However i doubt this much food would be left behind if the army is not planning on returning. Perhaps they have gone out to attack another town.
