Aimon smiles and nods. Fair warning is fair warning.
”Hi Eva,” Aimon begins. “I find myself often being stepped on or stabbed by those much larger than me. Perhaps I’m a little reckless, but maybe I could use a little help. I’ve heard of a cloak that works in such a way that those attacking the wearer have trouble focusing on them. Would you have such a thing?”
(OOC looking for a Cloak of Displacement - not sure what that would go for down here)
"I'm usually trying to attack said creatures from a distance. Do you have anything that could improve my aim or make my location harder to discern?" Caelynn adds, stepping forward next to Aimon.
((OOC: @DM Oak (and Grwobert!) is pretty much completely unaware of what magical items are available! I’m quite new to the game! So will just describe the kinds of things he’s into))
”Eva, I follow the path of the barbarian... I protect my friends and am skilled at fighting... I already have this gorgeous girl...”, he shows his greataxe, +1 “But I would be intrigued as to what you might suggest for me!”.
Eva taps her pointed arm against the side of her face thoughtfully before saying, "We have an item called a Cloak of Displacement. It creates illusions of yourself around you. It costs 4,500 gold."
She turns to Oak and says, "I'm afraid your going to be a bit more specific. Would you like something that enhances your durability? We have several such items as well as potions upstairs."
"As for you, we have several items in the archery and range section. Would you like to view them?" she asks Caelynn.
Aimon winces at the price. "I may have to pinch my pennies for a little while before making the splurge on that," he says to Eva. "Unless there's anything you would consider in trade? Something missing from your collection that you haven't been able to obtain?"
He looks over at Oak and then back to Eva.
"Perhaps something less powerful than a Cloak of Displacement. I've heard of ones that act almost like armor and provide increased protection for the wearer. My friend and I could both benefit from something like that."
(OOC Cloak of Protection - not sure, but think those are more common than Cloaks of Displacement, maybe less hefty a price?)
Oak appraises what Aimon says, “Hmmm... yes something like a cloak or ring of protection would be useful I think.... What would something like that set us back? And do you have simple healing potions?”, he says, turning to Eva.
As they move through the shop, maybe towards items they are asking about, Oak just mentions to Caelynn, “M’Lady, are you still looking for better armour? ...You know, my sergeant when I was training, always cursed the army for not providing better armour. He’d go on for hours if you let him, wittering on about ‘mithral’... ..I never saw any, but I wonder if they have something like that here? Either in this shop, or at one of the smithy’s? What do you think?”.
"I have heard of that..." Caelynn ponders. She'd had the same conversation several times. "But I've also heard that it's quite expensive. And besides, I've grown a bit attached to this set. It's better than what they gave us in the army, that's for sure." She looks down at the dark leather breastplate she had recently acquired from Velkynvelve. It lacked the intricate elven design of her original set, but there was no denying it was more protective. She lowers her voice a bit - she doubts anyone who cares is listening, but it can't hurt to be careful. "I took it from the prison we were trapped in before we met you. It's a bit of a small victory, having something I stole from them, if you know what I mean."
(I've figured out that even with mithral, given my current proficiencies the only way to boost my AC would be with enchanted studded leather or something like a cloak of protection. But I'm pretty happy with where it is now, and I'm usually not the target of attacks anyways. I don't think it's worth spending the money on magic items to increase my AC.)
Oak absentmindedly rubs a little bit of cloth hanging from his belt at his right hip, and nods “I know what you mean exactly.... ..Everyone is always saying I should wear more armour... or some armour... There are definitely benefits to travelling light and quiet”. He nods again sagely...
((Just realized the bots and the fortune teller had the same name. Sorry))
Eva leads you through the shelves filled with wonders to an area stocked with ranges weapons and ammos. Delicate bows, intricate iron crossbows, glowing throwing axes, and all sorts of weapons hang on racks here. Just a bit farther down, you can see other weapons. Two huge iron statues guard this area made of black metal. You can see heat seeping through the seams in their armor.
Eva says as she gestures a sharpened point to the weapons, "We have magical bows, enchanted arrows designed to puncture the armor of dragons, javelins that almost never miss, bracers that guide your arrows on a straighter path, you name it. You can test some of these items if you like. Just say which one. "
Caelynn considers the selection for a moment. She'd been willing to trade out her old armor for a better set, but her bow was a bit more sentimental. Crafted by her father and personalized over the decades, it wasn't something she'd replace on a whim. The new one would have to be truly spectacular, and she doubts they could afford something of that caliber. "I'd like to try out those bracers you mentioned, if you don't mind," she decides eventually.
While the two women are browsing the ranged equipment, Oak steps aside a little bit with Eva and, slightly embarrassed, asks quietly, “You wouldn’t happen to have... whisper whisper... And how much would that be?...” ((@DM message incoming)).
Eva whispers back her response. You watch as her outline wavers for a a moment before she splits into two Eva's. The second Eva gestures for Oak and Aimon to follow her. She leads you two to a section near the weapons that contains fine clothing. She directs Oak to the item she requested. After that, she takes his Aimon to a rotating coat rack covered in cloaks and robes. She pulls one out and says, "This is a Cloak of Protection. It weaves a protective enchantment around the wearer. We also have rings and amulets that do the same thing, but they cost more. This cloak will cost 400 gold." The cloak is a navy blue, it has a blotchy pattern that fades into a blue dark enough too almost be black. A large golden symbol is one he back of the cloak.
Back at the ranger weapons, Eva notices your interested in the bracers. She comments, "Those are Bracers of Archery. They assist any arrows you fire to find their target. Those ones will cost 150 gold." They look like leather Bracers that you wear on your forearm to prevent the sting of the bow string striking you. They have a spiraling design etched into them and have small emeralds embedded around the edges.
She turns to Trill perusing the equipment and asks, "Have you seen anything you like?"
While Trill and Caelynn are off with the other Eva, and Aimon is browsing the cloaks, Oak will try to conclude his business with their Eva quickly and quietly, and will place a smallish parcel straight into his pack.
Then he’ll rejoin Aimon by the cloaks, a little distracted, looking over everyone’s heads just marvelling at the array of items on show, most of which he has no idea what they do.
"Could I try them on? And do you have a target or something I could take a few shots at with them?" Caelynn almost reaches out to run her finger over the designs, but then remembers the strict 'no touching' rule and quickly withdraws.
Eva says to Caelynn, "Go ahead and try them on. As for a target..." She turns towards he closest wall about 30 feet away and waves her arm spike. An archery target poofs into existence on wall. She steps out of your way and then privately says to Trill, "That is a Flamebolter. It shoots bolts of fire instead of your normal ammo. Once a day, it can conjure a Fireball." She the gestures to the metal crossbow Trill was interested in.
