After resting, the party gathers everything up and moves on. Jimjar leads the group through the misty cavern. After moving in almost 100 feet, the mist grows thicker. Now that you are in the heavy mist, the feelings of animosity you have been feeling grow stronger. You travel for about an hour across the flat surface through the silent cavern when You come to an abrupt drop off. Peering over the edge, the mist is many times thicker down there than it is where your are currently. The mist below seems to roil and churn. In your peripheral vision, you swear you can see shapes that bear a resemblance to leering faces and outstretched claws, but when you look at them directly, they disappear. Jimjar walks along the edge of the cliff for about 5 minutes when he finds a staircase carved into the cliff that leads below. The stairs are slick and narrow, but the party makes its way down without problem.
At the bottom of the stairs, the mist is much thicker. Vision of any kind is limited to sixty feet. The dark stone is moist and covered in a fine layer of moss. Near where you descended, you can faintly see stone structures looming in the fog. They all appear to be similar in size and shape. They are all squat and rectangular, and formed of the same stone around them. Portions of them have collapsed and caves in from the weight of ages. Moss and similar growth cover the dark stone of their construction.
The ground lurches and a dull roar fills the cavern as another earthquake strikes. The trembling isn't as intense as the other ones you have felt, but you hear a great cracking noise from above and to your left as a portions of the ceiling detach and flatten some of the structures around you. Similar sounds ahead of you make you think that this is happening around the cavern.
When the shaking ends, Sarith says, "The veil between this world and the next is thin. Be respectful and silent."
Stool puffs a cloud of spores into Caelynn's face. He asks in your mind, "Why are we here?"
"Most of the buildings look similar to these ones. I'm assuming they are homes," Sarith responds .
@Aimon
Nice natural 20.
Peering the the thick fog, you can see faintly in the doorway of one of the ruins is what appears to be a large scorch marks on the ground. In the center of the scorch mark, a small pile of something rests there. You can't tell what it is from this distance. Maybe ash?
"I don't know where we are, but I don't like it," Stool says. After hearing Trill's comment, he asks, " What does &^#%$#&**( mean? "
@Caelynn
When you crouch down, you see an outline of a humanoid obscured in mist just twenty feet away from you in your peripheral vision. When you look directly at it, the apparation vanishes.
You run your finger along the feathery moss, and a memory rises to the surface of your mind. When you were receiving training on the surface to prepare you to come down here, you remember being taught about a moss that looks like this. It is called ormu. When dried and mixed with other ingredients, it will glow in the dark. Some Underdark cultures use it to create glowing tattoos.
Caelynn uses one of her daggers to scrape a large chunk of the moss from the floor and stuffs it into her pocket. She doesn't have all the components right now, but it could come in handy later.
"I don't think any of us like it, so we're going to get out of here as soon as we can. And that is a very bad, very mean word that you should not say."
Aimon cannot help but laugh when he hears Trill’s outburst. He knows he must be quiet but the sounds of a foul mouthed sailor echoing deep beneath the earth is an irony he cannot help but enjoy.
He gets himself under control and turns to the others.
”Was this the city that was destroyed?” he asks. “Did it happen too quickly for the inhabitants to flee?”
He looks at the ruined buildings again. “It is as if a dragon came through and burned the residents where they stood.”
He takes a few steps closer to the building he was looking into.
Aimon's curiosity gets the better of him and he enters the ruined home ahead of him; the one he was looking at with the scorch marks and ash. He looks around more closely, careful not to step in the ash or touch the walls.
You walk inside and duck underneath the low door frame to enter the building. It is about 40 feet long and extends back almost 30 feet. The walls seem to keep most of the mist out, but some of the mist has penetrated inside through hole and gaps in the structure. The roof is slanted, and is made out of that same gray material the bridges were made out of back at Velkynvelve. Moss also covers most of the materials inside, but not as heavily as outside. In the center of the room is central, hollow pillar made of stone that supports the roof. In the center of the pillar is the rusted remnants of what has to be a cooking pot. To your left in the corner, there is a small pit filled with grimy water that has a coating of pond scum growing across the top. To your right in the corner, there are several heavily rotted remains that appear to be to be a table and several stopped made of the same material as the sagging roof. In the far right corner, there is a pile of refuse. Near that, there is a cabinet of sorts that has collapsed. The car left corner has caved in and is letting in tendrils of mist. The musty scent of decay hangs heavy in the air. There is a large scorch mark with a pile of black ash in the doorway and another similar in size near the dental pillar. Three smaller marks and likes of ashes are near the like of refuse, and there is one small pile near the small pond. Near the three small piles, there is a small carving resting on the ground. It looks like a person roughly hewn from stone. You can't tell what species it is suppose to be.
Aimon examines the room more carefully, using his rapier to lift up an edge of the collapsed cabinet to see inside, and to nudge the pile of refuse, and then picks up the small carving.
(Perception: 9 Passive Perception: 17)
While he examines the room he calls out to the others. "I think these could be what's left of the people who lived here. Does anyone know what a proper burial would be here?"
Your senses glean no further information from the room. The carving looks well used and is smoothed in several places. You think it was probably a doll of some kind.
Outside, Caelynn and Trill are keeping an eye out while Trill specifically focusses on Aimon. Caelynn, you can see in the mist a figure walking briskly towards you. Just before you can make out its features, a fellow of pain and rage splits the silent air. The figure stops, and then races towards the sound. It takes a few steps before fading into mist. Another bellow echoes, and the sounds of combat follows. It sounds like a fight of some kind is happening in the mist near you away from the cliff.
Aimon jumps at the bellow of rage and races to the door to the ruined house to see what is happening. He sheaths his rapier and pulls out his hand crossbow and strings a bolt.
"I don't know, it sounds like some sort of battle is going on out there," Caelynn points to where the figure ran off too. "Something was coming towards us, but as soon as it heard that noise it turned around and disappeared. I don't know if it saw us or not." She looks to the entire group. "Do you think we should go see what's going on, or lay low and wait for things to calm down?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Better to find out what's coming than to wait for it to have the advantage," Aimon says, trying to sound wise, when really he's just incredibly curious as to what on earth is going on.
The mist and shadows will hopefully make it easier to approach the sounds of whatever fight is going on without being seen.
"Let's go."
He moves close to the walls of the ruins and walks through the swirling mist, moving as quietly as possible.

Aimon nods to Sarith. This mist dampens more than their clothes he thinks to himself.
"Do you know this place?" Aimon says quietly to Sarith. "The stones looks the same size and shape. Was this a structure of some kind? A temple?"
Aimon takes a step towards them, peering into the mist to see if he can make out anymore detail.

"Yes, this is the one that was destroyed. Rumor is a ritual killed everyone," Sarith says after the sound of laughter fades.
Eldeth adds, "The only thing living here are memories."
