Yaren will take the 600 gold and go to buy the Instrument of the Bards at Shop 5, and I'll make checks to look for 1 Healing Potion, a Luck Stone, and a Hat of Disguise. He will add Guidance to all of these checks, as he is a Spirits Bard. Tell me the total amount of gold after you look at all the checks.
Hat of Disguise= Survival( 5 + 2 ), Investigation( 6 + 1 ), Persuasion( 24 + 2 )
EDIT: I deleted the Eyes of the Eagle bc I can only attune to 3 items. Thats why it says "potentially manipulated dice rolls". Also the dice rolls for the Heal pot and the Hat should be switched.
If you restore the roll scripts, the flag message will go away. You don't have to it's just general FYI, and you can mark it as ignore, etc. Again, it's fine, just for future reference, etc.
( OOC: Alright, rolled 875 gp + free 600 gp + 8 gp left from background + 45 gp from selling some starting gear I don't need for half the price = 1528 gp )
An average sized Tortle leaves The Cartophile. They are not an unknown sight in Nyanzaru, often coming in to trade or in search of adventure, but they enjoy traveling too much to settle down in here. This one, with light green skin and yellow eyes, seems to be on the older side, but not a senior quite yet. He walks around with a well worn wooden staff, taking a look at the shops he was recommended. In one window a much fancier quarterstaff catches his interest, and he steps inside to get a better look. It seems to be of sturdy make, partially wrapped in colored cloth and the rest carved with arcane symbols. Moving towards the counter to ask about its price, he notices a rack of potion vials, and decides to take a closer look. Magical oil, love potion, fire resistance... not too interesting. But climbing, shrinking and health... those he grabs and takes to the clerk. With the staff worth a whole thousand gold pieces, the potions drain his remaining wealth down to a measly 28 gold. Not that he's ever needed much, most of his coinage gained from ridding the jungle of undead and other pests, and looting what was left of their victims. He happily leaves the shop, admiring the balance of his new walking stick.
( OOC: Went to magic shop 2. +1 Quarterstaff 1000 gp + potion of climbing 180 gp + potion of diminution 270 gp + potion of healing 50 gp = -1500 gp )
(On a different note from treasure: does the river to Port Nyanzaru flow out to the ocean, I assume? Or inland? That might be our path, right? Or should we start where they started?)

You can sell starting equipment for half the listed price.
If I missed anyone, let me know and we can fix it in pm.
Ooc: buy anything you can afford. Sell things you don't want and if you want a mount, go for it. They haven't mentioned it in thread yet, but I think someone has an Ankylosaurus parked outside the shop.
Out Of Game: Also, I have exactly enough gold to buy the Instrument of the Bards and the Luckstone. I don't have the instrument unlocked on DDB, but I can homebrew up a copy.
Your exploration of the city has led you through streets filled with merchants from the far corners of Toril and revealed to any unfamiliar with the local ecology: strange plants, some obviously carnivorous, oversized feathers, (which the inquisitive would know come from the bird life Aaracokra who fly high above the Mistcliffs to the West) and the occasional dinosaur, which is met by the locals with the same regard one might have for an ox or goat.
If there is a singular concern among the inhabitants of the city, it is the pressing threat of the undead, which seem to overrun the island and keep it from expanding beyond it's southern border, even as it's population swells.

When you return to the Cartophile, he presents you a map. "This map of Chult is updated. Almost none of the interior was explored at the time of Kwalish's expedition. The route they marked on the original is overlaid. You can follow it as much or as little as you like, but as you approach the mountains to the South, you may notice serious discrepancies. It may not appear possible to pass as they did, but you must find a way to investigate what happened to that party. You may wish to consult with the locals as you near the barrier peaks. I have some local maps in this folio you may wish to consult as you trek South, I will leave them with my cartographer, who will accompany you."
At this, the desk against the wall moves suddenly, revealing the legs to be articulated and mobile. The coffin shaped desk shifts to a diagonal position and rotated to face you. Meet Ctenmiir, he will be traveling with you as a guide. He resided in the barrier peaks for years, though that was some time ago. He has ofkate been in my employ. With this, (he hands you a small device, somewhat resembling a closed pocket watch, but no glass or dial is seen) the legs which carry his shelter may be controlled by simple verbal commands, if none are given, it will follow you on its own. " Say 'Hello' to your new coworkers Ctenmiir."
That's fine with me. It's all just for convenience. Uses per day seem to be the big issue with those. I suggest just keeping track in the notes section when you use/cast and erase all the notes when you long rest, but however you want to manage it is fine.
I made it as a homebrew item with 1 charge for each spell that comes with the instrument, so I may not need to use notes. Also, where do we start on the map?
Tel takes a look at the map, comparing what he sees to his experiences in traveling the jungle. "It would make sense to me to take a boat to Refuge Bay and follow this route from there. But what was it you said about a toll in the harbor yesterday? I'm afraid I spent most of my funds in one of the stores you recommended", he comments. He also gives some curious looks to the moving table, and as it's introduced, does so himself too: "I am Tel, at your service."
Leann takes in the walking table for a long moment, then glances to her mentor's old friend. "This is looking to be an interesting task you are having us undertake." She observes as she accepts the object the gnome hands over. She glances over the map, trying to look for anything out of place, going by her own knowledge of the area, having grown up in these jungles. She tucks the object away and then pushes her braid back behind her shoulder as she nods to the others. "Do we wish to make up some of the ground we need to cover today, or do some of you need to do more shopping in town first?"
Turning to the table then she gives a bow of respect. "I am Leann." She greets the table. "It will be an experience to travel with such as you. Mayhaps you can explain how and what you are as we do so."
"Great! A new pack of blood bags to cart me around in this cramped coffer. And I suppose you'll be wanting to travel by day, too? Typical." The vampireo grumbles. "Well, have you at least picked a route yet?" He enquires, impatiently.
"Sorry about the attitude, but know that he has proven himself a capable cartographer and I could not have obtained this map without his aid. That said, whatever you do, don't let him out of that coffin." He looks to the coffin, gazing far beyond as he loses himself in thought, or perhaps memory, "It would be... unwise."
Turning back to address you, he continues, "but he is right, you should choose your route wisely before you set out. Have you had a chance to look over the map?" he asks.
Ooc: you would have all met yesterday, feel free to introduce yourselves anytime. You're all essentially freelancers, but you'll be working together, so now is a fine time to get acquainted.
Meta:I thought it would be nice to have some gear at hand before you decided on your personalities, so I held off on it until we resolved all that

Huh, guess I need more gold.
What about the horse? Is that alright? I don’t think I saw your policy about buying mundane equipment.
