The group makes its way down the shaft using the rope that Yu tied off. The rope isn't quite long enough to touch the bottom, so you call the last ten feet and take no damage. As Kell's lights follow him down, it reveals the carnage you have wrought. Dead ants of many sizes litter the floor. It is hard to find a place to step without hearing crunching sounds. The remains of the of the jar litter the ground nearby. The glass shards are resting in a pattern that creates an arcane sigil. An acrid scent lingers in the air. Several large tunnels lead away from the main chamber you are in and lead downwards.
Val whispers a small incantation to himself before climbing down the rope. The faint outline of mage armor shimmers briefly before becoming invisible. He follows the others down the rope and looks around, trying not to gag, shuddering as each step crunched on something. He held his hand on his sheathed knife on his belt, knowing he was nearly useless with it, but still wanting to maintain the look of confidence... and it just made him feel better. (5 Performance to maintain a confident facade).
In a voice he hoped didn't come out as shaky as he felt, he said, "After you professor."
Seraph obliges and takes charge behind Yu. He says, "It would be best to stay behind us." He looks at the three tunnels and says, "Any idea which tunnel would be a good pick? I say we start at the leftmost one and check each systematically."
The light glints of the bodies of ants as they zing down the tunnel. About 30 feet into the tunnel, it slants downward at a steep angle for about 60 feet before opening up into a large chamber. This chamber stretches on for about 100 feet, and it is filled with food. Rotting animals and plants, uprooted trees, and garbage are piled high in the center of the chamber. The smell in here is quite terrible. You can faintly see another tunnel at the other side of the chamber.
Among the pile of garbage that you assume is the ants' food source, you see a twitch of movement. What moved appears to be a brownish tentacle with three eyes at the tip. You can make a Nature or Arcana check to see if you know what the creature is based off of that tentacle.
Seeing the tentacle brings you back to the early days of the Academy when you had to learn about beasts of the world. You think that there might be an otyugh, a foul creature that feeds upon garbage. You remember that while bestial, they are smart enough to speak their own language and make deals with other creatures. They often act as guardians of garbage disposals for other entities as long as they have enough food to eat. Living amongst garbage often causes them to be filthy and disease-ridden. Their maw has been known to harbor a particularly potent disease that it transmits through bite.

Val doesn't seem to have as keen of sight as the others. Nor does he remember what an Otyugh is, but he reckons not getting bit by something that lives in a garbage pile is good advice. Really, just not getting bit in general is good advice. He follows Seraph, keeping an eye on the garbage pile.
Careful to not disturb the creature, you all back out or into the main chamber. The main chamber has two more passages. One of them is larger, but leads downward at a sharp angle. The other one is smaller, but leads downward at a gentler angle.
Seraph shrugs and says, "In the absence of concrete reasoning to base a decision off of, a gut feeling is as good a reason to do something as any. I will take charge." He takes the lead and goes down the tunnel Kell points to.
You make your way down the smaller of the two tunnels. It too is littered with the bodies of dead ants. The tunnel begins to spiral downwards. After almost two minutes at walking, the tunnel opens up into a large chamber. In the far corner against the wall, you can see massive ant that fills almost half the 100 foot long chamber. Its bloated body languishes in the corner, and its small legs drape uselessly on the ground. Two smaller ants are busy pulling large, white grubs from the massive abdomen. Standing protectively in front of the queen are 4 of those larger ants similar to the one that stood guard at the entrance of the tunnel. They seem to have not noticed your presence yet. If you wish to remain hidden, make a Stealth Check.

Kelll shrugs "Left is as good as any other."
He sends his lights shooting down the left tunnel.

Kell lloks startled and tells the team "Stop! There is an otyugh in the garbage pile! dont let it bite you!"

Seraph suggest, "No use in risking falling. Let's take the gentler angled path."
Kell shakes his head "I get the feeling that whatever we are looking for is down there."
He uses his staff, and draws energy from it. (Pearl of power to regain a 2nd level spell slot)
