"Well I can see what I can do about your leg." Alaric says to Herne. "How about we all rest up at the lodge and wait out this coming storm before heading back out? It is likely the mammoth won't be going anywhere since the weather will give it problems as well."
"I agree we need to rest up and prepare, now that we know what we're up against, at least somewhat." Vrajitor goes over to Herne, "I am glad to see you alive. What can you tell us of what is in that place? Did you hear anything?"

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
"Nothing. we know nothing" he glances at Finn and his daughter. "We were kept in that damn cage, and our only contact was the Goblin and none of us spoke Goblin. I'm afraid even if we did it would be for nothing. that poor fool was mad."
Alaric will turn to Finn and say "From what I gather the mammoth was speaking giant tongue. So maybe it has relations with those folk. Regardless, it's good we got you out of there. We best be getting you and silja back to your family."
Weather has calmed down, snow has halted still dark as always, but the glitter of starts can be seen. a good ten hours since the Ankheg fight. you are all safe and relatively warm in and under the wagon. the animals are still alive. What now team? the farm, the edifice, Dougan's hole, waterdeep?? it's your game.
A day and a half later you'll find yourselves under the roof of Finn, his wife Magda, their children (including Silja the oldest)and other extended family members. Finn's ranch includes a half dozen brothers and cousins and their families who reside in the well ordered compound.
The group is tended to, their injuries dressed, their clothing and equipment mended, and their animals rubbed down, stabled, and fed.
During the great meal in the main house stories are told and retold. Acts of bravery enhanced and songs are sung. the men listen intently to Belthran and Vrajitor discuss the fights, Asvala wrestles with a pair of toddlers, Alaric, attended by his banner men, smiles courteously and acts in all ways the gentleman to the alluring glances of the womenfolk of the steading, as he eyes the exit, eager to get started on his plans for the chitin. Herne sits quietly by a window looking out at the stars thinking of his kin, missing somewhere out there. While Sandow fills up on apple pie baked by Silja especially for him, as she and several other girls, all of them her teen age cousin from the steading watch him from afar, whispering and giggling.
Later in the evening as Sandow makes his way to his room the familiar (now colored a silky black) slides into the room with him. as he turns from the basin to his bed Sandow is confronted by a beautiful woman with wavy black hair and enchanting eyes. "You do know familiars can change their shape right?"

After dinner Alaric will ask Finn for a few hands to help him at the forge. He'll then call Billie to run over a salve for Herne to rub on his leg. (Cure wounds). Once he has some farm hands he'll start working on Vrajitors sword. (If there is any leftover chitin from the portion I'm making Vrajitors sword with he will fashion as many arrow heads from it for Sandow).
Alaric will also infuse his armor with his smiths tools. Armor of tools allows him to add his intelligence modifier to any check that uses that required tool.
Belthran will accompany Alaric to the forge; though unskilled, he has some strength and offers cheer to Alaric and the assembled hands with tales of pirates and sea monsters.
Vor gently disengages the toddlers and will approach Finn; "Thank you for putting us up and tending our wounds. To that end, would you know if there is a cleric or priest in town? I am looking for guidance." With whatever may come of this discussion, Vor will listen and thank him for any information.
When he hears the call from Alaric, Vor excuses himself from Finn: "I will go and help them to rearm us so we may continue."
To Alaric and Belthran as the are leaving, "I will go as well. I'm desperate for a new great ax and will help however I can."
"You're free to join us Asvala but as for your Axe I need some more materials" Alaric says while plopping a slab of chitin on the work table. He then orders the farm hands to start warming the forge up while he starts drawing up a mold of the greatsword.
He says "I have an idea on how to get it though." Alaric finishes the mold and takes out a chisel and starts chipping away at it. He continues "In waterdeep our farmers have trouble with ankhegs because they burrow through the fields and eat their livestock. Also, general construction for infrastructure is always halted because the Ankhegs are sensitive to the tremors that come along with building. Quite a big problem for the council."
Alaric takes out the miner's pick from his bag of holding and starts chipping away some of the larger chunks of chitin. "Point is, we're going back anyways, so as long as you shake the ground more, I get more material, and you get your axe." "I can maybe make some armor for big guy over here" Alaric says pointing to Belthran.
Vrajitor will see if he can't find a straight yew tree that would make a good bow. If he does find one he will shape it and compress it (the idea is to make the springiness of the wood greater than normal, so much so that instead of a 150lb pull, it might be as high as 200 lbs), using Shape Wood, and then fire cure it.
"I would not mind getting some cartilage from that mammoth, as well as sinew, be useful in making a compound longbow I should think."
Vor gently disengages the toddlers and will approach Finn; "Thank you for putting us up and tending our wounds. To that end, would you know if there is a cleric or priest in town? I am looking for guidance." With whatever may come of this discussion, Vor will listen and thank him for any information.
"You are all welcome for as long as you like. and know that you will always find food and fire ready for you here whenever you are near" Finn replies. "there is a chapel to our lady Selune in the town, it has grown in popularity sine the darkness has fallen over the land."
Early the next day at breakfast Finn announces that his cousins Riles and Evan will be taking a wagon into town to get some supplies. and any who would like to go into town are more than welcome. they will be leaving within the hour.
> if there is a cleric or priest in town? I am looking for guidance
Belthran snorts at this, "The midday sun and the stars of a clear night will give you truer guidance than any of your fanciful gods; or the snout of a dragon just before it belches flame - that's good guidance to get out of the way!"
Seeing the wood that Vrajitor has returned with Herne comments. "Now that has excellent potential. You're in luck actually Dougan's hole has one of the finest bowyers in the North. with a couple weeks time he could make you something wonderfully powerful with this." The Ranger continues if you go into town with the others today ask for a man named Galvan, tell him Herne sends his regards and that I recommended him to you."

Bardic inspiration on Alaric.
