At the description, Book grunts. He tells the others out of earshot of the goblins, "This description sounds like the wizard for whom I was looking. But I wouldn't have expected this out of her. In honesty, my master sent me to reclaim her because he was worried that she would embarrass the Brotherhood or get herself killed. The impression he gave me was that she was not particularly talented and her skills, what little she had, were in divination." He shrugged, "It's possible something is masquerading as her, perhaps through her hardships here she has forged herself into something more powerful than she was before, or perhaps my master was wrong about her--though I doubt that was the case. It's also possible that my master sent me here to see which of us is the more powerful. Regardless, my preference would be not to kill her, though, I would not risk myself overmuch in her defense."
As he is waiting to hear the others' response, however he is distracted by the candle. "Hold on a moment, friend. May I examine that candle?"
The candle stub is as described in post #573. In his experience he knows that there are many magical candles in the world. this appears to be one of them.
OOC: During his long rest, Alaric will keep the infusions he has but will study Rowan's spellbook and draw up sketches of the find familiar spell for the spell wrought tattoo.

Syr Cygnus will regard the captives closely. How many of which kind are there: Just Gnolls or are there some Goblins in the mix? Are any of them ones she gave warning to from the previous encounter?
She will judge them as Tyr wills it.

While Syr Cygnus examines the prisoners, Book will alarm the area around the horses, drawing arcane runes in the snow every so often in a circle around the beasts while consulting his book and speaking short string of arcana. Once completed, he will return to inside the shed and sit down with the candle, again consulting his book, a large tome bound in red leather, chased with gold leaf and brass bindings. The leather shows much wear and age, but is still in good condition. Likewise, much of the gold leaf has worn off and the brass has mostly darkened with patina, but is still in good working order. On the cover, Book's personal sigil, five lines of different length sticking out of an upside down triangle, the fifth off at a slight angle to make the sigil appear to be a simplified handprint, inside two overlapping squares at right angles, all circumscribed by a circle.
He sits cross-legged, the book set on one knee, while in one hand he holds a large white pearl, and in the other he holds the candle, his attention going back and forth between the two. Despite not having the spell prepared, due to the unique variety of his training, he is able to identify the candle in a minute, though he will need to rest before he can do so again.
Syr Cygnus will say to each doomed creature, "For crimes beyond redemption you forfeit your life, in Tyr's name." and, with a mercifully swift thrust of a dagger through their ear into the brain, she will execute them.
She mentioned she had thought of flying them, bound, up to 100 meters or so, then dropping them, but decided that would not be fair to Sarang. Not to mention passing the buck, sort of.

The stub is from a Candle of Mystra. the magic is Alteration. When lit, time slows and by staring at the candle flame and concentrating, the full benefits of a long rest can be obtained in the time allocated for a short rest. the short rest must be uninterrupted for the effect to take place and it works for up to eight people sitting in a circular pattern covering the points of a compass(North, Northeast, East, Southeast, etc.). Each use burns the some of the candle away. The candle stub has four uses left.
Since the log bows are too big, Syr Cygnus will seek out a short bow, if there are any to be had. The she will take any watch necessary, resting the rest of the time, maybe writing in her journal, for a bit and, in the quietest hours, spend time in devotions, thanking Tyr for his mercy and justice and reaffirming her vows.

Alaric will be at the wagon preparing to go to the mine. He's eager to see where moxie and pepsi will lead us to.
He tells Vernon and Billie "When we get there I need you two to stay outside and keep an eye on where we enter from a distance. Make sure it's secure and if I'm not back within a day you are to take your horses and head back to the town. There you will find lodgings and await further instructions."
He'll take Vernon to the side and say "You know what to do if I do not return." Alaric will hand Vernon an envelope with his signet ring in it.

Moxie and Pepsi are awake early. Moxie has made himself at home gathering food and utensils to start breakfast of potatoes, bacon, biscuits, tea and hot apples with cinnamon.
While Pepsi is busy feeding and watering the horses with Billie. Surprisingly the Hobbit has no apparent fear of the Paladin's Hippogriff mount, bringing it fresh water and choice peices of bacon.
After Book finishes preparing his spells, which takes only a minute, he draws the hobbits aside. "We are, obviously, going to investigate the mines. I would appreciate everything you know about them, if there's anything else of which you haven't thought. For yourselves, you may take my mule back to town if you wish, or, you are welcome to stay with Billie and Vernon. They are the two we sheltered with in the shed. They are competent and brave, but not warriors. They will be staying with our horses and gear while we explore the mines.
If you wish to stay with us, I cannot promise your safety, but I promise you a fair share of whatever we make. I am not interested in money, except for its uses in progressing my art and benefitting those I value, so you have no fear that I will be stingy."

The hobbits listen to the words of the Wizard and then talk amongst themselves for a few minutes. Moxie says "We accept your offer Master Book. If it please you I will remain with Vernon and Billie guarding the wagon and Pepsi willl show you all the hidden entrance to the mine."
"It is agreed then." He says solemnly, extending his hands to the two. Standing, he says, "When we get back to civilization, remind me to get you some worthy cooking supplies."
Winterflame then goes to find Alaric, "My Lord, the two hobbits have elected to join us for now. They will remain with your men while we explore the mine. By the way, Did I see you looking at a spellbook earlier. If you would share that with me, I would be most appreciative."
So no one on watch?
