As Sarang would not do well in the mines, Syr Cygnus will have her remain behind and 'Guard' the rest of the party. OCC I am operating under the idea of a steed being trained to do simple tasks as that.
"I have something I'd like to try when we meet up with this 'wizard'," Syr Cygnus says to her companions. "It is called Command, and, if it is successful, they become compelled to do as I ask. I was thinking of using 'Approach' which would impel them to approach within 5' of me." Here she smiles in a fashion that would tend to make any who were in her bad graces to wish desperately they were someplace else. "They'll not be able to do aught except that so, if you here me yell out 'APPROACH' when they are in my sight and they come to me, do not attack them until I smite them lest you break they compulsion," she looks sharply at everyone. "Any questions about that?"

"If it comes to that, then I will not attack. But I would like to try to talk to her first before combat is joined. Her master wants her to return, though I won't stand in the way of justice if she is truly guilty of attacking us."
“If combat can be avoided, well and good, but still they must answer for the needless mayhem and murder that has been done.” Syr Cygnus seems pretty firm on that point.

"If that is the case, then I agree. But, to be fair, we only have the word of these gnoll and goblin brigands--given under duress--that this is what's going on."
While everyone is making final preparations for the mine assault Pepsi goes to Alaric. “Milord, we should leave the wagon and the rest here.” He continues “the mine entrance is only a mile away but the spot that me and Moxie came out on is about 2 miles up and the overland trek is over stony terrain for the last mile or so.”
After a few minutes of slow careful movement through the wooded foothils, Pepsi approaches a gnarled tangle of dead mulberry. Pepsi carefully manuevers into it and reveals a man sized cave entrance. those looking around see empty bottles and the faded smell of tobacco "Some of us used to come out here for a smoke and such."
In a low voice, Syr Cygnus addresses Pepsi, "What lies beyond? Where would this 'wizard' most likely be, hunting this gem? Do you know aught of the number of other foe within yon tunnels?" She looks to the others, "Have we rope and other climbing equipment? Some light source?"

Pepsi responds "There is a short passage thet leads to a storage area and then a latrine. after that the passageways and railpassags that lead to the lower mines. ai dont know about the other stuff too much. lots of Goblins and wolves, some Gnolls but not as many as Gobbos."
Alaric will say "We should focus on finding Belthran first. If this wizard is as powerful as that goblin said then we'll need all the help we can get. Do you know where newly captured prisoners would be pepsi?"
Alaric will shake his utility belt a few times and flick the middle. Using Magical Tinkering he'll infuse the belt with light (5ft)

"No Sir, sorry. I mean we were all prisoners there. if he's a Goliath maybe they have him doing heavy lifting."
"Keep far enough back that any lights don't interfere with my night vision." Sandow wants to stay just outside of any light source so his elf-gained vision won't give him away. He's going to stealth it, stop at intervals for the party to catch up, then continue on in this fashion.
The cave are (actually more of a small cavern) continued into the mountain side until the natural cavern formed into a man sized tunnel. apparently miners cut into the cavern, realized thier mistake and sealed it off. later, other miners reopened it and without telling the bosses, used it as a break area, as could be witnessed by the increased number of empty bottles and cheesecloth wrappers littering the ground.
Soon the sound of work could be heard and Sandow can smell the odor of man sweat. turning a corner he can see into a passageway where several men and a huge orc are working on transferring dirt from one cart to another. the men all have ropes tying then the large orc has a heavy chain. there are six goblin guards with spears watching them.
Sandow pauses to get a complete count of both miners and task masters, noting their weapons, and looks for any sort of alarm system (like a bell or gong for instance). He looks for exits from the room as well. When he's satisfied that he has the lay of the land, he'll slink back to the party and report what he's seen.

"Its down there." Pepsi points to the cave. Sandow heads into the cave.
With mace and shield at the ready, Syr Cygnus will follow Sandow. "If ye wish to move ahead furtively, say so and I'll fall back a bit."

Sandow takes the point soon followed by Syr, Book, Alaric, and Pepsi.

The Goblins have Spears and scimitars. their attention is loose and relaxed.
Alaric will ask Sandow "You think we can sneak in close enough to the guards to engage them but also cut them off?"
