She'll be silent for a bit, but will then cast levitate on herself and make herself taller than the goliath. She's holding in her giggles.
various patrons stare in wonderment- some give a sign and move away quickly- others simply leave after staring at both the Goliath and the little girl. several children do smile and wave, until their parents move them on their way.
> Lily will ask Belthran if she can ride atop his shoulders
Belthran's discomfort with this is palpable. Nonetheless, he plays the role of "uncle" with commendable forbearance, before making his excuses that he must prepare for his performance.
After an evening performance by Belthran, A tall Tiefling man in armor approaches the groups table and introduces himself as Captain Skaath, Commander of the local forces. Sandow Can easily see that several of the "Captains" Henchmen are spread thr oughout the crowded tavern. "There has been talk all over town of a Knight of the south and her flying mount has arrived in our humble town and brought with her a Goliath Bard and a young Sorceress?" He reaches back as a chair is made available to him by a patron who quickly makes himself scarce. "I wonder if I may join you all for a few moments to see if there is any way that the Government of Targo's could be of assistance?
"We are humbled to make your acquaintance, good Captain", greets Belthran, the sincerity in his voice not matching his sentiment. His brow is glistening with beads of perspiration from his animated - and somewhat colourfully augmented - telling of a saga where patricide, betrayal, murder and dragons all featured strongly. "And grateful of your kind offer; though truth be known, we are only here to resupply and enjoy an evening or so of the hospitality your fine township has to offer."

"And grateful of your kind offer; though truth be known, we are only here to resupply and enjoy an evening or so of the hospitality your fine township has to offer."
"I see." The tiefling says rather crisply. he sits for a moment studying each of you. "Well I suppose I shall leave you all to enjoy your evening." He rises from his seat. "By the way, where perchance is your...troop headed next?"
Once the party gathers together again, Sandow says "I've made contacts with some useful persons in the city that trade in information. A few gold coins passing hands and I have some idea of the whereabouts of our Witch. A strange woman who fits the description visited both the mayor and commander. The rumor is that she was seen with the commander heading to his family estate—interestingly though, his family estate hasn't been in use for at least 5 generations. Perhaps we should pay it a visit?"
With her face and hands smeared with food, (she doesn't dine in that often) Lilith looks up at Sandow and says "Tomorrow please." She's clearly full and very tired.
She'll wipe her hands and face and will move her seat next to krusk when she's done eating. Lily will show krusk the 2 new husk dolls she's made. One that resembles him and a half done Cygnus. She'll spend the rest of dinner working on the Cygnus doll and starting a Book doll.
Book observes the interaction with the tiefling captain with a neutral expression as he finishes his meal, feeding the choicest morsels to Noctua, sitting on his shoulder. In contrast to Lily, Book is fastidious to keep his hands clean for fear of soiling his spellbook's pages. When he is finished he whispers a prestidigitation to be sure his hands are fully clean, and to clean any stains from his robes--not attempting to hide the casting of the spell, merely being polite so as not to interrupt conversation.
Book's "watcher's eye" giving him a suspicion that this Captain Skath was not a simple representative of the government. Remembering Sandow's warnings about the Zhentarim having a foothold in Targos, he suspects that might be the connection. He had occasional run-ins with the Zhent in Luskan as a city watchman. While he had not been corrupt or able to be bribed, he knew there were places it was wiser not to stick your nose in, and things it was better not to know. So, unless Captain Skath seemed likely to give them trouble, Targos' problems were not Book's problems. He made two mental notes, however. Firstly, to talk to Pepsi and Moxie about keeping a low profile and being safe. Secondly, this felt like it might be the kind of interaction where Skath would walk away and they would be ambushed going to their rooms or first thing in the morning attempting to set off. He suspected they could avoid it, but Syr Cygnus wouldn't run from a fight if she knew it was there. Paladins, he thought to himself with an exasperated sigh.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Syr Cygnus, as she makes her rounds doing deeds in Tyr's name, will carefully question folk about the doings of the Zhentarim; how they are acting around town, who they seem to be beholding to, what it is that they are working toward and for whom, etc, and so forth. She will only ask such questions to folk who come across as forthright and honest in their dealings with her, not broaching the subject with any who smack of corruption; And she has a pretty good nose for that, at least one would think so. (OCC We hope)
The few folks that actually connect with Syr Cygnus have simply no knowledge of any Zhent activities in the area. their opinion of the mayor and commander of the militia are both stern yet effective at their jobs.

"In the absence of any other leads, it seems our best course of action", Belthran agrees after some consideration. "However, I bet that jumped-up guardsman will be expecting, probably hoping, we do something to give him cause to intervene. We need a distraction, or perhaps a cunning plan to foil his trap. The simplest option might just be to pretend to leave town in the other direction, then circle back around a day or so later. I don't suppose you picked up a map, Sandow? Or you, Book?"
"Where is this Commander's place in relation to Targos and the coast?" Syr Cygnus asks. "I don't recall hearing anything about it. I would suggest, if possible, we head in the opposite direction as Belthan suggests, backtracking might een lets us catch any spies sent to find out what we're really up to. I wouldn't mind finding out who might be helping that witch, and why." She idly flips her mace, which seems to have an o so faint glow about it when seen from the corner of one's eye, from and to hand without really paying much attention to her actions.

Belthran spends some time getting acquainted with his new steed, the magnificent Ragnahild II. His saddlebags are packed and, like the knight, is chaffing at the bit to be on the move. There is no glory to be had in recounting other men's deeds in some common inn (no matter how fabulous a storyteller he might be).
Book looks up from the arcane grimoire of his spellbook and nods. He drops the black feathered quill his had been writing with, which disappears into the aether before touching the ground as he resituates his book at his side. "I admit, I hadn't thought to look for a map of the area. I can check with Pepsi or Moxie to see if they happened to pick one up with the supplies." He adjusts his heavy fur-lined winter robe.
"But I am ready to go. I agree with you both; heading in the 'opposite' direction to throw off the scent is likely a good idea. I don't trust this Captain. I suspect Zhentarim involvement. He appears to wish to maintain at least the appearance of propriety, however, which suggests that he may be waiting until we're away from Targos before attacking us. Or," Book shrugs, "he may be exactly as he presents himself, and is simply concerned we'll bring unwanted danger into his town. Either way, it doesn't hurt to be sharp."
Moxie did in fact have the wherewithal to pickup an area map. basically a travellers map of Ten Towns and the surrounding area but good enough for Sandow to apply the inforfamtion me gained to pinpoint thearea where the Manor would be. After bidding farewell to Krusk who is returning to the mountains the party heads on its way.
Syr Cynus will lead from a vertically orthogonal position, ready to deliver grimness from above if need be, but serving as point, broadly speaking, but it must be keep in mind her discernment of fine details like poison stake mantraps is a bit limited. So Belthan should probably be better situated to handle those sorts of circumstances, should the need arise of course.

Belthran considers such frivolous use of magic unseemly and makes a note to get Book to talk to her about it.
