"Nope! Can't see anything in these dark and frozen lands. But, I am currently working on a way to remedy that for myself."
[Action] As they are out looking for Herne, Alaric will use his Infuse Item trait and swap out his Alchemy Jug with Goggles of the night.
Description: Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch a nonmagical object and imbue it with one of your artificer infusions, turning it into a magic item. An infusion works on only certain kinds of objects, as specified in the infusion’s description. If the item requires attunement, you can attune yourself to it the instant you infuse the item.
Sandow suddenly stiffens and looks terrified. "Are....these beasts smart enough to create a distraction? Our horses would be a more substantial meal would they not? We need to aid Herne, but someone should warn the rest of our party as well."
"Crap, crap, crap!" Vrajitor says viciously. "Had there been only one I would have tried to save Herne, or find out whether he is dead; but more than one would probably be the end of us, unless we got really, really lucky. We need more help if we wanna do that, at a minimum we need a two to one advantage an you and I ain't that. Topping that off is the fact that he was being dragged, which suggests he was dead or dying. Crap, crap, crap! We best head back and let everyone know, see if we can come up with something." He looks out in the direction the drag marks go, "I do not hold out much hope."
He looks at Sandow, 'We best go and get help," and starts heading back.

As several of you are eating and talking by the fire with krombeck’s watchful eyes looking from the ridge above for the return of Sandow and the others, you begin to hear an unsettling amongst the mules and horses. Suddenly Belthran exclaims “Wolves!”
Rowan casts mage armor and backs away on herself and back away from the wolves.
Belthran casts vicious mockery on the closest wolf, though getting a good look at one is difficult in the fire light. He senses no reaction; chances are his spell was wasted on a shadow. In frustration he does manage to sound his horn.
The wolves charge in towards the camp growling and snapping but stop short of actually entering the camp. The eyes of the company glued on them. When suddenly the screams of the horses could be heard above the horn, the howling, and the incessant barking. They are attacking the horses!
Vor attacks the closest wolf with a thrown axe. The flying axe embeds itself in the wolfs skull killing it instantly. (natural 20).
Alaric puts on his goggles of night as he yells to Vernon and Billie to find somewhere to hide. He then readies his pistol and waits. They quickly comply diving into the wagon.
At the top of the ridge Krombeck, on watch, snuggles deeper into his warm cold weather blanket and dreams of apple pies fresh out of the bakery oven.
Rowan casts fire bolt on the nearest wolf. Her bolt flies true and strikes a wolf, igniting it’s fur and sending it howling away in the night. The Wizard then stands her ground eyeing more targets.
Belthran urges Vor to the horses, telling him and old maxim regarding wolves and equines to inspire the Barbarian to save the precious mounts. He then casts light on his shield, illuminating the attacking wolves and hopefully distracting them.
A wolf hurls itself at Vor but misses the Genasi. The other wolves down two of the horses and begin a feeding frenzy ripping chunks of meat from the screaming mounts, one wolf does down as the Goliath’s horse crushes it’s skull before being swarmed by the starving wolves.
Vor will wonder where Krombeck is as he begins to move towards the horses and mules. He stops suddenly as he feels a strong tug and sees a wolf tearing at his fur lined coat. In a panic the Barbarian instantly recalls the words of the druid of hid tribe used to start the holy fires. Sure enough the animals snout is wreathed in flame and it releases the Genasi.
Alaric hurls himself aboard the wagon that holds his awestruck attendants and brings his pistol to bear. Ready to defend his house, but a clear shot eludes him.

As Vrajitor moves along he will be keeping a sharp eye out for anything untoward, and he'll try and keep a good pace up.
"Winter Wolves! That is not a good sign, their being out and about this close to towns." He glances at Sandow, "Do you know anything about them? I was just thinking, goblins .. Winter Wolves; I have heard rumors of goblins teaming up with wolves and orcs with worgs, but about these creatures...."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
As Rowan tries to back away from the wolves, she trips over one of the ropes used for the tent. As she falls forward her horns accidentally stab a mule. The mule’s reaction is a swift powerful kick that crushes the Tiefling’s skull, scattering bone and brain all over the white snow.
With a blood-curdling shout of anger, Belthran attacks a wolf with his black-handled longsword but misses. He finds himself fighting three of the ravenous beasts, luckily his glowing shied seems to protect him well enough, as none of the wolves’ attacks on him hit their mark.
At the sound of the horses and the wolves frenzy, Vor rages, charges, and attempts to bring his great axe down on one of the wolves, but the wolves manage to avoid his cuts as he yells to Belthran "We can save them together!"
Since Alaric can't get a clear shot, he tells his servants to stay put. They both nod as they nervously wipe Tiefling blood and brains from their clothes. Alaric jumps off the wagon and moves back to the campfire. The area appears clear of wolves except where the two Barbarians are busy slaying them.
Belthran swings his longsword and delivers a solid hit to a wolf. then smashes his glowing shield into it to shove it away.
The remaining two wolves on Belthran attack one manages a nasty bite, but their attempts to bowl over the Goliath are fruitless.
Shoulder to shoulder with Belthran, the raging Vor attacks a wolf and buries his great axe in the wolfs head killing it.
Alaric pivots around the southern tent and shoots the nearest wolf in an attempt to draw attention from the horses. One shot, one kill, and the wolf goes down.
In the bloody aftermath both Alaric and Belthran lost their mounts . The Tiefling Mage perished, the Halfing Ranger vanished, and Belthran suffered a bad bite to his right leg.
your rewards are four wolf pelts, of which only three are useable.
Belthran is torn between anguish at the loss of Ragnhild and ire at their sleeping watchkeeper and the errant party members that strayed beyond earshot of the agreed horn call. He tries in vain to revive the fallen mage; when the futility of this task overcomes him, he begins collecting rocks to build a burial cairn for the fallen tiefling and animals. His face is grim with determination for bloody vengeance.
Once the task is complete, he stands arms outstretched and tilts his head to the skies. “This is not finished! Their legend will live on, so help me, carried by the thrust of my blade, carried on the wing of dragon, carried across the lands of men and giants.” Tears run freely down the Goliath’s face.
"What in the Nine Hells happened here?" Vrajitor asks as he surveys the mess being taken care of. Seeing the wolf carcasses he shakes his head, "Blast, I should have thought that this darkness was, and is, going to be bringing out things that are hungry. Well, now we have been warned. Herne is lost to us now, taken by Winter Wolves, ; which means the camp was fortunate not have had to deal with a pack of them," his tone is grim indeed. "We will need to stick closer together, no one should be going anywhere alone and our first priority, at the moment, is ensuring the well being of our stock, we can defend ourselves, they can not and we need them to haul or supplies. This place is unforgiving."
