Qinfaren calls the giant badger, weasel and badger over from where they were watching the party's back and ushers them into the room. Once everyone is inside, he closes the door behind them so they can investigate the room in peace.
"Well that went better this time," Qinfaren says. "Though I suppose their father will be angry when he finds out about his two sons."
Not wanting to waste time, Qinfaren starts searching the room for anything useful, looking under the bed, through drawers, closets or anything else in the room.
Qinfaren searches the room and finds that among the various heads mounted on the wall are a crag cat, a grick, a male drow, a kuo-toa, a troglodyte, a wolf, a pertyon and a female grimlock.
Then Qinfaren discovers a trunk which holds a ceramic jug of wine, a drinking horn, and a rolled-up piece of leather bearing a charcoal sketch of a female duergar.

“The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules.” ― Gary Gygax
Qinfaren shakes his head as he notes the mounted heads. "This was not a good person."
He looks back to his two companions and the three furry ones.
"Well, I suppose we can use the elevator contraption and go either up or down. Sounds like the father will be down."
Qinfaren thinks for a few moments.
"I can use some of the energy of the ground around us to make it harder to see or hear us. Perhaps once we start in the elevator that would be helpful."
Bjorn shakes his head, "I think it would be best to save our magic for when we need it most."
Then looking at the elevator, Qinfaren finds that it is a box-shaped iron cart. It constantly moves up and down the shift, stopping for a minute on each floor. Then it takes approximately another minute for it to move from one level to the next. An iron gate on the west side of the cage slides open automatically when the cart arrives at a level. The elevator shaft, made from stone, is ten-foot-wide and it seems that the level above and below are 100 feet in either direction.

"Not dependable for a quick retreat," Bàn notes due to the length of time it takes to go where it is going. "Blocking the doors from closing might be handy but that in itself could draw attention to us... Guess we'll just have to risk it."
“At least the sound of it won’t attract any notice. Looks like it’s constantly in motion.
Qinfaren waits for the elevator to have come down from upstairs and then guides the three animals on board, following after them and making room for the other two.
With everyone on board the elevator, the group is lowered down into the depths of the fortress. The elevator shaft terminates in a mostly empty room. A large stone wheel next to the iron cage turns constantly can be spotted. West of the wheel is a duergar encased in a cruel-looking exoskeletal construct, his face a mask of pain.
Does he notice us? If there is the opportunity Bán would like to grab the others and pull them on the other side of the elevator in order to try to stay unseen by this duergar until we decide on a course of action...

Qinfaren, quickly and quietly, concentrates on the mistletoe wrapped around his staff, whispering a quiet word as he does. Suddenly noise around Bjorn, Bán, himself and the three animals is muffled.
Casts Pass Without Trace and then moves quietly to the side away from the duergar with the animals (Stealth: 24 )
The group carefully creeps out of the elevator to the opposite side of the shaft. However, there is only one exit out of the room and sneaking out without the duergar spotting anyone would be nearly impossible.
“He’s a very angry looking person. Maybe he would just like a friendly person to talk to?” Qinfaren suggests. “Why don’t we pretend to be friendly emissaries from Grandolpha and maybe we can just walk by?”

Bàn unleashes an eldritch bolt against the previously captured Durth which strikes him in the chest.
Then Bjorn fires an arrow striking the duergar in the shoulder. Blut tries to follow up with a bit, but Durth dodges out of the way.
Finally, Qinfaren throws a flame at Durth burning him, and causing the duergar to fall to the floor. Collapsing from the fight.

Bàn will stay at the door with it open just a crack so he can peek out and give a listen in case there is anyone nearby...

"You would know better than I if it would help with the contraption or not," Bàn responds. "But I guess we head down?"
"Don't think it would hide the noise of the elevator, but hopefully it's moving all the time and no one takes much notice of it."
Qinfaren leads his three furry friends over to the elevator room, taking a look to see if there's anything complicated about operating the machine.
