(A frightened creature has disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls while the source of its fear is within line of sight. The creature can't willingly move closer to the source of its fear. Pulled from conditions on a character sheet. So as long as it was in melee already, could still attack.)
((OOC: I don't think Frightened stops you from attacking. It gives you disadvantage on attacks and it stops you moving closer to the source. If the Sentry was already 5ft in front of Xerrinos, it should still be able to attack him I think))
ooc: Yes, that's the text but, first, it boggles the mind that you could still attack the object of your terror IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO. Second, during an attack you're most likely moving toward the subject in some fashion. That's how I've always run it. But I'm not the DM :)

(( Yeah I really don't like the Fear condition for a number of different reasons. Still I was just saying the RAW and I think the DM gets the final say on weather or not the Returned should be able to attack Xerrinos so let's just wait to see what they say. I will take my turn a bit later because DnD Beyond is being weird and I can't see my character sheet))
(I am allowing him to attack even the one he is frightened of, as long as he doesn't have to use his movement to get closer to them. Since he is already within 5 feet, the attack stands.)
Not going to wait for more actions as Kanlos himself will take down the returned with that shot.
Kanlos takes a moment to place a coin in the mouth of the returned, for his second journey to the afterlife, the ghouls he figures were nothing more than walking corpses, not lives. When he's finished, he moves over to join the others, "Well, at least we've been able to send one back without too much incident. Shall we see what she wants?"

Xerronios nods, though the blood dripping from his wounds tells of his major concern. As they follow the woman, he says quietly, "Klothys, Lady of Fate, heal thy servant."
Glancing to Windlass. "I was not expecting you, no." She says with a shake of her head. "Your actions is what prompted me to make my request."
She leads you back to her inn.
She is Katina Dimea (she/her, CG female human priest) and is the mortal representative and innkeeper of the island. In gratitude for rescuing the merchants, she offers free room for the party as long as they stay on the island. After bringing them food and drinks, Katina first explains the nature of Armonía and how mortals and the Return co-exist there peacefully. A place where mortals and the Returned peacefully co-exist. It is a bountiful island rich with natural resources that welcomes travelers to come and trade their wares. The Returned that escape from the Underworld and live here primarily consist of former laborers, farmers, and merchants—working class people who only want to resume what they did when they were alive and continue to put their skills to work. The mortals who live here hope that their Returned neighbors are people who are connected to their own pasts: former family members, friends, and colleagues. They attempt to identify the he is Returned by recognizing distinctive traits in their crafts. These residents respect the undead and only wish to live in a world of peace. They often serve as a proxy to the other islands as a way to protect the Returned from those who believe they are abominations. "However," she notes, "over the past month many of the Returned have been disappearing. Groups of undead creatures attack in the middle of the night and kidnap islanders, most of whom are either the Returned or mortals who once were capable fighters. The attack in the marketplace was the first to happen in broad daylight. I have spoken to other residents and discovered a dark cloaked figure has been spotted going in and out of a cave at the north of the island." She eyes up the group of you. "Since there are no warriors remaining," she says, "Will you find and put an end to the source of these attacks? I can offer you 500 gold as payment."
Kanlos turns to the others, "I'm sure Athreos would prefer we put a stop to those that would use the undead in this fashion, the gold and a chance to resupply are both good as well though."

Xerronios nods thoughtfully. "Yes," he says slowly, speaking softly and drawing the others a bit away. "that is good but it seems to me that there is more at work here, more that we are not seeing, not being shown. Klothys has little care for Returned, for they as a group play no particular part in the Skein of Fate. Yet so many in one place. Are the walls separating our realm from the realm of the dead especially thin on this island? Is something...or someone aiding their return. We must tread carefully here, my friends."
He turns to the woman, eyeing, judging her honesty.

"How long is it to this cave?" he asks in normal tone.
Io agrees with Kanlos, "To use undead for evil like this, I am sure displeases Athreos. It may be worth it to at least investigate the issue a bit further. Perhaps we could scout and also walk around the island to see for ourselves what is happening here?"
Xerronios, you get the sense the woman is being honest with you.
Katina nods. "Feel free to look around, talk to the islanders, and be welcome here." She says. Turning to Io, the cave is two hours travel north from here. Most of the land is easy to travel, so there should not be any obsticles in arriving there, unless more of those like you fought in the market are about." She nods towards Windlass. "If you have such scouts, I would advise using them as you can."
Io asks the woman, "Have you had any visitors lately. Firstly any new visitors that arrived right before the undead started to attack? And also have you been visited by a woman? About this tall, covered from head to toe?"
Katina frowns and looks to Io. "To tell the truth we don't get too many visitors. Most are unnerved by the returned living here, so steer wide. We are a peaceful place, normally, so it would be nice to get more in the way of people who can put aside their feelings about the returned to come here more often." She looks at Io a bit more directly when asked specificly about a woman traveler. "No, I cannot say I have heard of anyone like that coming through. I would not get too worried about this, if this is someone important to you, as few ships would stop here if they have a choice." She looks a bit frustrated as she admits this last.
Ok, anyone doing anything else before I move this on towards the North of town, and towards the cave? Someone mentioned scouting with a pet or familiar, is that still wished for? Are there any supplies you wish to get prior to heading out?
Io does seem disheartened to know that his target was not here and thus he is worried that he might have veered off the trail left by the woman. Putting aside his own frustrations in favor of focusing on the more immediate problem at hand, if for no other reason than get back on the see faster, Io asks, "What do you think might be causing the sudden attacks then?" He asks mainly the woman but also looks to his companions for their possible theories on the matter.

DnD Beyond is now letting me see my Character Sheets again so here's Io's turn.
Io Bonks the returned on the head with his War Hammer.
War Hammer: 20 Dmg: 8 Bash

The fight is over.
a middle-aged woman approaches the party and says...
Heroes! Please come join me at my inn. There is something urgent I must discuss with you.”

Windlass steps forward. "You were expecting us? Or you desire to converse because we provided a final solution to this particular conflict?"
She's fine to move along, but asks her questions anyway.

Windlass suggests that someone’s animal familiar could go scout out the cave first to see what’s there.
Io agrees with Kanlos, "To use undead for evil like this, I am sure displeases Athreos. It may be worth it to at least investigate the issue a bit further. Perhaps we could scout and also walk around the island to see for ourselves what is happening here?"
