"Clearance granted." drolls the station control officer. "You may proceed." You set the approach vector and carefully dock your Lambda-class shuttle on the station. You make a mental note to yourselves to come back and fetch your craft once the infiltration mission is over.
The station is a typical space station with amenities you'd expect - like shopping, entertainment, and bars. Certain decks are off limits, like Imperial Government, Garrison Troops, and other Imperial offices. The vast majority of the station is open and boasts only light security in the form of cameras, mechanical locks, and the occasional bored Imperial Navy patrol.
WHAT'S NEXT? Your first priority is to head directly to your contact, Paask. You're not exactly sure where to find him, but you have some idea. Go ahead and make an (Easy - 1 Purple) Streetwise or Knowledge (Underworld) check, or an (Average - 2 Purple) Knowledge (Outer Rim) check.
It only takes a few keystrokes for Lili to have their map up, and after ten minutes of a couple exchanges and looking things up to have Paask's location.
Null boards the station wearing a drab, generic workers smock so he blends in as the ho-hum everyday-Joe-trader that are a dime a dozen in these parts. His Mandalorian armor is quite dinged up from years of battle use (inherited from his missing father), so he definitely plays the ‘down on his luck’ schmuck who’s working to put food on the table.
Unseen to others, though, his data display inside his helmet is showing the station map that Lili managed to hack and provide, highlighting the directions to Paask as well as the known locations of guard stations, surveillance cameras, etc.
He’s lugging a large sack filled with assorted junk that he managed to collect from the shuttle. Spare parts, trash, and sundry other useless goods to make it appear like he’s here to trade....all hiding his precious blaster from view.
"As always.."Emma says to Liri, "..your ability of target acquisition is most impressive. Or, you're lucky as hell."
Emma looked around. She was wearing enough work clothing that she did indeed look like somewhat of a trader, and definitely not like a rebel or Imperial, though.
"This station must be very remote. Even the guards are lax. I am surprised that the Empire doesn't have more of a presence here. But, then again, why would they."
She placed an earbud in her right ear and turned on her audio baux.
EPISODE ONE - MARTEL STATION
The Trandoshan known as Paask runs a threadbare curiosities shop in what is considered to be Martle Station's urban center, on the third level. The station's citizenry - of which there were nearly two thousand - consisted primarily of shiphands, dockworkers, and station support staff, as well as the civilian businesspeople and employees who kept them fed and entertained.
Lili led you all to a shop called Passk's Oddities.
As the door slides open on a squeaky track, a melodic chime can be heard. BINGLE DINGLE LING. The smell of old paper and dust fills your nostrils as you are confronted with countless shelves stacked with all manner of junk. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you see a somewhat short and middle-aged Trandoshan approaching you. With a smile, he says, "Welcome to Passk's Oddities, my friends. What can Passk do for you on this fine day?"
Zalv came onto the station with the others, his heavy clothing and features covered by a spacer-poncho that he often donned to avoid excess attention. Still, it was hard to completely hide his large, built frame even with a poncho. After a few missions, he opted to just own it and act like the team's muscle/guard detail, keeping up the rear and making sure that no one tried anything funny with his teammates.
When the group entered Passk's Oddities, the scent of old tomes and paper, took him back to those days back in the temple library. So much knowledge....lost. A light tickle of rage trickled up from his gut, but Zalv was used to it with such memories. He took a deep breath and released, letting it die back down. In his mind he recited the Jedi Code,
Once he calmed down, and as long as no one else appeared to be aiming to speak, Zalv would pull down his hood and bow his head slightly, "Greetings. We share mutual friends I believe? They told us to speak with you regarding an item in your inventory. They said you labelled it as M226 ."
"Ah, yes!"Passk grinned. "I believe we can do business. Please, follow me."
He closes the business and ushers you into his office. It's a crappy looking office, and it's cramped, but it's private enough to talk. Emma winced. "It's stuffy in h-"
"In order to gain access to M226, you're going to have to complete three tasks in any order you please. I would use extreme judgement in how you act and behave, as we are, after all, on an Imperial station. If things get too out of hand for you, or if you act in a very obvious manner, your action could attract Imperial attention and have the convoy possibly diverted and your mission will be a failure. That being said, here are the tasks you must complete."
TASK ONE - STATION COMMAND AND CONTROL The computer systems of Martle Station's command and control center contain information regarding incoming shipments and convoys. Gaining access to the command center, however, is another matter entirely. Head to Command and Control and perform the following tasks:
1. First, you'll need to locate the Command and Control center aboard the station. (Easy - 1 Purple) Streetwise check. 2. Next, you'll need to get in through a side entrance. There's side entrances that can be accessed. (Hard - 3 Purple) Skullduggery check. 3. Once inside, find a computer and get those files. (Hard - 3 Purple) Computers check.
Success in all three steps will complete the task. Threat or Despair generated in any step will have consequences.
TASK TWO - THE IMPERIAL GOVERNOR Drunk, bored, and surprisingly attractive for an older woman, Imperial Governor Varla Prule is as corrupt as they come. Most of her time is spent drinking in the most expensive bar aboard the station, Governor Prule can provide docking schedules, work rosters, and other relatively mundane reports that shed additional light on the Perlemian Haul's schedule in the Remduba system. Known to prefer younger, attractive men, she loves bribes, and this task will be a contest of Charm, Deception, or Negotiation. Whoever is chosen to speak, you will make three rolls and try to score as many successes you can by the end of three rounds in an attempt to bring her asking price for the information as low as possible. Make sure you all dress the part. They don't let scum into this place.
TASK THREE - FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES In order to get on board M226, you'll need to act like and know how to cargo haul. There's no better way than to get a job aboard the station and learn how it's done. Then, armed with this knowledge, you'll know how to get on board. You'll have to get a job as a civilian shiphand or dockworker. However, being employed on Martle Station itself is dangerous. The dockworkers are affiliated with specific workgangs that bid for contracts and occasionally fight among themselves in order to secure paying work in the stations cargo bays. If you can survive long enough for the convoy to arrive in the Remduba system, you should have little trouble gaining access to M226.
This will be a combat encounter. You'll need to survive a number of rounds to prove you're not to be ****ed with. Then, and only then, will you learn the ropes and know enough to board the M226 as dockworkers.
DECIDE WHICH TASK TO PERFORM FIRST. DO NOT ROLL YET.
Lili nibbles her lip. "Station Command sounds right up my alley. But I definitely don't think we should split up. We can start with the docks and move on from there, provided we survive the docks." You can't quite tell if she's joking on that last part.
Emma almost laughed. "Oh, that's encouraging. Provided we survive, she said. Who's got the mechanics skills to patch ME up when I get my tin can ass kicked in like an empty bucket? Hm? I'm an emergency medical robot not some hand to hand brawler like..."she looked at you all, as if she couldn't decide which one to pick."..none of you."
Amelia laughs, "Emma, I'm sure Lilli or Null could put you back together easy enough. Let's get jobs at the docks, what's the worst that could happen? Especially with Null and Zalv beside us." She sidles up beside Lilli and whispers, "This'll be just like the time we 'tripped' into those drek-head officers-in-training at the academy, eh?"
Lili giggles at the memory. "Oh, that was a good one. Those ******** never saw it coming." She grins at the others. "We'll be fine. Emma, I can patch you up if you take some damage, don't worry."
"Very well."Emma agreed."However, I would like to point out that I have seen Null's handiwork. The good news is, if we take the job at the docks to learn how to..dock and stuff, there is a small chance I will enjoy watching you get your asses kicked."She paused for a moment, before adding, "Of course, for medical reasons. For SCIENCE!"
Zalv chuckles and pats Emma on the head, "Thanks for worrying about us Em. We'll do our best to make sure we don't get hurt. I'm less worried about Null, but if any of the rest of you get into a tumble, call one of us over, okay?" Zalv gives the group a worried look as he speaks.
"Your confidence is not convincing. You humans are so easily seen through."she plainly states.
FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES
(QUICK CINEMATIC SCENE SWITCH TO THE CARGO BAYS, CLOSEUP OF EMMA GETTING PUNCHED IN THE FACE WITH A LOUD "PSSSH!!")
Emma sprawled to the floor. In a circle, the dockworkers had us surrounded like monkey in the middle, yelling, cheering. Ten of them in a tight circle.
"Ow!" said the brawny dockhand, shaking his fist. "That hurt! What the ****?"
Emma struggled to get back up, glaring at him. "Yes, that's because i'm a droid, you idiot."
"Think you can take our jobs?! Gettum!!" one of the other dockworkers shouted, and in an instant, they were upon us with fists and kicks. We realized we had to match suit, or risk breaking our cover. If we could tough our way through this fight, we'd have enough respect to be shown the ropes. If they knocked us all out, we'd be in big trouble.
Each gang group, which includes two dockworkers each with three soak and four health, will engage one of you each. I will indicate who is engaged with whom below. For example, Gang3, who is first up, will be tussling with Emma, poor thing. She's a doctor, not a pit fighter. Then, we will progress down the initiative track. Since you are on the clock trying to state your claim for continued employment, there are no weapons allowed in this encounter. Survive three rounds and you'll be deemed tough enough and no longer an interest to the work gangs anymore to be troubled with, and will be able to learn the ropes of the job to be able to pretend you're actual dockworkers and board M226.
Since you are all "Engaged" all melee attacks are (Average - 2Purple) in Difficulty and you make an attack by rolling Brawl with damage at: Brawn + Successes - Target's Soak, a critical rating of 5, and the qualities of:
Disorient 1: Disorient can daze an opponent. When Disorient is triggered, the target is disoriented for a number of rounds equal to the weapon's Disorient rating. (A disoriented target adds a setback die all skill checks he performs.) Knockdown: When knockdown triggers, the target is knocked prone. Unless specified otherwise, Knockdown requires an advantage to trigger, plus one additional Advantage per silhouette of the target beyond one. If someone attacks a prone target, you add a boost die to your pool.
You can trigger one of these, or both, by spending 2 Advantage each.
Gang3 dog piles Emma, one of them getting a solid hit in her gut. She grunts and takes the blow! She's not wearing any armor that's conspicuous so she has 2 soak, and takes 3 wounds - down to 9 health.
Zalv goes to strike at a man, but gets caught up in a grapple contest, resulting in both him and the other man pushing off each other after a fierce exchange that did no damage.
