Velshir’s battle stance relaxes, mostly in some consternation.
“You are in control of those....things?”
Pulling himself together, Velshir introduces himself. “I am called Velshir, and these are my friends Prentiss and Loren. We have come on behalf of the townsfolk of Phandolin, acting on reports of undead in the area. It seems we have found the undead. May I ask what is your purpose in this area, and what are your intentions to the folk of Phandolin?”
He presses his fingertips together and gazes back at Velshir for a long moment. "Yes. Phandalin is of no interest to me. " He looks back over the damage done to the first seven Zombies and is quiet again for another long moment. "You look like a capable group, you must need something. Maybe we could help each other?" You hear mild groans, shuffles and unnerving squishing sounds as the Zombies continue to shamble around as you speak.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Prentiss positions himself away from the zombies (in case the rotters are shambling over in his direction) and decides to try his luck: "Good sir, we are on a path to face a powerful wizard. Whilst my companions and I are accomplished in our chosen profession, we would appreciate any assistance that you could provide us in our quest to make this a safer region for good folk such as yourself"
(OOC not sure if a Charisma check of any time is needed, but just in case here is a d20 roll) 18
“There are two things I need assistance with. The Orcs pestering me from Wyvern Tor and I need someone, “ he hesitates, “less likely shall we say, to anger her to ask a question of the Banshee for me. Do these things and I may have answers you seek.”
Joshua stepping out from behind the walls adds in "We've already dealt with the orcs and the ogre in Wyvern Tor so surely that is worth some good favor."
Prentissscowls as if affronted "We're not in the ear-collecting business if that's what you mean, but we took some items that they no longer needed; maybe something we picked up would give the proof that you need? Or of course, you are welcome to pay them a visit and check for yourself"
Scales glistening in the light, he lifts his chin slightly as if to challenge the stranger to doubt him.
And as for your banshee? We will happily consider your request if it will earn us aid.
He grins at Prentiss, “A brave one. Yes, I will check.” He closes his eyes for a moment as if deep in thought. Then opens them and looks at each of you, including Sheyla. “Ask Agatha a question for me. The name of the wizard who built this tower. Old Owl Well. If she will tell you, and you share this answer with me, I will tell you the location of Wave Echo. Use this to appease her,” he holds out a tiny jeweled box.
As you ponder his question, the Zombies continue to shamble about the courtyard squishing and making odd clicks as broken bones that shouldn't work clatter along with them. Maggots coil through eyes and various parts hang and swing as they weave close, then farther away seemingly aimlessly. One wanders close to Prentiss and stands near, maybe captivated by a sparkle in the glisten of his scales and stares ahead with dead eyes swaying back and forth. Another reaches out at the sparkling jeweled box, but he simply covers it briefly and it loses interest.
Loren's face pales as he sees the way the zombie react to the commands of this... bad-wizard. Yet, he seems to offer the very answers they seek, the location of this famous Wave Echo cave. Surely what lies there would be worth a little sacrifice, a little detour from the path to gain such an advantage. Still, the zombies make him nervous - he hasn't seen anything like them before. And all for just a name...
Loren settles his mouth in a determined scowl. Better a quick detour to find the goal than a long, uncertain way around.
The robed figure smiles slightly at the reaction from Loren to his interaction with Zombies. "You should see the ones in Thundertree, after that Mount Hotenow erupted. Your friend, behind the wall - he should ask the question of Agatha. He seems the sort to appease her. Just a suggestion though." He holds out the jeweled box a little further towards the group in encouragement. (He seems to be referencing Joshua)
Prentiss looks a little confused at the mention of Wave Echo, but picks up the mood from the rest of the group that this name is significant. He shrugs to Joshua and makes a gesture/expression combination that he hopes comes off as 'I guess we do this?'
Prentiss steps forward and takes the box from the man (I think he is offering it to us?) and backs away, nodding in acknowledgement.
"We will ask the question of this banshee, and be back with your answer. A fair bargain then it seems, Mr...?"he lets the question hang, hoping to learn the man's name.
"Hamun Kost. Yes, see you soon." His statement draws out at the end and he makes several broad gestures (not at or towards you but you believe to the zombies). The zombies who have completely surrounded most of you by this point shamble quickly (as zombies go) to the tower brushing closely by as they are not graceful in doing so, but seem to have an urgency in them to get to their destination. "Fair travels to you." He says in fairwell and returns to his tent swiftly.
Still shaken by the sight of the walking dead, Prentiss takes solace in the thought that he will soon be away from here; and then remembers that they are setting off to meet - and possibly confront - an even more frightening foe.
He shoulders his pack, turns to the others and says "So, to Conyberry? might as well get this done I suppose"
He tries to make light of the situation, but struggles to cover his discomfort (just to test him, Deception 24 )
"That was unsettling to say the least. I wonder why he said I would be the best to ask these question?" Joshua says while walking over to Prentiss to take the jeweled box
Velshir follows the others' lead. He ponders this change of events. Once the group is well away from the man and the zombies, he quietly says,
"I thought these zombies were causing trouble with the townsfolk. Perhaps if we do this thing for Hamun Kost then he will relocate and trouble the town no more with his unnatural army. But if he won't, then we may need to take matters into our own hands after all..."
"Did anyone recognize the significance of the tattoo on his forehead? Or any other clues that may give us more information about him?"
Prentiss doesn't detect any deception from anyone, anywhere. (nice roll)
Joshua is unable to recall anything of significance in the magical arena regarding his tattoo. (You may all roll History and Arcana should you wish to)
Which way do you go to get to Conyberry from here? (If this is your desired direction)
Prentiss recognizes Kost’s tattoo as a necromantic symbol and that the garb he wears is usual for Thay, a land far to the east where wizards pattern their flesh with tattoos. The tattoo on the head represents a wizard’s school of magic. Kost’s school is necromancy.
For route, you may travel through the hills directly to Conyberry or back between the hills to the trail and along it.

(Direct route if there is no path?)
Prentiss skill checks: Arcana 5 History 8 to recall any info about the man's garb and/or tattoo.
