(The grateful Blacksmith goes around thanking the adventurers, alternately hugging and enthusiastically shaking the hands of the brave party who has agreed to help him. He listens to your questions and tries his best to answer.)
"Yes, my shop is attached to my home.
I have no idea why they would attack me, I'm just a simple Blacksmith. I mean, I guess my home is on the edge of town, close the edge of the forest, so it may just have been the closest..."
(Wilfred looks pensive.)
"Hmmm, now where do you think they could have taken her, Rickard?"
(The Blacksmith thinks for a moment.)
"I... I haven't got a clue. I mean, I didn't even know there were goblins in these parts. I'm pretty sure there's a dead goblin in my workshop, maybe we can figure out where they went if we go back there? It's on the north edge of town."
(He looks at you all expectantly.)
DMs note: Please let me know if you want to do anything before heading to Rickard's shop. Also, as you've probably noticed, the pace is fairly slow because of the nature of the PbP game, so thank you for being patient.

“Thank you Rickard. We’ll do what we can.”
“Willfred, Rickard.” Jasper said. “Before we head out to Rickard’s shop, is there anything you can provide us in our efforts to save young Bess?”
Jasper glances around the tavern for useful items. ~Perception roll?~ 12
”Is there any place where we may procure potions?” Jasper asked the tavern owner.
Note to DM: When do you call for ability checks? Example. When I want to search a room for items or traps, do I just roll a perception check right away?
"Uh, no, not really, Master Jasper. We're just a regular Tavern. I could pack you some bread and cheeses to take with you on your journey, if you'd like. As for Potions and things, I'm afraid only Master Craig would possibly have anything like that, but he's gone on his yearly fishing trip and won't be back for several days. But even if he was here, I don't think I've seen something like that in his shop. This is a pretty simple town."
(Jasper looks around for anything useful, but doesn't really see anything that would come in handy. Your group already has the best equipment in the place.)
DMs note: You did fine with a Perception check, I'll get more into them in the next post.
As everyone seems to be moving to grab their items and head towards Rickard's shop, Sechirehime thinks for a moment before addressing the blacksmith.
"Rickard, we will do our best save your daughter. What does she look like, if I may ask?"
Upon receiving a description, the large Tiefling would also ask the townspeople in the room if they have ever encountered a goblin lair in this area, or any particularly large animal dens. After their answer, she ponders a moment more as she moves to gather her satchel placed neatly outside the tavern.
"Hmm....Sherry. That is a pretty name." Sechirehime mumbles to herself and faintly smiles. Leaving her lavish robe with Rickard for the moment, she goes outside and rummages through a small woven sack. She quickly adorns a simple, hempen tunic. However, this one seems too large for her, the collar area sagging until it nearly rested around her shoulders. Fixing her ill-fitting outfit with a broad waistband, she gets it to almost look like a peasant dress. Though the matter at hand is urgent, the Tiefling's appearance seems to be very important to her. Anyone observing her notices that this seems like an established routine for her, and that the clothes, despite being too large or too small, are at least impeccably clean.
Hearing the question of potions being asked, Sechirehime stops before leaving and adds, "Yes, healing potions or unguents would be very helpful if anyone can spare them."

Jasper cautiously exits the tavern and begins to walk towards the blacksmiths shop. With the group following along? I assume. Along the way, I keep a vigilant eye on my surroundings. Searching for signs of movement in the shadows. [Perception check]7 Passive Perception 15
Zal walks out the tavern door and cautiously heads to Rickard's shop on the northern edge of town looking for signs of the perpetrators and of other unpleasantness that may be laying in wait for them along the way.
As I look into shadows of the town buildings, my eyes begin to wander in the moonlight. ~Cut to flashback~ Fog covering the Forest, screams feel the moonlit night, tribe members being attacked by pale skinned humanoids. Sinking their teeth into the necks of family and friends. Many running deep into the Forest. Fear gripping tight. I run! I run! I... ~Back to reality~
I shake the thoughts and focus on the task at hand. “Never again!” I think to myself. “Never again…”
”Thili. Sechirehime. Do you see anything?” I asked. “Zalmanni. Mika. How about you?”
Zal freezes at the sound of Jasper's voice, looks upward and thinks to himself, "Mielikki, help me....."
He then turns to Jasper, notices he seems a little unsettled, smiles and puts a finger to his lips. He silently moves closer to Jasper, leans in towards one of his ears, and says in a low, barely audible voice, "No, I haven't seen anything yet, but you'll know when I do. You seem a bit nervous, no need to be, I think we've got a good group here that can easily handle whatever we run into.... especially if we can get the drop on any stragglers by being quiet until we get to the workshop."
Zal flashes another smile at Jasper after he finishes talking, though this smile, while still friendly, is a bit predatory as well.
(Rickard describes his daughter to Sechirehime: 8 years old, 3 1/2 feet tall, dark straight hair in bangs and big brown eyes.
The townspeople seem a little taken aback, not used to seeing a Tiefling, but they all answer politely enough and shake their heads that they've not seen or heard anything about Goblins around these parts. They also reiterate they have no potions anywhere around.
(The group, especially Jasper, scouts the area as the Blacksmith leads the way. They see a few townspeople here or there, but not anything that looks dangerous or strange. The party follows Rickard to his workshop on the North edge of town. The signs of a struggle are everywhere: Broken pots litter the floor, splintered chairs and tables, etc. A goblin lays dead on the floor, a poker thus his chest. The layout of his workshop is roughly as shown:
"Well, here it is. I haven't really had a chance to look things over, I went for help as soon as I came to."
Spoiler for Mika and Zalmanni ONLY:
Both of your Ranger experience kicks in and you are automatically drawn to the tracks the goblins left. Using your Tracking skills (you automatically succeed) you are able to perceive that there were about 7 sets of tracks. 6 appear to be Goblin tracks, and 1 seems to be from a small human. The tracks seem to be going to a fence on the far northeast side of the property.
DM's Note: You are free to look around. A little note about Spoilers: When you get a spoiler, keep in mind that this is information only you know. It's up to you to convey that information to the rest of your party. If you don't tell them, they don't know.
Also, remember, if you're going to roll, the difference between Perception (I look and see...) and Investigation (I see and deduce...). You have to be specific about what you're looking at when you make an Investigation roll. You can't just say, "I Investigate the room." You have to say, for example, "I Investigate the Workbench." When you roll, make sure to add your modifiers. Look at your Character Sheet under Skills and add the number to your roll.
Sorry for the crappy Paint drawing, it's not to scale or anything, it's just meant to give you all a rough idea of how everything is set up. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I want to make sure stuff is clear for you guys.
Sechirehime looks around the workshop, fascinated with child-like wonder. Her nose scrunches as the various smells of metal and animals, but she seems to quickly ignore the pungent odors and begin looking at the walls, expectantly.
(Are there weapons or tools along the walls? Or is it mostly barren?)
Noticing the dead goblin with a weapon still imbedded in its chest, she averts her eyes, clearly uncomfortable at the sight, and hopes the other members of her party are more enthusiastic about searching the corpse. Instead, she will look at the broken potter, trying to ascertain if the goblins were attempting to steal something of value there. [Investigation 17]
Jasper walks cautiously into the shop and see the body of a goblin on the floor. Approaching the body, Jasper nudges it’s foot to determine if any life is left in the creature. Jasper begins to search the goblin for anything useful. [Perception Check] 12
Jasper also investigates the body and cause of death. Looking up at Rickard saying, “Sure did stick this one!” [Investigation Check] 12

"I wonder if there is a way to ascertain their motive," she muses aloud. "Rickard, I know this is a difficult time for you, but is there anything you can think of that may indicate this attack was not a random one? Was poor Bess in the workshop with you at the time of the attack or was she hiding elsewhere?" She moves over toward the broken pottery and furniture, stooping to sift through the wreckage.
