If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
"We should be there before sundown, Aelar. OH!" she says, looking back.
"Smuggling you six in. There's a tarp underneath the bundle of packages. Gently pull it out and get it unfurled. We're going to turn you six into a bundle of firestarter for the Shining Moon bath house. You're going to have to squish yourselves in together as tightly as you can, then I'll wrap the tarp around you all and stuff the exposed end with the bundle of branches you've got on you, the other end will be pushed up against the packages. Just stay still and breathe shallow when you hear the guard. I'll hide Balgrim and Lazlo's bows in with the rest of the stuff. When you're able to see Guiston, that's when we'll get you dressed up in the disguise." Kina says.

After Kina gets the group through the gate in the most awkward and uncomfortable two minutes of the group's lives, they're able to relax on the other side as she unties the binding keeping them pressed together like sushi.
"You can breathe now, we're here." she says.
Guiston is so unlike Hon in so many ways. For one thing, it's farmland stretches out so far, the walls disappear behind the hills, with the only clue of their existence being the three main watch towers that stretch some two hundred feet up. It's little wonder catching game is still possible within the city walls, there's practically a small wooded area within its border. The roads aren't simply dirt, even out in the farmland, and the town proper seems to be a distinct entity from the rest of the region. Back in Hon, everything was just kind of mismatched within the walls where new buildings were just erected wherever there was room. Guiston is organized and efficient, every district with a purpose in mind. Overhead, the grumbling calls of kites can be heard as the huge creatures come gently gliding in where they land closer to the town proper.
For some of the group, it may be their first time seeing a town as large as Guiston in person. Hon had a population of just under 10,000, a far cry from Guiston's 45,000, so it takes a little time to digest.
Kina gestures down the road.
"I'm heading this way. I have a charter to complete, and whatever money I make from my deliveries, I'll bring back with me. If you follow the same road, you'll come to a crossroads with a sign post that will point you in the direction of Goodwin farm. By the time you get to it, I should be finished with my delivery and I'll meet you there, get you introduced to the Goodwins. With any luck, we'll have shelter for the night." she states.
It seems insane that there's yet still more walking to do even inside Guiston's walls just to get to a place to sleep, but then again, Guiston is also booming thanks to being the midway point between Port Krell, Corwin, and Valis, the three great cities.
"If you want to try your luck, though, about half an hour's walk from here, towards that watch tower, is Pitch's hole. It's a fishing spot with a small wooded glade surrounding it. Old Thomas Goodwin loves fish and mushrooms. If you can show up with some as gifts, it'll definitely put him in a good mood." Kina suggests, then rolls her neck and stretches her back.
"Ugh, what a day... I'll see you soon." Kina says, and hurries off to finish her charter.
How does the party react?
(Post initiative: Kallista 7 Leon 16 Lazlo 1 Aelar 7 Hyre 2 Balgrim 5 also, now that you're not in the wilds, it's now 'safe' to split apart from the party and do your own thing.)

" I'd hate to show up empty handed, maybe it would be more polite to bring Farmer Goodwin some fish and mushrooms as a token of our goodwill. Kina, what do the edible mushrooms in these parts look like? Lazlo says. He plans on heading to Pitch's Hole to see if he could catch fish or hunt for mushrooms.

Lazlo:
Before Kina runs off, she gestures with a dismissive wave of her hand.
"Oh, don't worry about that, Thomas will know the difference. Even poison mushrooms have their uses for vermin control." she says. "But if you find dark brown ones that are really round, Thomas may just write you into his will. The whole family loves bumblebomb mushrooms. Just...... don't take a bite out of one without cooking it properly. I did that once and.... I don't remember what happened afterwards, but when I came to, somehow everyone in the Warren recognized me." she adds, blushing a bit.
There's more to the story, she's just not telling.

Lazlo laughs but doesn't press. "I'll remember not to eat any raw mushrooms out there. Maybe we can fashion a fishing line? or build a fish trap with our sticks and twine?
ooc: do we have enough materials to do either?
Insight 11. check to see if we have the materials
Survival 5 check to see if I could make a fish trap
ooh. Yikes.
Fleabag Fleabane -Tabaxi Ranger | Lenny Coggins- Halfling Barbarian | Sid Shatterbuckle- Dwarf Fighter/Rogue| Lazlo - Satyr Bard in Training
Lazlo:
You have the materials you need to make a fishing pole and line (A very short line) and since Kina gave you something to eat, you still have some dried meat or the grubs that were found as usable bait... but not NEARLY the tools available to you to make a trap. You have the materials to make a trap, but your fingers won't be enough to do the job (insert 'that's what she said' joke here) to bend the twigs you gathered together into a tapering cage that will hold together in the water and resist the thrashing of a fish that realizes it can't get out.

"You all can go do that, I'm going to use the little time that I have to find some places in town that might be useful later on. I'll meet you at the farm when night falls."
Hyre departs from the group and goes to any nearby person. "Excuse me, is there a library in town? If so, could you point me at its direction?"
If the stranger tells him a direction, he'll follow it until he finds the library. If he gets lost he'll ask another nearby person.

ooc: It just occurred to me that we are all barefoot, in our nightclothes.
Aelar had been planning on heading to Pitch's Hole but decided to go with Hyre. His friend was very brave but Aelar didn't think it was a good idea for any of them to be alone. He keeps his senses alert for anyone who might want to hurt them or take advantage of them, anything like that.
"Hold up, Hyre. A library sounds like a good idea. I'll come with you."
As they walk, Aelar reaches inside again. We made it to Guiston, Raia. You were right. Thank you! Rest and heal. Along with the words, he tries to send a sense of safety and a desire that she rest and not bother to respond.

(I'm going to roll percentile to see what kind of person you guys run into. The town proper will take some time to walk to from the farm lands (I'll draw the map soon) but Kina warned that the town guards won't take kindly to seeing the kids in the state they're in, but there ARE smaller little outlaying community centers outside the main town that aren't heavily patrolled, and with Hyre's Charisma deficit, well, we'll see.)

Hyre/Aelar:
It takes four people before you finally meet someone who is willing to speak to you. She's a young half-orc girl, dressed in tattered, old, poor-fitting clothes on her powerful frame. When Hyre and Aelar approach her, she bunches up defensively.
"Don't! I don't have anything!" she says reflexively. When she finds out that the pair aren't hostile, she still seems wary, but relieved.
"A library? Of course there is, but you're not going to be able to use it looking like that. What do you need readin' for?" she asks
DM, professional illustrator and comic artist, suffering from severe spinal stenosis, married, middle aged, and nerdy.
"Just some things I'm curious about. After I find my answers... maybe I'll study something. More importantly, you said we won't be able to use it lookimg like this. Does that mean not everyone are allowed inside? Is there an entry fee or something?"

Hyre/Aelar:
The half-orc girl pulls at the tatters of her dress, then walks forward and pulls on the collar of Hyre's dirty night shirt.
"The library is in the Falconer's Common. The part of Guiston us beggars aren't welcome in. So, you two are new here." she says, putting her hands on her hips.
"If'n you go thrashin' up to people like this, you're likely to get tossed out the walls. I might know where there's some books that's not a library though, if ya kin make it worth my while." she raises a brow.

Aelar glances at Hyre, then back at the young girl. He smiles his best smile, "Yes, we're new here. Just arrived in fact. My name is Aelar. I know we look a little rough and we thank you for your kindness." He pauses to let the affect of his words and compliment settle, thanking his mother again. "What can we do to earn your help..." He trails off expectantly, waiting for her name.
