If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
Kina joins in as best she can, but for some reason, the lyric about 'bad hairdo' just gets to her. She tries her best to keep singing through the laughter, but she just ends up snorting, which makes her laugh harder, which makes her snort. She eventually just gives up and makes her part clapping. When Lazlo is done, she throws her arms around him and rubs her cheek against his. Everyone else is seated at chairs, she just lays on her haunches on the floor, which makes her short enough to dine with the others.
Edna thinks for a moment at Lazlo's request, and then nods.
"I think there's a minstrel troupe making the rounds near the Horseshoe Saloon looking for a fourth member. They're just performing on the street corner, usually, but Bellamine the head server won't let them perform inside. Says they get the crowd too riled up when there's drinking." she says, then taps her finger to her chin.
"Actually, I thinkin' there is something we's could use yon help with 'roun the 'frm, given yon talents, boyo. Do yon have any experience 'roun quillhogs?" Thomas asks.
Kina tilts her head as she munches on some mushroom stew. "You've got quillhogs now?"
"Shore do, wiffin' das college what jus' open, writing an' drawing is all the rage. Mighty dum beasties, they are, n'almost blind, y'see. If'n they settle too much, they put the quills up, an' then there's no moving em'. Gotta rollem' outta their mudholes with a shovel. But aye, keep them movin', and they keep the quills down, and you keep them movin' with sound. We trained em' to come to yon whistle, an' move 'way to stompin'." Thomas explains.

Edna hmms, as does Thomas to Balgrim's inquiry.
"Dwarven? Well, can't say I do. But the priests of the various churches in Guiston all seem to know one another. Probably this 'sister Daar' would know where the dwarfish faithful congregate. What sort of services would you offer, master dwarf?" Edna asks, seemingly surprised at Balgrim's piousness.
Kina looks over at Kallista.
"Once you're properly dressed, I'll introduce you to my blacksmith. He might have some work for you, unless you like working with animals."

"I'm willing to do anything right now," Kallista says, "I just want to make sure that we all will be okay. Thank you Kina... for everything you've done for us."

Kina rubs her chin.
"I think you might have a very obvious advantage working at a kite stable, Kallista. Kites are normally docile, but the thing kite wranglers are always afraid of is having one getting spooked in the middle of grooming and taking off. It's not terribly uncommon for kite workers to get badly injured by falling off the animals. You certainly wouldn't have that problem." she suggests.

Aelar smiles and laughs at Lazlo’s song. “Well done, Lazlo, well done. I actually the sloppy-haired bastard!.” He laughs for a while more. Then slows down and finally stops.
He considers his answer to what he wants to do next, then says, “Well, Hyre and I have to go see Sister Daar tomorrow about this locket and I definitely want to find out what she can tell me about it and this sit-up. And I want to learn what I can about dragons. What with being saved by one and then this sign on my chest, I’m mighty curious. Beyond that, I’m hoping to get work on the farm. One thing I learned on the journey here, a strong, healthy body is important and I can’t think of a better way to earn that than doing farm work, outdoors. Do you have any work for me, ma’am, sir?”

"Really!" Kallista seems to light up, "you mean my wings are actually good for something?"

Half-consious Hyre is able just sits and instinctively eat his food. From it and the song, he's a little more awake, though his gears still aren't turning. Eventually, he manages to tap his head and say: "Study." This is all he says, his eyes just closed at this point. When Aelar speaks of their plans for tomorrow, he does a slight nod.

Kina nods at Kallista.
"Those wings will open possibilities for you, if you're not afraid to use them. Think about it, you can get places that are normally laborious, you don't have to deal with foot traffic, you can even spot suspicious behavior. The town watch might even be able to use you, once we get you properly dressed."
As Hyre all but falls in his food, Kina smiles kindly and then eases him over onto her back.
"I'm putting this one to bed." she says. "Before he drowns in his stew. Thank you again for letting us stay here for the night, Thomas, Edna. Excuse me."
She gets up and carefully backs around the dining room, finding her way outside without knocking anything over with her huge frame. She trots out to the stable where she puts up some clean hay and then lays down. The Goodwins gave them an old, huge blanket to put over the six of them. She lets herself be a pillow, letting Hyre's head rest against her flank, where he hears the odd swish-thump of her secondary heart. Kina herself doesn't need much to fall asleep, she just leans against the stall wall and bows her head.
Meanwhile, Thomas tells Aelar about a large pile of firewood he needs chopped up that will more than give him his exercise for the day. On a farm as big as the Goodwin's, there's always a lot of labour to go around.

Given, Hyre falls asleep even before they get to the stable.

Leon says, "I'm more than happy to work on the Goodwin Farm, if there's anything you need to be done. Though, you mentioned the town watch- would they happen to be recruiting? I may be interested in joining their ranks."

"That sounds good, Sir. I'll get to that first thing in the morning. I've never chopped wood before but I'm not afraid of hard work and I love to learn new things. For, now, thanks for the delicious stew and the bed. Goodnight everyone," he says, the weariness clear in his voice. "I'm feel like I'm out on my feet. I need my trance."
Aelar makes his way to where Hyre and Kina sleep, finds a comfortable place to arrange himself, then wraps the locket in a piece of cloth, hollows out a small area in the ground for it, then sits on top of it. Then he puts himself into the trance elves use in place of sleep.
Thank you for everything, Raia, and you also, whose name I do not know. He sends the thought quietly, more a murmur.

Thomas looks surprised at Leon.
"You're a little young to be joining the watch." Edna says. "But then, so was I... not that I would ever use my species' size to lie about my age. Not me, nope." she smiles slyly.
"Typically, you need a referral from a wealthy house to gain admittance to the watch academy, as positions of prestige in Guiston require public service of some sort, either that or you pass the entrance test, which costs 40 gold pieces per attempt, last I remember it, which was some twenty years ago." she states.
Edna looks over Leon again.
"I saw you have some practice swords. For finding that bumblebomb mushroom, I would be happy to show you some basics, get you started, at least."
(The party now has 67 SP, or almost 7 GP... enough to buy 3 crowbars or one well made drinking glass. Yeah, they may be able to afford one change of clothes each and some food, but they are still hella poor, but at least now they stand a chance of getting jobs.)

Leon recoils in surprise. "40 gold pieces! It would take ages for me to earn that much."
He sighs and looks down at his wooden practice sword. It was a crude imitation of the great weapons wielded by his ancestors, but he needed to start somewhere. It was time he began to forge his own destiny.
"Thank you so much for offering to teach me, Edna. When do we begin?"

Kallista smiles a little as she finishes her meal. "Thank you so much," she says again to the couple, before going to bed with eveyone else and falling asleep, exhaused.

Exhausted, Lazlo bids Thomas and Edna a good night, then heads to the stable and curls up with his friends for a well deserved sleep.
ooc: FYI I DM'd my regular weekly table game today (we're using ROll20 bc of the pandemic), and I got caught out checking the forum to catch up with this story. It's great fun!

(Thanks much :3 It's my mandate for this sort of thing that everyone gets a 'spotlight' moment, and when using characters with NO skill proficiencies, it basically lets anyone do anything to have that moment, they just have to seize the RP-tunity. I'm just waiting on Balgrim to speak up next)

Balgrim
Balgrim waits and makes sure everyone gets settled in. He's a young dwarf, but compared to many of the others he's the "elder" of the group. Once they've all retired for the evening, he too makes his way to the stable and quickly falls asleep.
