At the farm though, you can focus on building strength OR dex AND con (because now they've gotten used to working) though the only additional skill you can build at the farm is animal handling. Whatever you decide to push yourself for (if you do at all) causes you to have level 1 exhaustion, preventing you from training any further unless you are pitting your ability against someone else. Kallista is up early, and heads out to Grimbuld's shop. She pauses downstairs first though, thinking about what he had said before they went to find the trolls. She approaches Hana, or whoever is down there she can ask. "Um... pardon me. Do you know somewhere I can get my clothes washed? For later today, not right now."
After she gets that information she thanks them, and heads to Grimbuld's shop.

When Hyre gets to the saloon, he looks for Hana. "Good morning," he says when he finds her, "does your offer still stand? I can try my luck in the kitchen... or stocking the cellar if I prove to be a total disaster at that."

Kallista learns that there's a public laundering 'trench' that she can wash up at.
"Buttle slimes all live there. They clean off anything dirty they find on clothing, but you have to be quick about pulling your clothes out before the slimes pull them in too deep or they'll start to digest the cloth too. Doesn't do much to new clothes, but if you've got anything old or cheap, you might find a few new holes if you're not fast enough. Sure saves on soap, but you just can't let yourself get distracted. After you fish your clothes out, you just rinse off the residue. Good as new." Hana explains to her.
Kallista later arrives to the shop in time to see Grimbuld hanging a sign on the shop door.
"Good, you're here." he states. He's standing a lot more hunched than she's used to seeing him.
"Come on, then, you've more to learn. I'm going to be closing the store a little early today." he says.
Grimbuld takes Kallista through the stockroom and shows her more herbs and how they're processed and used, though he seems a bit distracted and forgetful. By the time noon rolls around, Kallista can see a stain forming on the front of his vest, near where the troll bit him the other day. He's bleeding, the wounds having opened up again. He tries to ignore it, however, going about his business. He's clearly in pain, and is simply doing his best to ignore it.
It's the afternoon when Aelar arrives at the mission, they seem to have recovered from the previous day's violence. The ones in the infirmary are doing much better thanks to the added salves brought to the Mission by Grimbuld.
The old ranger is still there, in fact, getting fussed over by Sister Daar, much to his chagrin. He keeps trying to leave, but she wraps her tail around him and plunks him right back down in his chair.
"Honestly, packing weeds into your wounds? That only works to clot the blood, it doesn't CLOSE THE WOUND you stubborn old brushcutter..." she nags him.
"Don't tell me my business, snake woman. It worked well eno--ow! That was intentional!"
"Yes, it was, because you won't stop squirming. Honestly, it's just a little stitching. You'll take on two trolls but you can't handle a little needle. You can't keep doing this, Artemis!"
"Do you want salves or not? Besides, I have help now. She at least LISTENS when I say something."
"Probably because she can't get a word in edgewise. So help me, if you move again, I'll sew your arm to your ear."
The pair squabble back and forth a bit more before Barna appears.
"Aelar! Back again? That's good of you... Hyre isn't with you?" she asks, peeking behind him. She looks disappointed as she lugs a large basket of soiled bandages over. "Well... I wonder if he's feeling embarrassed because of what happened the other day..." she sighs, and then hands Aelar a big armful of bandages. "Your timing is impeccable though. I could definitely use your help. It's laundry day." she says.
Barna has been changed out of her usual clothes and is now wearing a habit much like Sister Daar, though the shoulder bands she wears are a very light blue and Daar's are a deep red. Possibly to signify how new she is to their cause.
"We're going to the public laundering trench."
Hana is surprised to see Hyre in the morning.
"Well, you ARE eager. Well then, come along. Let's see what you can do!" she says. Hyre bumps into Kallista when she asks about doing laundry, so he overhears the conversation about the cleaner slimes as well, though she has to hurry off to the shop.
(Roll for a success to 'cooking', also for DEX and INT, with advantage, as Hana is doing her best to help him along.)

"Ah, good morning!" Hyre tries to say as Kallista walks away. "Let's see then!" He realises that he's in a rather good mood today, though he's not sure what's the cause. 'Unpredictable thing, this mood thing is,' he thinks.

Aelar smiles at Barna in a friendly way. "Hullo, Barna. Yep, back again. I promised to help and here I am. I like helping out here. It gives me a sense of accomplishment, a different kind then I get at the farm," he says as he takes his share of bandages. "As for Hyre, well, I don't know if embarrassed is the right word but his secrets are his to tell. What did he tell you about himself, if anything? And, if you'd like to see him, we all moved to the Horseshoe inn and he's planning to work there. In fact, I think he's there now."
As they walk along, he tells Barna an edited version of his adventures over the past couple of days, omitting any mention of Raia, his connection to her, or his spirit vision. He does mention his plan to talk his way into Hawk's Nest later that day. "I'm still working out what I'd like to do, long-term like. For now, the mission and the farm suit. How about you? What're your plans?" He asks the question casually, partly out of genuine courtesy and partly out of a desire to get the information. Casual questions, tossed in after giving something about yourself, worked well to loosen tongues, his cousin had told him...and shown him.
ooc: How much did Aelar earn today? Also, he got a CON success, correct?
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
((Working on the farm nets 8 SP a day. Leon makes a little more with 10 SP, and Kallista's wage is reliant on her performance at work... and Grimbuld's mood. Also yep, that's a CON success! Recorded.))
Grimbuld shoots a glare over to Kallista, then looks down and sees the seepage through his vest. He audibly grumbles and takes off his spider cloak.
"Watch the store until I return. With any luck, it'll be quiet until then." he mutters. He picks up a couple of vials of healing salve, but doesn't use them on himself.
"I should see the Sister today anyway, she should have a couple more vials on hand, just in case." he states. "If you can't remember the prices for the herbs, there's a reference book under the counter. If a customer has a problem with how long it's taking you to find out how much they owe, they can WAIT, and if they complain about the price, just think of what we went through for that damned troll blood. Every weed is worth the cost. They can't pay, they can go out into the wild themselves and try to get it. We're not running a charity." he grumbles.
He realizes he's holding a couple of vials he's just going to give Sister Daar.
"This is different, this is FOR a charity... and payment for services rendered."
((Is Kallista going to try extra hard to study while Grimbuld is gone? Also, roll 2D4. That's how many customers Kallista has to deal with while he's out. You will then have the option to either play out each encounter or simply roll against a DC 11 check against your INT for each customer to see if Kallista handled them correctly.))
Barna listens dutifully to Aelar's story, though she seems a little confused since he leaves out the parts about Raia.
"So... no... adverse effects from that ... episode with the locket, I take it... you know, you should come meet someone Hyre and I are acquaintances with, you might find some answers." she says, though when she begins explaining about SIr Geoffrey, she finds out that he already knows about him. She pouts slightly when she finds out she didn't get to be useful. Her pouting is short-lived however, when Aelar mentions Hyre.
Her eyes light up when Aelar tells her about the group having moved to the Horseshoe.
"Oh! That's much closer!" she says, then clears her throat as she leads him towards the public washing 'trench'. It's apparently where most of the lower-class do their cleaning. Some even simply wear their clothes into the slime to take care of both hygiene and laundry at the same time.
"I mean... not that... I would... umm... bother him..." she rambles. Her greyish skin flushes into a purple around her pointed ears. "Did he tell you about Sir Geoffrey? We were... err... 'visiting' this old knight who has a huge collection of ancient books and he asked what our relationship and Hyre... said he loves me. I'm sure it was just something he blurted out while he was thinking... you've seen how he kind of locks up whenever FEELINGS are brought up but... it made me really happy to hear." she says, hugging her basket of linen against her chest.
"I still regret what I did when we first met. Part of me isn't sure I deserve to be happy even if he does... love me... it's why I want to be better than the image people have of.... my kind... and control my impulses. It's why I'm at the mission. I'm going to train under Sister Daar, learn the way of Draco." she says, then looks up after they turn a corner to an open courtyard in the middle of some shops. It looks like this was kind of a happy accident, probably when the city was planning on building something else in the area, they discovered an infestation of slimes, but found instead an efficient and easy way of keeping up good hygiene.
"Here we are." she says. The trench really is just a 3-foot deep channel of a complete infestation of buttle slimes. She hands Aelar a long pole and takes one up herself. Doing the laundry is simple enough, it's just a lot of stirring and keeping the linens near the surface so they can see when they're clean so they're able to pull them out before the slimes start digesting the cloth.
Hyre is able to keep up with the cutting and the ingredients, but actually making a meal escapes him. Still, Hana seems pleased with his food preparation abilities, at least, even if he doesn't quite get the finer aspects of cooking.
"Not bad, not bad. I'd say y'all have some talent for this, at least. I'd be more worried about keeping y'all in the kitchen if'n we found a sliced off a finger in the chicken pie." she says.
"How'd it feel, workin' in the kitchen? Better than farmwork?" she asks him. (Also, that's a success for DEX and INT for Hyre.)

((Kallista is going to try extra hard yes!
14OOps XD not 2d20, 2d4: 3))Kallista takes a deep breath and nods. "Yes Sir." Once he's gone, Kallista does her best to prepare herself. For some reason, the idea of handling customers on her own was more terrifying then fighting 2 trolls in her brain.

"Ah, well, I've always been good with fine and accurate work, I guess." Though he's still in a rather good mood, he really hoped to discover himself to be an amazing cook. He imagined serving a "sword and board" to his friends, or Barna, and saying 'I made this'. He tried to imagine their reactions but that was already beyond him. "It's definitely different. Farmwork is nice and it doesn't requie much thought so I can ponder of - ah... other things - while working." He was sure revealing his problems with people on the first day of work wouldn't be a great idea. Thankfully, his mother had enough time to teach him how to handle these kinds of conversations. Luckily, he still remembers some of it and is able to use his knowledge. "Meanwhile, here I have to be mindful of what I'm doing, which is also a good way to stop thinking about exactly those things. I'm not sure which is better but I think I'll keep working here, if it's fine by you, of course. Maybe I'll be slow, but hopefully I'll be able to learn how to cook eventually."

Aelar watches Barna for a bit before dumping his own batch of linens in and stirring them around. "Nothing bad from that locket thing you mentioned," he says after a while. "That all went well." After they've been there a while, he says, "You should come by the Horseshoe tonight, see everyone. I may not be there...depends on how things go later, but most everyone else will be."

Barna looks to Aelar with some puzzlement.
"What's so important in the Nest anyway? I don't understand why you'd demean yourself to some pampered dandies... you're not going to try and steal anything, are you? You pulled off ONE caper, maybe ... don't push your luck?" she says, stirring around the linens as she watches the cat-sized slimes all try to pull them in deeper to their bodies, obscuring them in their aquamarine gel. They don't seem to mind being pushed, skewered and rolled about.
"Oh, dammit." she grumbles as she has difficulty getting some linens away from the slimes. One of them has stuck to her pole. When she pulls it up to try and shoo the slime off, it shoots a little jet of slime at her before it slips off.
"Cheeky little... grr...." Barna grumbles, wiping off her face and tossing the slimed bandages back into the basket.
"I'll do just that, be at the Horseshoe tonight... I trust I'm not the only one who knows of this plan of yours so if you're not back in the evening, we can all come look for you?"
Hana laughs lightly.
"Keep cutting those vegetables and roots like that, and I might just be tempted to put a leash on y'all so you don't stray too far!" she kids.
"You've got good, quick hands and a quick mind. I don't see why you couldn't be a cook." she says. "So, five of y'all come in through my door, all needin' a roof over yer heads. What's the story? Y'all runaways?" she asks as she uses the ingredients Hyre just processed to prepare the evening's menu.

Hyre tries to think. Should he tell her? On one hand, she already knows they didn't have a place to call home, so it's not too hard to guess about what happened to them. On the other hand, they didn't tell almost anyone and he wasn't sure what he's supposed to say. This is a situation where he'd rather someone else were there with him, but sadly they weren't. In the end, he chose not to lie - lying never yielded good results for him. "Not exactly. Did you hear anything about Hon in the last few days?" He also watches Hana carefully to see how she's preparing the dishes so he can repeat what she's doing the next time he tries.

Aelar laughs. "I got exactly the same advice not long ago from another lady, Barna. I plan to listen. No, I don't plan to steal anything, not anything physical. I want to get into that library, see if I can learn anything about..." he trails off, gesturing at his chest. "If they want to hoard the knowledge, well, I'll just have to ignore their wishes." After the laugh, he speaks quietly. No telling who's listening, or why.
