"Yeah, I was little concerned about how bad you look, lets get you patched up better before we go getting anyone killed." I say to Lorys, then turning to everyone, "Want to close that secret door for the time being and stash out in here while we take a break? Seems like we would at least have the benefit of any intruders coming through the bottleneck of that entrance."
Is the secret door defensible? does it open in toward us or out toward the cave on the other side? Perhaps we could block it with something while we wait, if it opens inward.
I suppose I'll be taking the #1 point spot then, after relearning burning hands.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Jacob Bray - The Call of Lon-Dia, Human Bloodhunter 3
(The door does open inward, it’s fairly heavy but you can block it with big stones that are strewn about.)
If you are all ok with taking a rest in this room and want to regain hit points, please roll your hit dice (should be on your character sheet) and add your Constitution modifier. Everyone is back at Full Spell slots.
(Having rested and tended to their wounds, the party opens the door and prepares themselves. Nikta leads the way, followed by Gerard, Lena, Carxus and Lorys in the rear. Before you is a very large room that seems to have been carved out of a cave. The walls are natural rocks, dark gray, with 20 foot ceilings. About 20 feet in there is a huge chasm, over which a narrow stone bridge connects this edge to another edge about 100 feet away. The bridge is about 5 feet wide and looks pretty sturdy, so you all could probably all cross it at once if you all went in a line.
Spoiler for Carxus:
You're pretty mesmerized by the depth of the chasm, so you're not paying much attention to anything else.
Spoiler for Nikta:
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
Spoilers for Lena, Gerard and Lory:
As you inspect the bridge, you notice that about halfway across, there is a part of the bridge that looks just a little bit difference than the rest. It's kind of far away, but you can tell it's a very slightly raised plate, about 10 feet across, long enough so you couldn't really jump over it unless you were very, very athletic. As you look around a little more, you see up on the ceiling a thin slit. You have a feeling that if you step on that plate, something bad is going to come out of there, and it'll probably hurt.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I see it too," Lorys says, "But there may be more to it than we can see at this distance. I suggest that we take a closer look at that plate, see if there is a way to disable whatever trap the goblins have set for us, or if not, then to spring it when we are ready."
She goes to the bridge, eyes focused on the plate.
As you investigate the pressure plate, you realize you have a couple of options. The plate is about 2 inches off the ground, so you could probably jam some rocks or something to keep the plate from pressing down. You could disable the trap, but that would probably take some tinkering underneath. Triggering it from a safe distance might be an option, but Gerard has come out with some pretty compelling reasons not to do that. Or you could maybe block the slit up on the roof with an arrow or something.
(The bridge is 100 feet, the plate is right in the middle, right at the 50 foot mark.)
DM's Note: It kind of depends what choice you make. If you try to disarm it with tools and such, it would be a Dexterity check. Certain choices wouldn't really need a roll.
Lorys returns to the others and tells them what she has learned.
Since the cavern is natural, are there small rocks on our side of the gorge? If so:
"I think it may be best to push some stones under the plate. We will need rocks about two inches tall." Lorys gestures with her hands to show about the size she means. "We may then be able to cross the bridge without triggering the trap."
If there are no stones of the right size on our side of the gorge:
"Does anyone have something that can go under the plate? About this big?" Lorys asks. She mimes the approximate size with her hands. "I have the boar's dried skin from last night, which may be able to catch in the mechanism if we can get it far enough underneath, but we may need more to keep the plate raised."
I could use a rest with my 4 hp, and I’ll take the 4 spot when we move.

I'll stay with 3rd spot.
I'll stick with my spot in the back.

Just waiting for Lorys to roll hit dice. Lena doesn't have to since she's full health.

How far out into the bridge is the plate?
"I should be able to trip it from a distance with a cantrip, but I may need to be a short way onto the bridge to do so..."
Jacob Bray - The Call of Lon-Dia, Human Bloodhunter 3
Nervously laughs... "I'm not too bad at that either, actually. Just a little wary of heights..."
DM: what's your procedure for disarming traps? I get the impression that it's a very house-rule sort of thing...
