Seeing the small hole, Brock would try to stick his hes inside but quickly realizes that the opening is too small. "Hold on, let me try to open his hols up a bit... he says before swinging his axes repeatedly at the floorboards.
@Kurstin - Returning to the catwalks, the young artificer first examined the large rectangular vat. Grabbing a nearby pole, he quickly stuck it inside to poke and prod for any openings to below; finding nothing but the steel bottom of the container and a sickening slurry of what he could only hope was fish. As he dropped the pole and returned to the deck below, he could see from his vantage point that the consistency of the water in the other opening was different than what he had just shifted through. Approaching the opening, he poked his his above the half-wall and looked down into the water below. After a few moments, he spotted a few slow swimming fish pass by confirming his hunch that he was actually staring at the Jeggare River below!
@Brock- Though Brock was able to chip away at some of the decking surrounding the hole, he quickly came to realize that it would take a fairly large amount of time and effort to expand the hole enough to fit a larger person though.
"Guys! Come look at this!" Kurstin will exclaim. He points to the vat that seemed to open directly to the river and recounts his experimentation and findings. "So, I hypothesize that if we go through this and swim underwater we should find a way into that sealed room. Who's ready to get wet?" He'll go first if nobody else has a strong desire to jump in before him. It was his idea, after all...
"I'll do it.!" Brock would reply as he wipes some sweat from his brow. he would then quickly slide his axes back into his belt and jump down into the hole.
Radgar looks eager to pursue their tormentor, but given his bulk and armor knew better than to drop into himself into a vat of water. Clapping Brock on the shoulder he bestows his blessing on the fighter's efforts. (Guidance)
"It's really dark down here!" Brock would shout as he looks around treading water. His armor pulled him down into the dark water, requiring a significant amount of effort to stay above the waterline. "Looks like some kinda old dock down here." He adds as he moves to the east, hoping to get out of the water
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Apologies for the delay in posts - just had an operation done & I am significantly more woozy than I normally am while posting.)
Danse, entirely unwilling to entertain the possibility of Gaedren making an underwater escape, descends right after Brock. If he wanted anyone on his side, it would be the large fighter - perhaps he's the only other one mad enough to pursue Gaedren until the end. "Let me take the lead. I am not hindered by the armor, and my elven eyes are more suitable for this type of environment."
Danse slid down after brock, scanning the surroundings and half-expecting Gaedren's alligator to appear. Perception? 22
Kaisaras would roll his eyes under his hood at the party's attempts to jump in blindly....well most of them, he could understand the elf's belief. Still, he wasn't one to rely on others, and quickly cast Light on his dagger. Giving a glance to Radgar as he casted his spell, Kai would casually speak to the man, "If you want to watch our backs and make sure whomever is down here can't escape or use the children, that's fine too." Thankfully, he both knew how to swim and had the common sense to not slow himself down with needlessly heavy armor.
With his glowing blade now illuminating the darkness, Kai's gaze would sweep the undercroft of the building, looking for anything, or anyone, of note.
@Danse - Though he was not able to make out many details, Danse's elven eyesight allowed him to confirm Brock's comment. There is indeed some sort of underpier up ahead to the east & south. And was there... another building straight ahead? (East direction)
@Kaisaras - Searching the area with his glowing dagger, Kaisaras was able to illuminate the underside of the building, noting the pilings lifting it above the river and an L shaped pier that connected the lower floor of the fishery to what appeared to be a small and broken-down wooden ship. As he downloaded the lay of the land, he could see small shadows and movement from schools of fish that swam by as well as the shadow of something noticeably larger about 30ft away to the north...
Kaisaras would pay attention to the larger movement then motion to the others to see it too. Taking an action to prepare to avoid any possible damage, he'll approach it, slowly. When he gets within 20ft of it (range for bright light), he'll stop to see what it is.
Kurstin also jumped through the hole to swim with the others. His modified eyes could easily see in the dark, and the studded leather armor didn't impede his swimming. He was not interested in finding out if the big shape in the water was the creature that Hookshanks talked about, so he set off for the old ship to the east! He would grab Brock on the way and say, "Come on, big guy. Let's get out of the water!"
Before Kurstin can move to the old ship, the sudden movement by the larger creature in the water draws his attention. He quickly loads a specially adapted bolt into his crossbow and fires it in the direction of the shadow. It sails through the water and explodes in a photo-luminescent cloud, outlining everything in its 20' sphere in a bright blue light! (Casting faerie fire. The shark must make a DC13 Dex save or all attacks have advantage - meaning it counters any disadvantage for underwater combat =)
"WHAT IS THAT THING!" Brock shouts as he squints hard to see what's happening in the water. With a sigh, Brock turns around and swims towards the shark before diving under the surface of the dark water and attempting to punch the shark in the face.
Attack! Attack: 19 Damage: 4
As the fish dodges his punch, The fighter reaches out and attempts to grapple the creature, gabbing towards its tail fin in an attempt to keep it away from his companion.
(I'm going to keep this Chapter going a little longer before compiling)
