((In this case, if you get close enough to the frog rider, I'll say that you can attempt melee on the rider at disadvantage since it is sitting on a giant frog which is pretty big. So it's pretty high up. It's different when the rider is attacking downwards via melee. It would have a better angle and can move down the mount if needed. Unless I'm missing a rule somewhere. You could attack the giant frog though via melee normally.))
((ranged attacks totally fine vs. the frog rider, of course!))
Korrik, you throw your dart and it sticks into the frog rider, right through its froggy-armor. It farts when the dart sticks in. (-6)
((OOC: oh I didn’t mean it to be. I feel like I accidentally acted out of turn. Just got carried away in all the intimidation antics!! But I don’t think she’d have done that after a blatant charge forward. Hmm sorry. Happy for that to stand though, or I can post something else now the frog has taken an aggressive action. Sorry 100% me getting confused / carried away! Let me know))
[edit: I think I thought posts #1652 onwards was Ben’s, Korrik’s, then Ash’s turn. But it didn’t go like that at all. Sorry. Jumped the gun out of turn :-S ]
((In case @Klein allows Ash to refresh her turn…))
Ash moves north and slightly west, ending up within 20ft from the frog leader, and between/behind the two trees (maybe gaining full cover?). ((Can she attempt to hide using her cunning action, allowing her to attack from hidden to get advantage/sneak?))
From there she will drop her black dagger (free action?), then peek out and equip and throw her white/throwing dagger at the rider/leader. And then duck back behind some cover.
((Ash won't be able to hide because the frog leader and the frog already see her. I think if Ash moved forward and then tried to hide behind the tree, it'd be obvious to them where she is. Even with the natural 20 I don't think it's even possible to try. I feel hiding might only be able to be used if you're not already seen. Let me know if I am totally wrong on that! That being said, I'll definitely give you the cover behind the larger tree, although it'll only be 3/4 cover as they can still see you and target you. (+5AC). If the frog/leader were to move around the tree though and then attack you, then that cover won't be applicable anymore.))
Ash moves forward and ducks behind a tree, peeks out and chucks her throwing dagger. It hits the leader close to where Korrik's dart did, and sticks through its froggy armor and into its flesh. (-8)
The frog leader is up - but I'll have to continue after my morning routines. In the meantime, let me know if my rulings with Ash are sound/make sense. Thanks as always
((OOC: I’m still learning rogues. And put a lot of question marks because I’m not sure! But your rulings make sense and I’m very happy to go with that. I had a feeling it would go like that… but when I saw that Nat 20 stealth!!! Lol but you’re right, you don’t magically vanish or anything so it makes total sense, thanks))
The frog leader doesn't like the incoming projectiles sticking into it, that's for sure. It tries to swat them off its body but to no avail as they are in pretty deep. It then takes a different type of stance on the giant frog (toad), trying to avoidany other projectiles that come its way until its mount can get closer to the party.
Ess watches Ash move forward but does not follow."Hey, you said to stay back! What are you doing! Be careful! Fork!"and then he takes a shot with his longbow at the leader, hoping he has the same aim as before when he shot the other frog.
Ben, your crossbow bolt goes wide. The frog audience also gives you and the others the same wary glance back.
The giant frog (with the leader riding, but leader not attacking until its turn nxt round) then scoots south towards the tree that it saw the tasty looking cat-like creature try to hide behind. Ash, the frog has a perfect view of you now and so you don't get the benefit of the cover. You can see now that it has bumps all over it and it looks more like a toad than a frog. And it tries to bite you!
Bite: 16 Damage: 10
if that hits, add 3 poison damage, and Ash would be grappled. Until that ends, Ash is restrained, too.
All of that happens!
The frogs around the perimeter continue to cheer. Some of them have a wary look on their face, while others seem confident of their leader and its performance so far. They take no other action.
Korrik, you move forward and unleash halfling hell on the giant toad. The staff actually penetrates the frog's skin. Your fists smack the large bones and you feel the bones crack when you connect. (19-5-6)
Ash, you indeed wriggle free quite easily after Korrik properly batters the thing and then have no problems disengaging and retreating a bit back towards Ben.
Korrik, the frog leader looks at you with his big eyes as you attack its mount. It tries to swing it's mace down towards you in retaliation in an attempt to stop you from hitting it's mount. It is using two hands to swing the mace, and you can see that this frog is quite agile on top of its mount and seems to have an advantage when attacking from it. Korrik, the frog leader would also try and take a nip out of you as it retracts the mace after it swings it and then scurries back up closer to the top of the mount.
Quick nip: 9 Damage: 5
Mace swing: 23 Damage: 10
If that mace hits, please roll a STR check, DC 13, knocked prone if fail.
"FORK BRO!"Ess yells out as he sees Korrik take the mace hit. "Ben Bro! Help!"
He fires another arrow at he leader, hoping he can get the same shot as last time. he thinks about taking out his sword, but doesn't have the guts in the moment to get closer. hold still
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Korrik it was a save, but that roll failed. You are prone))
Ben, the frog leader looks at you with eyes wide. You're pretty far away but you can still see its huge eyes bulging out. It didn't like your words nor your tune. (-13). It hated your song so much that it immediately leaps off its mount, high into the air and then landing 20ft behind it.
Korrik would've had an attack of opportunity on the leader, at disadvantage due to the frog leader being high up on the mount, but he's currently prone so I don't think he'd get it. Unless you can stand and then attack using a reaction? Seems unlikely to me!
The giant frog is next.
It tries to bite the prone halfling.
Bite: 22 Damage: 5 + 9 poison damage if hit, and grappled/restrained.
The frog's jaws clamp down on the prone halfling. Korrik, you can't take the pain from the strength of the jaws, and you go unconscious. Your body I suppose is also grappled and restrained. Yes, the giant toad will keep ahold of you I will say. It might not necessarily know that you are KO'd, and will likely try and swallow the next turn if it makes it there.
The frogs around the perimeter continue to cheer for their leader. They take no other action.
((In this case, if you get close enough to the frog rider, I'll say that you can attempt melee on the rider at disadvantage since it is sitting on a giant frog which is pretty big. Ben sighs at everything counting on him, again. Lucky these three have him.
He thinks of the most unpleasant song he can. While he is thinking he off handedly yells to the boss frog,
"I don't know what is uglier, your face or that frog's behind."
He then leaps into an off key rendition of a grating hymn from some podunk religion.
