This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I am picturing a flat marsh without overly many trees" -> yes exactly. Slowly changing into a not so nice beach, but beach nonetheless. The fact that you guys head about 30 minutes south definitely helps with the cleanliness of the campsite but I mean you are still in the marsh section on the map. So it's not the tropical beach white sand at all!
"Hmmmm... yeah, stashing it sounds better than carrying the stuff, homeboys!"
Ess will follow Korrik and start to dig. Before he does, he will look at Ben, take out his strength potion, and say "BRO! I can just use this and dig the hole in no time."
short pause
"BAHAHAHAHA! Gotcha, bro!" and he puts it back.
(He is giddy after his short rest.)
Ess gets to the spot Korrik points out.
STR 15
((wait does someone have a shovel? Ess doesn't))
Camp encounter roll: 14
Ok, no encounters. Camp is uninterrupted, and Ess digs the hole assuming he has a shovel?
"Ess, bro, is this going to be an every time thing?"
The next morning Ben is ready to go meet a queen.
"We go in openly, I'll hold the shield and we all shout the phrases we learned to speak with the queen. Non-hostile unless they get hostile. Everyone okay with that?"
If everyone is onboard he's ready to head to the cave.
((good point about the basilisks - also for the crocs, when Kay met Ben!! I think Ben had a small hand shovel, didn't he? I believe he picked one up on the way to the beach. Ugh, so long ago! Anyway, I am adding one to Ess's inventory either way))
Ess responds "heh heh... maybe, bro." and he smiles widely at you as he pats the potion by his side.
He also says to Ben"Ok, sounds good, and like you guys said, I will try and keep this here mace outta sight. And yeah bros, I'll wear the shield. The thing kinda fits nicely around my forearm anyhow." he shows it to you all. "Ok homeboys and Ash, I'm ready to rock."
((still have to fix Ess's stat block! Once I do I'll have you all look it over to make sure it's all good.))
Ok, you all get a long rest. It is a sunny day but still feels gloomy in the marsh somehow. It takes you the half hour to get back to position B on the map. Is the plan to go to the 'main' entrance that was described by the lizardfolk which is position C, or will you try and go to position D, where the secret entrance is? The answer seems clear (C), I am just making sure, and buying time so I can get the map ready. It's a cool one!!! :D
((Ben is pushing main entrance, this is an ambassadorial mission not a spy mission. Though there will definitely be spying done, just of the official variety!))
((Agreed. Diplomatic mission through the front door. Announcing our approach and being invited in…. And that’s coming from Ash, lol, a master [redacted])).
Re: the armor, thanks for looking back! Ok cool, I've deducted 10gp, and Ess knows about the armor and what it does."Cool bros! I never took swimming lessons anyways boys! Hey Ash, how do you do in water?" and he gives her a playful joking look, in his mind anyhow since he is assuming that 'cats' don't like water.
Ok, diplomatic mission, front door, got it. I will set up the map now and hopefully have it out today. I will give you the opportunity to have a peek at the map and where your characters are situated before anything goes down.
Ok, the party packs up camp and heads towards the cave. Ess has a 2 man tent, and I think one of you also has one? It was likely a great sleep, no interruptions and you feel great heading to the lizardfolk cave in the morning, say 9:30am after some breakfast. Ess removes 1 ration unless Korrik had something else to cook?
The party does not meet any other frog people as you make your way to the cave.
Upon arrival to the lizardfolk cave, ('point C' on the Marshswamp Region tab)
A cave entrance yawns thirty feet wide and fifteen feet high. The marshy ground turns to mud near the cave, and tracks from large creatures pass in and out. Inside the cave, the floor consists of thick mud, and you will find it impossible to move at normal speed. This area is difficult terrain. The mud inside there is 15 inches deep.
The cave reaches a height of about forty feet. At the far side of the cave, a narrow stone pathway connects two arched entrances that lead deeper into the hillside, one in the northeast corner of the cave and the other in the southeast corner.
You also notice that 6 really big lizards are slopping around in the muck. They probably notice you since you aren't being stealthy, although you're still far enough away that they don't seem to be bothering with you at this point. It is unknown how they will react if you get close to them.
I haven't added the party's icons to the map yet as you're not that close but you can still see the lizards and they see you. Maybe 15 ft west of the new map.
Let me know how you would like to proceed here and/or if you have any questions, and then I will add the player icons once you guys get closer. Hopefully I'll have Ess's done :D
Map is updated (new 'Cave' tab).
I also added the giant lizards to the 'Bestiary' tab.
"Well. Those six look bigger and stupider than the ones we were hoping to meet. Shall we see if we can get the attention of the others? I'm not especially enamored with trying to get past those."
If no one objects he thermaturgy his voice to be much louder and then yell towards the cave the phrase asking to see the queen. He will wait and then repeat for a couple of minutes.
Ash agrees with a curt nod, but she’s also looking disgustedly at her feet and legs, shin-deep in mud. Her fur already stating to get matted, and it’s not even lunchtime!…
Ess agrees with the plan to call out, and also isn't super happy about all the mud. "Yeh bros, no way. Those things are too big."
Ben, your voice booms towards and inside the cave. It gets the attention of the giant lizards, more so than when they saw you when you first arrived. It seems they were a bit angered by this and started to rustle around a bit more, but not engage or run after you or anything like that.
A few moments after the lizards start getting agitated, 3 lizard people enter the cave from the northeast passage. They must've heard Ben's voice along with the riled up lizards. They start yelling back at you in draconic which none of you understand, and as you perhaps repeat the various phrases that you learned, the lizardfolk just continue to try and talk back to you, and they seem to be getting agitated that you're just repeating the same thing over and over. After a bit of this, one of them runs and disappears down the southeast passage, and after a few more moments, 4 more lizardfolk return from that passage, along with 2 that look quite different than the others that you're getting used to by now.
The first one has different armor (well, it's actually wearing armor as opposed to the lizard's natural skin) and it has a different weapon.
The second one clearly practices in magic. It has no armor, no shield and no weapons.
Both of these lizards have been added to the bestiary tab at the bottom. They also both speak common, although broken. It's much better than the lizardfolk from the ship though.
The strong looking one yells out "hssssssss QUEEN! What business of queen you have?!?!"
The other lizards all have their weapons drawn and seem nervous, wary, curious and confident all at the same time. They have instructed the giant lizards to create a perimeter in the cave as well.
Map is updated. (I didn't update the pics yet on that map, just for Ess. I will do that ASAP!)
Ess is just standing as still as can be. He's still kind of fixated on the giant lizards and is only half paying attention to the conversation.
The strong lizardfolk responds "Marshswamp? Weapons? Hsssssss... growl" The stronger looking one and the magic user then start to talk in draconic. They point to the shield that Ben is holding more than a few times during their discussion.
Korrik, you see a giant lizard start to full on roll around in the mud and it seems to be enjoying itself. It is getting bored of the 2-legged things talking.
Ash, you see another one do the same thing.
One of the lizardfolk then comes over and yells at them in draconic, hits them with its shield, and they stop rolling around.
The strong and magic lizardfolk continue to discuss something in draconic.
After awhile, the stronger one says to Ben"Yes. Yes. Queen you shall see. We bring you. Just you."and it points to Ben.
The magic user speaks in common for the first time "Friends wait here." and it points to Ess, Ash and Kay.
The regular lizardfolk take a guarding stance towards Ash, Ess and Kay and they order the giant lizards to do the same. A few of the giant lizards start to hiss and growl, and they get smacked by the lizardfolk and then calm down a bit.
The stronger lizardfolk and the magic user prompt Ben to walk with them along with 3 of the regular lizardfolk.
Ess says faintly "Ummmm..............?"
Will Ben go with them alone?
If so, what will everyone else do? Wait?
If Ben agrees, I will then uncover Ben's route to the Queen or to whatever the destination is that they bring him.

"C'mon Muscle Bro, up here, should stay dry even when the tide is up.", Korrik directs Ess where to dig.

If they are close enough he doesn't need to yell, Ben will just talk. He keeps it short and clear and generally flat in tone.
"Hello there! We are from Marshswamp. We would like to speak with the queen about the weapons she is having brought in."
He will then tap the shield he is carrying with the lizard face on it that they confiscated from the weapons.
"Is she available?"
He also tries to convey a relaxed attitude about it. No hands on weapons, etc.
((18 persuasion is probably good enough for this encounter?))
Korrik does his best to look non-threatening, but also non-edible, and waits for Ben to lay on the charm.
