((I think we need to wait the hour. Kay's ki and Ben's bardic will refresh along with Ess's second wind. Plus whatever HP you get from burning hit dice. Drinking all the potions puts us in a bad spot, Ben isn't much of a healer.
@Klein, wait on the purple people eater over the grate until we get back.))
Ben would agree that an hour is all they can spare but does inquire if the dwarves have any health potions they could purchase.
He'd pass his normal healing potion to Ess,
"Use this before the big one, and hold off on the toe nail juice. Bro."
((True. Korrik has 2 regular healing, which on average would put him at 18/33 HP including what he has now. He'd be down to just a big one, which is enough to bring him very nearly to full. Not sure where Ess is, or what other potions remain, but the payout is good enough not to sweat a few hundred gold in potions if we are in danger of having this become an underwater recovery or get paid nothing. But a short rest would certainly give us better prospects of being able to push the rest of the ship.))
"Agreed, a quick break to recuperate then back on."
((If the dwarves have potions, Ben is negotiating a buy!
Ya, I think once we get back we search that room we cleared and Ash can check down the stairs(?) before Operation Grate goes into effect. Don't want trouble coming from two directions.))
Ben, the dwarves do not have any healing potions at all, let alone for sale. It was just the ones that Aubreck bought for you that were on the ship.
Ess grabs the healing potion, pockets it and says "Cool man. Will doo-lio." (I forgot to update Ess's HP on his character sheet during battle. Will try and remember next time so you all can see his HP.)
@Grwobert - the room you just cleared has stairs going down. Also, the dwarven ship, the Soul of Winter, is only 500 ft away from the Wave Widow. The rowboat is in the middle waiting and ends up getting you all, bringing you back to the Winter, and you all get your rest. The dwarves would ask what has happened and would reinforace the fact that they don't think you have much time until that 'piece of shite' sinks to the bottom of the sea. They are reluctant about this rest you're taking but the captain is ok with it. "Do what ye's want, but I'l tellin ye, that scrap's gonna sink sooner than later! Healing potions? Nope, whatever Aubreck bought and stowed for ye's is all I got."
So I'll call it 1 hour and 30 minutes for the rowboat to the Winter, rest and then back to the Widow. You can all roll hit die for the rest! Ess recovers the second wind and uses 3 hit die. No CON bonus for him. 9. (he had 9 HP previously)
Prisoners returned+ 9 / 03:30AM / The Wave Widow
Upon getting back to the Widow, things seem the same as earlier. The ship hasn't begun to sink yet.
You think.
Will you check on the corpse that is on the grate bleeding down, and then over to the room that you had just previously cleared? Or did you not end up putting the corpse on the grate yet?
Anyone who would actually search the cleared room please roll a perception check.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Ash wouldn’t want to go back to the Winter, if it extended the rest longer than the hour. Can we retcon so that doesn’t happen? And stick tight to the hour only? She had some ideas, but only if it wouldn’t extend the hour’s rest timeframe. Sorry. Thanks)).
((We want the best margin against sinking we can, if we rest! :-) ))
((Happy with a shorter timeline if possible for the rest, otherwise it is what it is and we'll make do!
@Klein and Grwobert, you should add the 1 HP the song of rest granted. It ain't much but it might matter!))
Once back onboard, and after Ash has confirmed there was nothing else going to jump out in that room, Ben would head in to give things a once over.
Perception: 11
(Hard to beat Ash's passive 17! Got some cleric numbers there.)
He'll also consider the pile of skulls. Are they all human? Is just a pile of leftovers or does it look like they were put there on purpose? Does he recognize who the altar would be to?
Religion: 7
(Okay, this should only be a 15, not an 18. Totally the wrong modifier. Too many characters.))
Once that has been done he'll converse with the others quietly,
"Okay, do we want to check down the stairs then try with the creature's body on the grate or the opposite way around? Also, do we have a means of barring that other door, just in case?"
((Just re-read the room description and saw you called it an altar, not a pile of skulls so I edited the description of the search.))
“We could do both?… blood drips and inaccessible food (or maybe accessible food, for the smaller ones) might be a nice distraction?…“.
”… We could always leave a lookout in the cleared room? We’re only peeking down the stairs first, after all. They’ll still be nearby. They can see on deck but still be on hand when the need arises…”.
”I can go first and sneak a look if you like?”.
((OOC Thanks I had forgotten you’d rolled that already. I would have still used the 2nd dice and filled up. Ess could do with that extra 1hp though I think ;-) ))
((I'm not sure what you're suggesting Grwobert? We're planning to do both the check down the stairs and body on the grate, it's just the order we're not decided on. Right? So Ash means to toss the body on first?
Either way-))
"Bimz could stay on watch up here as we go below to ensure nothing comes up behind us without us knowing about it."
He looks to Bimz to see that he is okay with that then says,
"If you can perhaps just poke your head stealthly below while Ess, Kay and I wait at the top of the stairs? That would give us an idea of what we're dealing with there without exposing you to undue risk. From there we can, hopefully make a clearer assessment?"
He ends with a question as he isn't really sure of the best path.
((@Klein, the doors to the rooms swing inwards, yes? Do the have handles or something solid on the outside?))
((OOC: yes sorry I wasn’t clear! lol of course we need to do one first. I just meant let’s do the body and immediately scout down the stairs. Also, was Ben suggesting Bimz poke their head down the stairs or Ash? Cheers. Grwobert (and Ash) is pretty chilled on the details though as I don’t think it makes a huge difference. But everything at once might be best for timings/speed too. So… Body, … straight away, Bimz or Ash stealth-peek… go from there? Ash is +10 to stealth))
((oh and I think you’re thinking rope the other door closed like before first of all. That sounds good)).
((Many spiders are able to walk across the surface of the water, and there is a diving bell spider that makes an underwater air bubble!))
((If we think we can wait the hour, otherwise it's quaff a bunch of potions and push on...))
