A bleary eyed Korrik stumbles down from his room, yawning and rubbing a hand through his hair as he makes his way to a table. When a server comes to check on him, he'll place an order.
"Coffee... black, double strength... double sugar... please...", he croaks.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
DM:Forged in Chaos, Spiders of the Abyss, The Sundered Way, Champions of the Citadel
He will find Ben down enjoying a breakfast and chatting with anyone that will chat back, preferably female.
"...and then I sank the arrow deep into the beast's eye, killing it and saving my sickened comrade! Oh there he is now. He used to be of average height before the basilisk bit him!"
He chuckles at that comment while eyeing the coffee in Korrik's hand before checking to see if anyone else is coming from the direction of Korrik's room.
Ess would be moments behind Korrik and also sees Ben at the table. "Morning guys! Man, did I ever have a great sleep! It's amazing what a few beers and a comfy bed can do, huh guys? How'd you guys sleep?" he just now really sees Korrik. "Oh man... you look tired bro. Did you not sleep well my homie?"
Ben, prior to this, a group of fishers who are headed out for a day's work on the water would be listening to your story. They would be ok to talk to you as they recognize you from your performance the night before "well we get a lot of stories, most of 'em tall ones, about water monsters, but we don't get a lot about things like, what was it called? A baseelick? Anyhow, that's quite a story, Ben was it?"
You all would get a complimentary breakfast, albeit small, with the price of the room. Some various breads and cheeses, different juices and some fruit. Korrik you'd definitely get your coffee as well. Ess would say over breakfast "So guys... you think that haunted house could be the same one on the scroll we found? Maybe some more folks know about it around town? Anyways, I don't care what we do, I'm just super pumped to get the day started guys!"
What is the plan for the morning? It's pretty early still, not quite 9am I'd say.
"Never really fell fully asle--", he interrupts himself with another yawn, "... fully asleep. This should help though."
He takes a long sip of his coffee, savoring its warmth. He eats sparingly of the breakfast, but has at least another coffee or two.
"I'm up for whatever you guys want to do today. If the market's something that runs every day, I'd like to check that out since we missed it last night. How far out of town's that house supposed to be? I mean, we could show the sketch to a local, but that might be tipping our hand... or it could all be a big prank to drive up tourism... you know, send a bunch of pamphlets up and down the coast that all say 'Come to Marshswamp!' and that helps keep the taverns full and people bringing coin to spend here."
"Apparently it's called a base-el-isk. Honestly had no idea what it was, one of the guards at the gate identified it. If you're so inclined you can ask them, or the folks at the temple. They got a good look at it before we planted it. Had turned a bit ripe, couldn't find a buyer for it's remains. Yes, Ben. I'd be interested in hearing your tales this evening if you're around? Also looking for a new story for a song. You'd get a beer or two out of it!"
To Korrik, after a smirk and wink about not sleeping. He comments,
"I unfortunately had an uneventful night! Still recovering, you understand."
Then,
"It's close, according to the map. We can probably walk over and see if it matches the picture and scout it out. I can do some checking for magic to see if the are actually ghosts and if there are I'd rather go in during the day than at night."
He nods to Korrik's suggestion,
"That sounds like an excellent con. If the town did that I would be most impressed! Angry, but impressed. After that whip incident I'm a bit more cautious though.'
Ess would respond to Korrik"Hmmmm.... dude... maybe you're right. I mean, we went to a lot of trouble to get that scroll in the first place way down in the ground on the beach that day. Hey, that was one thing that the blasted DRG was good for, yeah!? hehehehehehehehehe! Remember that hehehehehehe shite lads!?
He probably laughs loud like that, mimicking his old laugh, and it's awkward as a few people look at him like he's nuts. He then immediately keeps quiet and blushes.
"but yeah... maybe let's not go showing that picture around. I think from the map that we got from the store the place looks about a few miles away. Won't be nothing for Betty and Swiftwind. Man... I dreamed last night that we find hundreds of platinum in there. Imagine that!? If it;s the same place as in the scroll, I'll shite myself."
Ben, the locals in the inn this morning said they'd likely be out on the boat for the next few days on a big fish hunt, but that if you're still in town when they get back they'd definitely take you up on some more story telling and listening!
((if you guys do decide to take a quick trip out to that location this morning, would you take the carriage with you? If not, arrangements likely would need to be made to keep it at the Snapping Line Inn while you are gone.))
((Leave the carriage, take the horses. Should be a pretty short ride?))
To Ess,
"How did the DRG know about the chest in the first place Ess?"
Then to both,
"We'll scout it out. If it looks safe enough we can try poking around inside. Sounds like the locals are pretty scared of the place so whatever was there is hopefully still there. Thing is figuring out how to deal with ghosts. You able to punch a ghost Korrik?"
You would've known the general location of the supposed haunted house with great treasures and relics, and likely didn't stop in the village of Marshswamp just given your race. So, let's assume that you actually make it right to the place. We will fast forward the trip south from Neverwinter as we kind of discussed in our 1:1. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the maps on any of the tabs in our google sheet as well as the trip south. It'd take 3 days.
Once you arrive, you'll see the house is a bit south of the village, about 4 miles. The road to the house from the village winds through the rocky coastal terrain, often offering a view of the sea below. Low clouds press upon you; occasional patches of sunlight appear out over the water. A stiff wind blows in off the waves, carrying the briny stink of churning salt water.
The decrepit house sits on the highest ground in the area. Around it, a stone wall has crumbled in many places, exposing the interior grounds. An ornate metal gate lies open at the end of the road, swaying slightly in the wind. Wild flora grows throughout the inner yard, but all the years cannot hide the evidence of a well-tended garden that once sat here. Near the house, the rotted wooden roof of a water well rises out of the tall grass.
I have added an image of what the house looks like from the outside on the 'Visuals' tab. It's the image on the bottom right.
I have also added a map to the 'Battlemap' tab with what you can currently see. You aren't really sure which part of the place is the main entrance, but you assume it's the door on the south side of the house.
Lastly, please let me know on that map where exactly you would be staking out the place, and then roll a stealth check. You can basically choose anywhere on that map and then let me know and then make the roll.
Ben, yes you guys can leave the carriage there at the inn. It doesn't smell anymore because you took care of that. You are in the good books of the owner Hanna so I am sure she won't mind you guys leaving it there. Seems there's a lot of room behind the inn anyhow looking at the map of the village.
Ess would respond to Ben "Man, they didn't tell me shite. I was too low in the ranks as I had just been bit a few weeks before. I just heard about it from some of the other ratties when they were talking."
"Ok AWESOME! Let's ride, boys!"
The village is busy again today as you head out and south towards this apparent haunted house.
The road to the house winds through the rocky coastal terrain, often offering a view of the sea below. Low clouds press upon you; occasional patches of sunlight appear out over the water. A stiff wind blows in off the waves, carrying the briny stink of churning salt water.
It takes under and hour for you guys to reach it. It is obvious when you arrive that this is the place. It looks very close to the house on the scroll. I have added an image of what the house looks like from the outside on the 'Visuals' tab. It's the image on the bottom right.
I have also added a map to the 'Battlemap' tab with what you can currently see along with your tokens. It seems the main entrance to the place is right in front of you.
What is next, EVERYONE!! Let me know of any checks you want to make, where you might want to look or go, etc. etc.
"DUDES!!! This has gotta be the place bros!" Ess says. "Doesn't look too haunted to me, bros!"
"I've never actually seen a ghost? Or been to a haunted house, that I know of so...?"
Ben will walk wide around the place not wanting to get too close yet, looking for signs of inhabitants - physical or ghostly.
Perception: 17
He'll then come back to wherever the other two are at and say,
"I can do my check for magic, I'm not sure if I can see invisible ghosts with it but maybe? Going to take a few minutes though."
If they think that is reasonable he will ritually cast detect magic by humming all the spooky tunes he knows. Once it's cast he'll do another wide check looking for, at this point, invisible ghosts.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

As the party approach the house, the wind seems to pick up, and the smell of the sea and salt is strong in the air. But it seems like there might be something else on the air too...
Something just doesn’t seem right about a building way out here. And it seems unusually quiet around the property.
Ben starts to explore around the house. Once he’s out of view of Korrik, heading around the back of the house, the wind carries a faint sound, seeming to emanate from somewhere near the southwest corner of the house...
