Korrik, the remaining locked footlocker does not open when you attempt to pick it.
"Well Kay, I think that 'bout covers it! hahaha"Ess chuckles at Kay as he jokes with Ash. He also takes his share of the coin. "Shanks!" He then says to Ash "Yeah, I'm good. Hey, thanks for asking du.. I mean, Ash. Thanks alot. Yep, so far, so good." he smiles at her.
Ben, you disguise yourself as Willard as you open, walk through and close the door behind you...
"I've got my darts, this room is small enough I'm probably just as well off running up and giving them a good couple whacks. But definitely save it, might be a time I CAN'T get to something fast enough, and shooting it with a crossbow is the move."
((If he can get in range with his 35 ft movement, he can attack once at 1d8+3 and with an unarmed strike for 1d4+3, so he's +5 damage on average (assuming a hit) if he closes to melee vs crossbow. But if he's kiting like we did/tried to do with the crocs, being able to do 1d8+3 at better range with a crossbow is superior to 1d4+3 from his dart.))
He'll head in and poke around the boss's office too.
Investigation: 16
((Ben was a silver short last time, so 2 sp to him, 1 sp to each of the other 3, the remaining 1 gp 2 sp to the petty cash fund?))
((Ash shares out the coins 4sp each and Ess gets an extra 1sp? Can we just assume that we magically eventually get Ben’s share to him so we don’t lose track?))
((Lol cross posts. Lol I can’t follow your coin maths lol there has to be a better way! X-) hehe... as for the crossbow, Ash would have almost identical calculations I think. Although she can close to melee a LOT faster. Three ways to move (move, dash and bonus), and she can double her speed to 60ft for one turn. 180ft without attacking. 60ft still with two attacks or something between the two. Korrik should hold the crossbow. It’s probably academic as I’m sure we’ll pick up another shortly! ;-) ))
((Ben took 1 silver less than the rest of us out of the first set of coin Ash found. So (1g 7s) - 1s to Ben = 1g 6s - 4s one to each = 1g 2s remainder. Just saying rather than splitting that out, it can go in party funds.))
((Dang, that's fast! And you can scale climbable things easily as part of that movement! Korrik can hit 105 ft spending a ki to do it, right now. When he reaches level 6, he'll have 80ft from a move and dash, then a 60ft teleport between shadows. And he can do that every turn without burning resources. So I think at that point, in a race in the dark, Korrik wins in the long run? Ash can only do 90 ft turn after turn?))
((So at lvl 6 you have a consistent 140ft per turn (shadows permitting).... Ash has 180ft every other turn and 90ft each alternate turn... which is an average of... 135ft (shadows or none!). Double dang that’s close! I get a feeling they might engage in the odd race or two, or obstacle course, in their down-time?! ;-) hehe)).
((Or we could do ALL party funds out in the field, then split it out in camp/town. Just needs one of us to be treasurer with a custom ‘coins’ item or something))
((Korrik's already been keeping track of party funds, so can just put all of the 1.70 gp in that for now?))
((Don't you have to stay still a turn after doing the super dash? So Ash can sprint 180 ft. but averages 90 ft whether she's doing it in bursts or not? She'd win on a sunny day.))
((At 9th level he can run across water or along walls, though that's somewhat less cool for shadow monks than other monks, since he could possibly just teleport across the pit/river, etc.))

Ya, toss the 1.6 gold into the petty cash. If this goes well we'll all have a lot more funds for everyone and we can maybe bump petty cash up to 100 gold for incidentals like work related lodging.))
Ash, along with Ben's earlier findings, with those rolls in the boss's office here is what you find during your investigations and searches (there are no locks or traps):
- You find a hidden compartment under the table that holds a spellbook.
- The small wooden box that is under the table holds twelve candles, flint and steel, and a piece of parchment that details methods of communicating with ships at sea.
Korrik, you don't notice any other things of interest in the office.
Ben, you head in and close the door behind you. You head down some stairs...
I have uncovered the rest of the map to save time given PbP, we can say you went to each section very briefly to take a peek. The passages and caverns beyond the secret door all decline perceptibly toward the sea. Some passages are well-lit by torches set in crude brackets on the walls. Some areas are dark. The walls are slimy and the floors are moist, though there are mats in places to make them more easily passable. All these passages and caverns are natural, though there are signs of worked stone here and there; such evidence is found on the stairs leading from the secret door and in places where narrow passages were widened.
You didn't have any real issues with any of the people you see on the map given your auto 17 deception and persuasion, other than a few "WILLARD! Are those dishes done yet! No? Well get the hell back there and finish 'em!" or "Still all clear up there in the barracks Will?"
I won't give you any specific details about any of the rooms in the caves. If there is a room that Ben would've paid special attention to, please go ahead and make the appropriate roll and let me know which room and I will provide details accordingly. Keep in mind, this might look suspicious if there are people in the rooms. Also if you want more information on each of the people in the caves, you can also make checks.
Even though you have the auto 17 CHR, depending on how much snooping around you plan on doing in here along with what you might say to these people once you interact with them will determine if they start becoming suspicious and going to 'check on things'.
"Hmmm... as spellbook. Makes sense that the boss'd have some kind of magic, to have laid out those alarms."
He'll glance over the signaling sheet a bit.
"Suppose we ought to take our positions... Did Ben want us to jump them as soon as he gets back? Or do we stay in the boss's room here and pop out when he signals us? Do we leave the torch unlit?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ash looks around the room...
((Can she take one of the under-sheets off the bed (so the bed still looks made to the casual observer), cut it down and tie it into a loose sash, to go around her body and over one shoulder. Then use the gathered fabric hanging on her hip as a crude ‘papoose’ style satchel? Let me know if she needs to roll or if that sounds easy enough to fashion!)).
If she can make a crude, cloth satchel, she’ll gather up all of the things she finds in the boss’s room. ((OOC: Ash and Grwobert are never precious about loot, and their view is that all loot is party loot unless there’s a good reason)). Ash will hold on to it all for now, but openly share details of what she found with Korrik and Ess (and Ben when he’s back).
She’ll ask Ess and Korrik whether they can make any sense of the boat stuff or the spellbook.
She’ll also take a look at both of those items herself just to see what she can glean from it (if anything)...
Straight intelligence check (arcana/history/etc, all just +1): 9
Ash agrees with Korrik, “Yes let’s take our positions”.
((OOC: I was thinking, hidden but near the secret entrance, might be best? If the stairs are a solid block/pillar then maybe behind there? Or under the first couple of beds? What would be the penalty for emerging from under a bed? Same as from prone? Half movement? What do you think?))
((Or do we need someone near the skeletons? Not at this stage I guess. Let’s leave that until discussing again with Ben. First stage is just incapacitate a few))
Maybe Ash can try the last footlocker again with Korrik’s help?
