DAY 33 - 6:30 PM (just so I remember to keep track!)
Phillip, you're able to get up on that elevated part of the land and I've moved the purple marker to show where you are. Evo and Azaka are at the bottom of the ridge.
At this moment the light is just right and everything seems to go quiet for a few seconds as you're really able to give the horizon a scan.
Something gets your attention to the east, towards the lake of bubbling lava. (#4 on the map). Out on that elevated section with the bridge. Something seems to be going on. You are still quite far away, so you can't see details of everyone, but you see 6 of the creatures shown below along with 3 of what seem to be their 'animals'. (you can roll a nature check, with advantage given your background, to see if you've seen these types of creatures in your life in the jungle.)
They have a grung who seems to be restrained somehow (you're still about 250 feet away, so the details are tough even with the natural 20), but all signs seem to point that there is some type of sacrifice going on.
It seems you've noticed this at a key moment as it seems these creatures are about to dump the grung into the bubbling lake of lava. They are doing some type of organized dance and pushing the grung closer to the edge.
Phillip, what will you do? You think you would have enough time to head down to the ground and tell Evo and Azaka about what you saw, and then the three of you could potentially go over and investigate further, but given what you saw, if you are thinking of rescuing the grung, you know you won't have time to tell the scouting party about it as it seems the sacrifice is about to go down shortly and they are too far away.
Meanwhile, back at the scouting party (repeating, just so it doesn't get lost in the posts!)
Before Alton and Eku were just about to head east to the jaguar shrine, Got-snake is able to see a path where he could essentially slither around the perimeter of the #2 compound, and so assuming he does that, he gets more information about #2 location.
Got-snake, there would be a spot where you could slither up and get a better look, yes. The dogs don't seem to mess with you as you slither around the perimeter, perhaps on one of the ruined structures or along the wall. Either way, you get more details about #2 ->
You can see at least 30 charred corpses scattered across the compound. The wild dogs are eating at one of the corpses and they don't bother with you as you slither along the wall. Like you said... why would they?
Separate from the charred humanoid corpses scattered around, you also see a large pile of what looks like charred 'snake people' corpses on a burnt out pyre along with charred snake skulls and inhuman vertebrae piled with it.
On a wall that you slither around, you notice a symbol daubed in ash: a snake curled in a spiral, gripping a circle in its jaws. Got-snake could roll a religion check to see if you recognize it.
Got-snake, please also roll a perception check as you slither around the compound.
((anyone ever see the dark cartoon 'salad fingers'? Kind of looks like the grung in the pic above! lol))
Got-snake, you'd get no sense either way about the symbol of the snake curled in a spiral, gripping a circle in its jaws. Other than it might have something to do with the snake people, Ras Nsi, etc. but nothing specific. Like you're not surprised to see something like this here given what you already know, but you don't know what it might mean.
However, when you take a closer look around the grounds, among the rubble you see what seems to be a human under a smashed section of wall trying to get out from underneath it. They are grunting and moaning a bit and you can hear this now as you slither a bit closer to what you can now confirm is a male human. He looks and sounds in bad shape and doesn't seem to be able to get out from underneath the rubble.
((There are 6. I think Got-snake would recognize them as jackels. I feel he would've seen them before back home. They seem quite content gnawing away at the corpses. They are about 50 feet away from the person buried under the rubble))
If Got-snake is able to signal to the rest of the scouting party, he'd point his tail at the courtyard. Is there somewhere near where he is that looks like it would support a burly half orc if he were to drop wild shape?

Nature check: 10
Phillip would be ‘intrigued’ by what seems like the ritual sacrifice of a Grung. Unless his nature check throws up anything to make a super-massive difference, he would just calmly watch the sacrifice play out.
He would watch the Grung and how it reacts. He would watch the other creatures to see what they do, and how they do it, and what happens (if anything) after the Grung is disposed of.
He would relay what he’s seen, down to the others… but only after it’s all happened.
Got-snake, Alton and Eku were about to head the other way but as you slithered to check out the walled compound, they both would've waited. So you're definitely able to signal to them by pointing your tail at the courtyard. Eku still in panther form watches the Got-snake from the entrance of the compound and kind of pads very slowly closer to Got-snake.Eku would start to also see the moving around of the rubble where Got-snake is pointing to now as she slowly approaches.
Alton, I assume you will follow Eku as she slowly enters as well?
Got-snake, you think there seems to be a spot quite close to the rubble where the person is buried that has some solid larger slabs, yes.
Meanwhile, Phillip, you've never seen these types of creatures before, but they kind of look like plants, and you've heard stories of creatures in the jungle that have a humanoid shape but are actually plants.
Assuming with that information that you just calmly watch the scene unfold, you'd see the creatures continue with the ritualistic dance, and then the creatures would proceed to push the grung to the ground and roll it off the edge of the cliff into the bubbling lava. The grung evaporates instantly as it splashes. You can barely see this though as you're pretty far away. However, you do notice that a few of the creatures actually leap off after the grung, seemingly caught in the throes of devotion. After this, the plant creatures leave the outcropping and then go down southeast and into the jungle leaving the city limits.
After you relay this to Evo and Azaka, Azaka would respond "Wow. Plant people you say? Yeah I've heard of them.... not sure I've seen them though. Wish I could've came up with you to watch the show. Er.. wait. P'Lip. Are you ok? Seeing the grung and all?" she shouts up. (or did P'Lip come down now?)
Phillip has been periodically climbing half way down, to relay any news, and then heading back up to take up his lookout position again.
He’d respond to Azaka with, “Ah! I’m sorry I didn’t call anyone up! Uh huh, uh huh!… … It wasn’t entirely clear what was going on. Yep… Until it happened! Uh huh. Hmm… … I’m sorry!….”.
And then “The jungle is a brutal place. Uh huh, yep!… … Creatures live and die… Live and die… … The Grung are as brutal as the rest. Hmmm?… yep yep yep… … I know this. Uh huh… … …”. He trails of, but looks pretty balanced and philosophical about it all.
He finished with, “More to gain… ‘to learn’… ffffffffff-P’rom watching. Uh huh… than intervening! Yep yep yep… Learned a lot! Uh huh, yep!…”.
((Nope, the Gotur-supportive slabs are in the opposite direction. So like maybe 60-70 feet away from the dogs who are still chowing down on the charred corpses and looking like they are enjoying it.))
Eku paws into the walled courtyard ever so slowly, waiting to see what Got-snake does. Alton follows equally as slowly, right behind the panther form. The jackels would notice Eku and Alton as they get closer but just continue to eat away at the burned corpses, seemingly not interested in a panther and a halfling slowly walking into the courtyard. I think both Eku and Alton would also be well aware of these animals as they're pretty common, which is why I added the statblock.
Azaka responds to Phillip and Evo "A dangerous and brutal place indeed." and she reaches back and makes sure she has all of her arrows ready in her quiver. Phillip returns to his lookout location and notices that the creatures that dumped the grung into the lava are completely gone now. Phillip resumes his lookout. Let's get a fresh perception check as it may be needed.
Got-snake will slither down and towards the trapped fellow, keeping an eye on the jackals. He's hoping as long as they don't seem to be threatening their 'food' they'll stay put for now.

Got-snake, you slither down towards the trapped fellow. You check the jackals and they are continuing to eat at the corpses.
As you get closer, you see a human man shown below (but picture him in much worse shape than the image, haha!). He's wedged under some rubble and only his head and upper torso are exposed along with one arm. Got-snake could make a medicine check to determine the extent of the man's injuries. As Got-snake gets closer, the man would groan a bit and start to try and shoe you away with his one exposed arm, likely afraid of being bitten by the snake.
Meanwhile, Phillip settles into his lookout spot and takes another look around. Nothing out of the ordinary catches his eye in this moment (I mean other than the vast wonderous mysterious lost city that he sees perched up there! There is no sign of the plant creatures anywhere anymore.)
Got-snake, you are able to get a pretty good assessment of the man's current state.
He's clearly exhausted, starving and likely dying of thirst. He's been here more than a day, you can't pinpoint how long though. The arm that is sticking out is visibly broken, and you can only assume what the state of the buried part of his body is in.
He continues to try and shoo you away as he grunts. He tries to spit if the snake gets close, but nothing comes out.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gotur will slither off behind the rubble and shift back to half-orc form before crouching and coming back around. ((Looking to stay out of view of the jackals, and not reveal to the guy that he was the snake.))
He'll pull out his waterskin and dribble a bit into the man's mouth.
"Easy now, I'll see what I can do to get you free, but there are wild dogs nearby, so stay quiet."
He gives him gradual drinks of water, not looking to overwhelm him. He'll also feed him a goodberry once he's had a drink.
Gotur will get his hands under the rubble as best he can and try to shift it at least enough that the fellow can squiggle free.

Gotur, this courtyard is pretty big and so there is room off of the slabs to change back to your true form without the man seeing you. As you approach the man again, the jackals see you as they take momentary breaks from their chewing (which looks quite desperate) and then they just go back to gnawing the hell out of the corpse that they're working on.
Pantheku pads forward a bit, but does not change shape. The jackals seem to be more annoyed seeing a panther come into the courtyard vs. seeing the half-orc, but still they continue to eat at the corpse. She takes post and watches the jackals, ready to change shape and attack should they decide to run at Gotur.
Alton follows Pantheku. He notices that the jackals were the most annoyed at the panther than anything else. Again, they continue to eat the corpse.
(Alton and Pantheku are not beside Gotur or anything like that. The man under the rubble doesn't notice Alton or the panther yet.)
Gotur, when the man sees you, his eyes widen and he immediately starts pleading for help. He sucks in the drips of water and says "mmmmmore! more water! more!"as you gradually give him the water sips. He also chews up the berry and swallows and almost chokes (+1) and continues to take more water.
You're easily able to clear the rubble off the man. The amount and weight of the rubble wasn't the issue. It was more his current state, him just not having the strength to move them. You see his legs are badly injured as well as one of his arms. He likely has a plethora of internal injuries as well. He is able to get out from the rubble now that you've helped, and he manages to get out "ughhhhhhhh.... thank you, whoever you are. Wild dogs? Those are the least of my concerns in this place"*cough cough cough* and some blood comes out of his mouth. "Who are you? Why are you here? Are you here alone? ughhhhhhhhhhh...... I need healing. My injuries are severe. ugghhhhhhh.... we should leave before they return. Have you a camp established here? ugghh........" and he kind of continues to moan as the conversation continues.
