Phillip is very pleased with his new sling. He will rummage in his belongings and say to the soldiers that gave it to him, “I will remember you all… uh huh!… whenever I use it! Yep yep yep!… And here! It’s not much but…”. He gives them one of his more exotic arrows. It’s beautiful actually. Exquisitely sharp; a black, ebony shaft; and fletched with colourful, exotic-bird feathers.
((Phillip will leave it to others to decide whether they keep the boats with them or not, but if the party does leave them behind he’ll help them find a place to leave them: undisturbed by animal paths through the undergrowth, off the beaten track. And help hide and camouflage them using natural materials from the surroundings. Survival check if needed: 17 ))
Phillip, the commander is very grateful for the arrow and he puts it up on a shelf which is displaying some small trinkets. "I shall display it here, with pride."
Did you end up taking the canoes? If you ended up hiding them, we will use Phillip's 17 for the hiding of the canoes, and he could actually roll again as someone would've helped him I'm sure, giving him advantage. I will add a marker on the map where you hid them if that is what is happening.
Alright, about the encounter rolls. The one encounter on Day 12 is 5 pterafolk. Anyone with a passive perception of 15 or higher sees them. They see the entire party, and are just hovering and flying through the canopy of the jungle. They do not seem to be hostile, and are not attacking the party or anything like that. They follow the party for only a few minutes, and then they take off. Assuming none of the party does anything, this encounter can be considered completed.
DAY 13 - 8:00 AM
Grungs in the morning. Another hunting party tries to ambush you. 10 of the green ones, and then one red and one yellow if you recall from before.
I'm not going to set up this combat encounter as it will be a wash given the damage immunities of the guides as well as the overall power of the party. However, I don't want to not include the XP that the party would've obtained with the battle, so it is to be assumed that the party had a similar battle with these grungs (or not, maybe you guys talked/explained to this bunch that you just destroyed a previous group and if they want their lives they should leave, now). Either way, XP is earned here for sure, which I've noted. Actually.. it's only fair that you get the 'treasure' cache roll as well, just like last time with the grungs. They beg you not to kill them and tell you about the treasure cache. 8 results to be posted in a new post below.
Both the pterafolk from day 12 and the grungs from day 13 have been added to the Chult map for tracking, and I will add the canoe icon once we confirm hiding or portaging.
Then, in the afternoon, just as the party is about to continue their journey for the last part of Day 13 travel after lunch, they see an odd sight. You see a mouse float through the air before your eyes. And then a mole. Then another mouse. And then a small snake seems to slither through the air. None of the animals are harmed. Only maybe a little scared as they all seem to float back down to the ground and scurry away after they float by.
Then you hear high pitched laughing, almost like a child.
Eku's detect magic as well as her detect good and evil spells come up blank as she would've casted them immediately after seeing this.
Then, after a few minutes of essentially a live small animal floating show, an interesting creature suddenly appears maybe 20 feet away. It's not very big, and I've added it to the Bestiary tab. Maybe a foot long.
It speaks, and only characters that can understand draconic can make out what it says. Eku does, she understands all language. She'd tell the party what it said, which is:
did you like the show?
The small faerie-like creature just hovers, awaiting a response.
Eku would also recognize the creature, and say in common to everyone after telling them what the thing just said. "Ha. It's a faerie dragon. Usually harmless."
Alton gives a small chuckle of amusement and nods to the small dragons inquiry as a symbol of thanks. However, he does not speak more than this, and just stays at the edge of the group and allows others to do the talking.
Gotur, Eku would say that while she's never been to Omu or even close to it, it would make sense that there is likely no need for the canoes should the party decide to head deeper south into the jungles. Azaka agrees. The 21 survival roll will successfully hide them from any travelers who might want to take them. I've marked them on the map in case someday the party comes back this way and wants them.
Phillip, the faerie dragon is very amused with your water tricks, and seems to be very accepting to your friendliness and friendship! It starts to flitter around the party, making cute noises here and there, clearly happy that the party has taken a positive attitude towards it.
It flitters around Gotur and Evo and while it doesn't directly answer them, it seems so happy and you can see it smiling at you.
It also smiles at Alton but keeps its distance from him in a respectful way, flittering 10 feet in front of him and giving him a quick show of sparkle dust in the air.
The faerie dragon will not accompany the party - it tells Eku that it has other adventures it needs to get to as well as just do what it is that these little things do, but says it will never forget the party and how nice they were.
Lastly...
The faerie dragon says (all to Eku, of course).
one more game. I pretend I'm a genie. Three questions you get, and three answers you shall receive.
then I shall leave!
Essentially, the faerie was following the party for a while, and took an interest in you all. Since the party was in good spirits with this little faerie, it will truthfully answer three of your questions before bidding the party farewell.
The faerie dragon has visited Omu recently. It also knows things about other nearby landmarks or locations, and perhaps other things depending on what you ask it. If it doesn't know the answer to a question, the question will not count towards the 3 that you get.
You guys can discuss what you might want to ask it, or if someone feels they want to just blurt out a question, have at it!! Might be more fun that way.
You only get 3 though. (Not my call. It's the faerie. haha) Discussed potential questions can be written as non speech, and if you want to blurt out a question just do it with speech format.
Phillip agrees with Evo, “Yes! Uh huh. Yep yep yep… …We should ask about Umo! Uh huh… … Should we ask about Mbala too? Who’s up there? What we’ll… ffffff-P’face… there? Hmmm?… …”. He looks around at everyone for any more ideas too.
“And what undead hordes might possibly be lurking in and around this area.” Alton adds, murmuring softly. He then goes back to thinking, not sure of anything else at the moment.
As the party quickly discusses the potential questions in common tongue, the longer the discussions are, the more unsettled the faerie becomes. (Azaka didn't really have any other suggestions that were really different from what the party mentioned.)
Eku senses that the faerie might be getting impatient, and not wanting to waste the opportunity, she takes stock of what the party has suggested so far. All of the questions seem like they would add value, so Eku takes a breath and speaks draconic to the faerie, asking it the following questions, summarizing the party's input the best she can.
Q: What is going on in Omu? (Evo question)
A: The faerie chuckles. Quite the broad question, but she flitters about as she tells what she knows of Omu. She doesn't know a lot of high level overarching storyline information like things about the soulmonger and the death curse, etc., but she tells you that it must be something evil that's going on because there seems to be evil gargoyles and "snake people" watching over the city at all times. It is a large ancient city which has seen many different types of inhabitants, although she's never known it to be anything else other than what she knows it to be now, which is a lost ancient city that seems to be guarded by those creatures all the time. The 'Forbidden City'. Quite the curious place indeed, she says.
Q: Mbala / Nanny secret weapons (Phillip and Gotur questions)
A: The faerie dragon seems very excited and happy that the party plans on paying a visit to Nanny Pu’pu in Mbala. Eku is thrilled to hear that the hag is still making Mbala her home. "Her fate will be sealed now."Eku interrupts the faerie, then apologizes and lets the faerie continue the answer. She confirms the hag is indeed still there. She resides alone, but the faerie has frequently seen some 'scary flying monkeys' out and about sometimes when she goes near the place. She's also heard some pretty loud smashing noises at times, maybe more like rumbling that the hag isn't likely making, but she doesn't know the source of the rumblings. She confirms Nanny Pu’pu is an evil one and confirms that she did kill all of the people of Mbala. Nothing is really left there other than the smashed ruins and what the Nanny has created for herself. Her and her potential minions which sometimes hags have.
Q: Hordes of undead info (Alton)
A: Alton, from your question about the undead, I have uncovered a large section of the map where this faerie dragon has travelled to show you in more detail about where the sections are. Essentially she tells you all of the areas of the undead. You will all notice some new locations on the map - the guides may or may not know of one or many of them, you can ask them whenever you see fit. Also, you can see that there still might be canoe opportunities down the Aldani basin. Eku was not aware of those offshoot rivers that head south from the basin, although Eku is still on board with leaving the canoes where they are and just hiking it to the next destination after Mbala. Lastly, the faerie will tell you that regarding the undead, there could be undead animals and even undead dinosaurs as well as former humanoid type undead, and the red skulls on the map are where the greater or stronger undead are more likely to be found.
The faerie then makes one last glitter dust appear in the air and then she disappears and you see a trail of glitter dust streak away and then it also vanishes. She's gone.
It is currently 7:00PM, on Day 13. There are no other encounters happening on this day, and Eku is suggesting that the party camps and gets a solid rest so they can strike the nanny on the morning of day 14.
Should you all camp now, you will all awake at L6!
Please feel free to RP your level up either here or in a PM thread, or if you don't have a desire to RP the level up that is totally cool as well - either way, go ahead and process the level up on your character sheets along with any preparations you want to make for the Mbala strike and I will kick that approach off in the next post. Eku will be leading the way, in her flying snake-dragon form.
Let me know once everyone is done the level up - thanks!
(Morning of DAY 14 - Mbala strike) - > next after level ups are complete.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Once they make camp, Gotur looks in the surrounding area for any useful potion materials, having used up the batch of healing potion herbs that he'd bought in Port. If Phillip or any of the others wished to join him, he'd welcome their company. However, he moves into thick brush they can't easily follow and he notices a bit belatedly that the plants almost move out of his way. He wanders in thought for a bit, and the following day will prepare a spell to help him find the plants he needs more readily.
Survival: 10
At 6th level he gets:

Starting at 6th level, moving through nonmagical difficult terrain costs you no extra movement. You can also pass through nonmagical plants without being slowed by them and without taking damage from them if they have thorns, spines, or a similar hazard.
In addition, you have advantage on saving throws against plants that are magically created or manipulated to impede movement, such those created by the entangle spell.
The following morning, he'll be preparing [Tooltip Not Found]
((The faerie dragon provided the names that show up on the map with the reveal, but no info about them? If there were unfamiliar names mentioned, Gotur would ask the guides what they knew about them as we make camp.))
Evo would ask the guides about the "snake people" and "flying monkeys" the fairy mentioned.
That night he will, as is his nightly routine now, kneel facing the moon and pray to Selune. Tonight he will thank her, as he does every night, but will also add an ask,
"As aye travel deeper into this land which has been cursed that aye may help free the world from an even greater curse, aye ask that ye share what of yer strength ye feel aye will need."
As he concludes he sits gazing at the moon for a several long seconds. As he goes to stand he finds himself a foot from the ground, hovering. He smiles at the discovery and looks back to the moon and says while bowing,
"Thank ye, Lady."
He then air walks back to the camp proper, adjusting his elevation as he goes.
