Tell me more about the excavation process Evo had in mind before the hut (which a hammer will totally work to destroy and knock over close to the graves)
A quick review of his inventory reveals no good digging implements so-)
Evo smashes off a piece of board/stick from the hut (unless there is something better in the hut?) to clear a bit of the dirt away so when the fire gets going the corpses will also burn up. He isn't looking to did up rotted chunks of the hag's future dinner.
Azaka and Eku will eventually help Evo with all of this, which I will get to ASAP, but in the meantime, Evo, can you roll another investigation check, with advantage, as you look in the hut before you smash it down.
(there's nothing in there to help with the digging/removing of surface dirt on the graves other than the piece of wood, but perhaps something else of potential interest is in there.)
If Evo isn't going to look around in the hut, then no roll is needed, and he doesn't find anything better than a piece of wood to clear the dirt, and I will get to the description of what happens in the next post.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Investigation of the hag's hut: 20
After poking his head inside the hut and finding nothing to dig with, Evo accepts the shovel with grateful smile.
"Aye don't know who they are or how far gone. In this heat aye don't have any high hopes of them being anything but a mess. Let meh clear some dirt and ye can take a look. When we burn the hut and the hag we'll makes sure these poor folk go up with too. No need for them to come back as zombies or skeletons."
Evo uses the shovel to clear as much of the dirt off the bodies as is reasonable. If they are goopy messes he won't work very hard at it, just clearing what he can do with the shovel from their faces. His goal is to ensure the bodies get properly burned up, not to exhume them.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Evo, you find nothing of value in the Nanny's hut. There are some humanoid skulls, some small pieces of human flash and some dead half eaten small animals. It also smells terrible.
Gotur gives his shovel to Evo and he starts to clear off the dirt from the graves. Azaka helps him. "My paws work well for this." she grins but is 100% serious as she starts to dig and paw away the dirt. She remembers what her and Evo did with the body at Camp Righteous and again gets a good feeling about giving whatever is buried here a better end vs. being buried in a hag's graveyard.
The party is not exhuming the bodies or anything, just clearing away surface dirt to get a look at the faces, and to expose the bodies for burning.
Alton is around the graves as well as he's been helping Evo.
Eku nods at the party's efficiency and hovers around, scanning the area for danger, perhaps joining Phillip's side.
Evo still has the spirits around him, yes?
The digging happens for a few minutes at most, and the party is not able to get to the part where they put the hut and the Nanny corpse on the graves. Or start the fire.
As Azaka and Evo begin to clear away the surface dirt, the mounds of dirt start to move around by themselves, and as more dirt is cleared everyone can really notice the bodies within start to move. With some of the dirt cleared, you can make out that the bodies are humanoid but seem to be pieced together. One in particular clearly has 2 different faces. One half-face is sewed on to the other half of the face. I'm talking full on texas chainsaw massacre-style. The complete bodies are not fully exposed yet, but it's clear that whatever is buried in these graves are 'awake' and upset and are trying to exhume themselves from their graves. (added to bestiary tab - 'buried creature'). It seems the third grave is also moving now even though no one was touching it.
Creatures initiative: 16
We will use the same initiative as previously rolled with the Nanny.
((Guardian spirits lasts for ten minutes and Evo hasn't dispelled them, they are rather pleasant to have around. So if those ten minutes hasn't passed yet, they are still up!))
((OOC: just for fun/realism, should we consider the buried enemies as prone, or having cover, etc? Until they’re not, of course. Or are they already standing or anything? Thanks)).
((good question, yes the partially buried enemies are prone. They do not have any AC bonus from cover, and they will likely have to spend an action to completely remove themselves from the graves to stand up, if that is what they end up doing.))
((Yep 10 minutes is just coming up, so Evo's guardians are still up for this battle. Alton's poison is gone though.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the creatures in the graves moving, Phillip moves over to the eastern-most grave ((I think he can just about get there with his 25ft of movement)).
As he walks over, he draws a little grung-sized rapier (with a dramatic ‘shing!’ sound), and immediately plunges it into the prone monster twice…
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alton jumps with a small yelp, but quickly adapts to the new situation and draws his shortswords. He then plunges them both into the creature nearest to him, gritting his teeth. (Made with sneak attack and advantage due to the creature being prone.)
Alton, the swords sink in nicely and the attacks feel solid, but in this same moment, you get a glimpse of the eyes on this thing, and all you see is evil to the core. The eyes tell you in this moment that the swords did nothing to it and it just gazes at you with extreme anger.
In the next moment, Phillip you rush towards the eastern grave and you repeatedly plunge the rapier deep into the body. All of the plunges seem to go right into the ground and right into the body and similar to the halfling, you get a good feeling initially about these attacks. You feel the blade go into the body numerous times. Then, you also get a look into the eyes of this thing and you can get a sense that your attacks did not harm it because it starts to laugh in a very deep voice, gazing at you with extreme hate and anger after it kind of coughs up some dirt. Phillip, it's clear that the poison also did nothing to these somehow oddly animated corpses. (immune, no roll)
So Alton and Phillip now know that their attacks didn't hurt these creatures. It would make sense in the moment that they'd yell out to the party this information so the others can keep that in mind for their turns and it wouldn't be meta I think.
The 3 bodies now really start to move around, and they all now also begin to half laugh and half growl as they completely exhume themselves from their graves and stand up, raising their arms and now full on yelling. Their voices sound very hoarse and deep, like they are possessed. They all are staring at you with extreme malice. This is their complete turn as that is a lot of action with standing and exhuming themselves.
You now see that these bodies are all sewn together consisting of multiple different body parts all fixed into a single body for each of them. The faces are the worst. They look horrible, almost not even like faces. Sewn together terribly and flaps of flesh falling off.
Evo is up! (please let me know if the two corpses that are near you would've had to roll the save on the start of their turn if the spirits are touching them and I will make those rolls retro!)
Map is updated.
(and let me know if I made a mistake and if any of those attacks are magical!)
((OOC: @DM, Do you think it would be clear to Phillip that his attacks are having no effect after the first two hits? If so, I don’t think he would blow his only action surge. What do you think? Happy either way…
But can I also just say, that was 2x crits and almost 80hp of damage right there!! (all wasted!) lol hehe! Now THIS is going to be a proper fight I think!))
((monsters speed halved also then while in the guardians!))
Evo, the pale blue spirits flit around the two bodies as they emerge and their radiant energy definitely effects the bodies. Saves rolled in the OOC (the wrong one, lol). Both of the creatures pass their save, and each take the 6.
You then call forth the now familiar weapon and it also seems to effect the NW (left) monster as it smacks into it, harming the monster with the magic force damage. It takes the 9.
Lastly, right after you yell "Burn", you see the monster on your left (NW) kind of sizzle as it seems to much dislike this type of radiant magical damage. It takes the 11. The other one shrugs it off.
Azaka is up next. She was frightened when she was pawing at the corpses face and then all of a sudden the eyes opened. It startled her and now seeing Alton and Phillip's weapons not working, she growls but this time much differently than all of the other times she does it. She's scared. I think if we are keeping this real, she desperately and instinctively still tries to attack the one that stood up in front of her, in an attempt to see if her claws and bite (lycanthropy) might have different results. She tries to claw it, and bite it, and she digs in pretty good but it just doesn't seem to harm the thing. So, now she knows 100% that her attacks do not harm the creatures. (not rolling her attacks)
Eku is next. After seeing all of this, she yells out but in a surprisingly calm manor "Friends, these must be Pu'pu's creations. We need to take care. This is my mistake. I should've been anticipating this. I was blinded by my anger." She says nothing more but then flaps her wings and whispers a faint verse as Evo, Gotur and herself feel the blessing magic flow. She'd also move into the fray, knowing that her attacks should be able to harm these abominations. She moves to the one that Phillip is around, sensing that he might need her help.
Gotur, the magical tendril lashes out and as it wraps around the monstrosity around Azaka, you can tell that it doesn't like the pokes from the thorns. It takes that damage, and you pull the creature away from Azaka (let me know if I have the positioning right).

((Hmm... sensing a trap now haha.

Oh, how will you light the fire?
Gotur, seeing Evo mucking about with a board, pulls his shovel off his pack and tosses it to the cleric.
He can also light things with druidcraft.
