I seem to be missing a feat or other element a champion could have. I bet it’s something obvious I’m not seeing in the books...
What grants a high level Champion an extra 2d6 damage on a weapon attack when they have more than half HP remaining? The card indicates it’s for both ranged and melee.
Volos’s Guide to Monsters pg 212 is an example of the stat block showing extra damage.
It is a feature of the creature called "Champion", which actually has none of the class abilities of the Fighter sub-class "Champion". I've looked, and can't find anything that would duplicate this effect in any of the fighter subclasses, or in the list of feats I can find.
Roger. Thank you! I’m a fan of npc monsters being fashioned after what a player could expect to achieve...
Yeah, that seems to be pretty uncommon. For starters, PCs get a lot more features than your average NPC needs. Only spellcasters seem to have a simplified version of the class (usually 1 or 2 iconic features and the spell list).

That’s meant to be a simplified representation of the Subclass’s Improved Critical combined with Action Surge all thrown into a blender and abstracted for the DM. As a DM, having to track all of that stuff can get to be a real pain in the neck, especially when there are lots of different monsters in play. But this is sortakinda close enough to give the right feeling to the players in combat without taking all of that extra time and attention on the DM’s Part.

That's an NPC, their stats and abilities don't match 100% with player character classes. The class doesn't get any sort of damage bonuses.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

The rogue types have sneak attack and the monk types have pseudo-martial arts. But otherwise, yeah.
