So I am playing a cleric and multiclassed into Circle of Stars Druid in order to upgrade my healing, but that has lead to me wondering of a theoretical scenario with Life Transference and how the timing of Starry form Chalice works.
If I had 15 hit points and dealt 24 damage to myself with Life Transference and targeted myself for the extra heal from chalice, would that effectively reduce the amount of damage I take or would it come after the damage is dealt? Would I need to heal myself for 10 to stay standing or would I be picked up with 10 hit points after the damage?
I mean, certainly if it "effectively reduced" the amount of damage you took, then life transference says you can't do it. I would say that you take the damage then heal yourself.
Which means you'd end your starry form, because you would have been incapacitated when you went unconscious.
If you hit 0 you don't get the healing at all. Because the healing is a function of the form you're not in any more.

I'm probably laughing.
It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.

You'd take 24 damage damage and be reduced to 0 hit points, another creature would regains a 48 hit points, making you regain 1d8 + your Wisdom modifier hit points.

There is actually literally a rule to help adjudicate this exact situation.
Apparently, if it is the Druid’s turn, they get to decide the order.
Fantastic catch!
Most effects in the game happen in succession, following an order set by the rules or the DM. In rare cases, effects can happen at the same time, especially at the start or end of a creature’s turn. If two or more things happen at the same time on a character or monster’s turn, the person at the game table — whether player or DM — who controls that creature decides the order in which those things happen. For example, if two effects occur at the end of a player character’s turn, the player decides which of the two effects happens first.

I'd expect you to go to 0hp before getting the hp back from chalice. So you'd be prone with 10hp.

Edit: spell tag
I'd also say the healing comes after.

You are not incapacitated when you cast the spell so your Chalice Starry form is still active at that moment.
Yeah, I'd also say that the conditions for the effect were already met.
edit: deleting incorrect rulings. wolf is correct, below.
