Anyone else think it’s funny the fairy’s flight got nerfed to disallow medium and heavy armor use with the flight, but the illustrations used as thumb nails include a fairy with a shield and scale mail?
That is interesting, but I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate for a bit.
The armor is pretty shiny. It could be mithral scalemail. (It isn't rules as written that the armor being made of mithral would allow them to fly, but it does make sense and I personally would allow it at my table.)
Also, the fairy might not be flying. Could just be jumping.
Or, the art team and the mechanics teams could have not collaborated in such a way that would prevent inconsistences like this from happening.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Oh yea, I admit that there could be all kind of reasons for the disparity. Just seemed funny to me. I’m not sure why I noticed it, but I started thinking about how it might lead to some confusion. I also started thinking “if they errata’d it, would they change the mechanic or the picture?”. I’m sure pictures have been switched out before but I do t know which ones.
at any rate I think it’s an interesting design choice to give negative limitations in a race that impact class choice, which seems to be what the flight related armor restrictions for aaraccokra, tiefling, and fairy seem to be about.
you think it would be a stretch to allow proficiency swaps from the class feature at level 1 similar to the racial swaps in tashas? If a player chooses to be a fairy fighter or cleric, I think I’d allow swapping incompatible armor proficiencies with the weapon/tools.
