I am DMing Out of the Abyss and many of the character and NPCs are suffering from " indefinite madness". The only cure for this seems to be greater restoration. Since when they need to do this, the characters are level 8 and do not have direct access. Since they appear to need to cure over half a dozen NPCs, scrolls or other consumables magics seem to be out of price.
I am looking for any other peoples thoughts on how to achieve this?
Not looking at Out of the Abyss as I type this and typing mostly from memory of read through, but is the party making allies in the Underdark? I imagine some of those allied communities have shaman, healers, maybe full blows Underdark Prestigious University and Board certified psychologists (or maybe alienists would be more apt) who are very familiar with the deleterious affects the Underdark can have on mental health, particularly the parts of the Underdark which serve as contact zones with the lower planes. Lean into favors owed by those allies for healing. Could be some ritual magic you can hand wave (don't ever feel the need to manage NPC and NPC community magic like you would PCs, especially when talking about healing resources). Maybe there's a magic mirror where one is restored by reflecting on their true self. Maybe another community has some sort of myconid derived medicine that can ritualistically bring relief. Etc.
Now if the party doesn't make nice with anybody and has had nothing but armed confrontation with every Underdark faction, well them's the consequences of choosing to be literally alone in the darkness....
Stop trying to cure me, Dad. This is the way I am. We're mad, we're mine , Get USED TO IT! And if you do not set a place for my friend Gregory, I won't eat your food tonight. Just because he is a Gibbering Mouther doesn't mean he can't sit at a table like a real, honest to goodness person.
Seriously, most of the Indefinite Madness stuff is not a real problem. Just go with it. Eventually they will get high enough level to start curing it.

Thanks, Balar
Madness is baked into the campaign - party members are meant to deal with it and/or learn to live with it. Many of the NPCs have various forms of madness built into their personality or background, so curing it isn't necessarily the point.
That said, if it is getting in the way of the campaign, and you genuinely need a way to cure multiple characters of indefinite madness, you could always have them find a suitably-stocked Necklace of Prayer Beads.

Does it need to be cured? Like does the adventure expect them to cure an entire town before moving on?

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
In short, yes.
Several of the monster/encounters give extra exp and rewards for curing their madness.
