My DM might let me have a Juvenile Mimic as a familiar (homebrew rule), and I was wondering what the limits of shapeshifting are? It doesn't specify anything (other than it has to be an object), but I would assume that it can't turn into, say, a massive 5x30 ft. banquet table. Is there any limits to it?
Also, can the Mimic turn into like a weapon? I kind of want a Veteran's Cane kind deal where it can change into a Rapier and I use it in battle.
A Juvenile Mimic that Shape-Shift keep the same statistics, including Tiny size. For the purpose of these rules, an object is a discrete, inanimate item like a window, door, sword, book, table, chair, or stone, not a building or a vehicle that is composed of many other objects.
You should check with your DM which weapon you can polymorph into.
Shape-Shift. The mimic polymorphs into an object or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn’t transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
