I'm getting ready to host my first campaign as a DM. I have a pretty firm grasp on most of the basic DM responsibilities; enough to feel confident going into it. But, one thing I cannot seem to find a concrete answer on in any of the books I've read or forums is related to the XP system. I know HOW players earn XP points but my questions are:
1) What is the standard for how much XP is required for a player to reach the next level?
2) What is the standard for increasing a player's HP once they level up?
3) What is the standard for increasing ability scores once a player levels up?
Example 1: Let's say a player is level 3 and is currently sitting at 1500 XP (random number for argument sake). Where can I find how much XP the player needs to reach level 4?
Example 2: Let's say a player just reached level 4. How many more hit points did the player just earn toward their max HP? Which ability scores increase, and by how much?
The table here shows the total CP needed to reach any given level. A level 3 character would need to reach a total of 2,700 to reach level 4.
When a character levels up, they gain a new hit die. (The total number of hit dice will equal their level. The size of their hit die depends on their class.) The player then rolls the hit die, adds their Constitution modifier, and increases their Hit Point maximum by that amount.
The earliest any character can increase their ability scores is at level 4 when they get their first Ability Score Increase. After that, it depends on the class, as shown in their class table. When a character does get an Ability Score Improvement, they can add +2 to a single ability score, or +1 each to two separate ones. Alternatively, they can forego taking an Ability Score Improvement and take another qualifying feat of their choice.

Thank you so much for breaking this down for me. It was hard for me to pin this down in the books. Thanks.
