I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
I would not have them lose anything except their home. I would treat them more as Ronin [masterless samurai warrior aristocrats of the late Muromachi (1138–1573) and Tokugawa (1603–1867) periods who were often vagrant and disruptive and sometimes actively rebellious.]
It might be fair that they lose some of their power. Or maybe they just become depressed, which would basically amount to the same thing, but be based on emotional rather than a magic connection. It depends on what the precise relationship is between deity and angel.
I would take angels the same way as higher level devils / Archdevils and give them innate powers. In my thinking mighty angels can bestow boons, so they have power by themselves.
Very powerful Archangels might even ascend to demigods or take the seat of the fallen god for themselves.
As you can tell by the responses, anything can happen. In some stories, the highest angel assumes the role of the deity and actually becomes a god. Others, absolutely nothing happens to the angels and they keep carrying on as if the good were on vacation. Ultimately, there is no good answer because there is absolutely no authority on it except for the creator of the story in question (in this case, the GM).
In this case, even consistency of the world can be thrown out because other planes and deities are different from each other.
I think it could also depend on the individual angel. They are all intelligent beings with their own personalities. One might lose hope and just start bumming around on the beach. Another might seek to avenge the fallen god, another could seek to serve an allied god, or whoever takes over the portfolio of the dead god, another could try and find a way to revive the god. And then every 100 years or so they'd all get together and have a class reunion and get super drunk.
As Nightsky is saying, there' nothing RAW for dealing with it. It would be entirely up to the DM how they want to deal with it in their world.
Kay, thanks. So, basically, it;s entirely up to the DM?

Do angels lose their power when their gods die, or do they just lose ties to that dietie and become more like fallen angels?

That depends. Is a Angel’s power innate* or granted^ or some combination in your world?
*like a sorcerer or bard
^like a cleric or warlock
