OK, we pick back up with the group under attack and npc's trying to keep the battle on the sea and out of the city. What follows is a very epic for them and kinda a letdown for me as the bad guys' plan was to get one of the friendly NPCs and use them as a hostage for trade only to kill the hostage at the first chance..That didn't happen as the party actually use their heads and abilities well to do a decent amount of damage. The party got knocked out a few times but managed to get back up. With the help of an NPC who is way more powerful and way more underhanded than the party ever expected ( The Pirate has been suspicious of him for a while) did enough to keep the party from taking to much damage but didn't outright attack the evil pirate.
The battle ends when the monklock paralyzes the evil pirate and the party just beat the hell out of him. at this point I roll for the Fleets moral, they fail and proceed to get the hell out of there. With the Darkwater arrested and the party hailed as heroes, the pirate makes a request that he stand a pirate trial. Sadly every ship still in the port is heavily damaged and will need to be repared. The party takes this downtime to go over what they have left to do.
Kill the vampire the Monklock left unattended in a port city across the sea for the last 4 in-game months ( Long story short he mistook In The House to mean a boarded-up mausoleum that kept a vampire lord prisoner and they didn't kill him when he was weak)
Go into the nearby forest and find Babba Yagga who the untrusty NPC has been working with to do something with poison barries
Go to a hidden island to the north that only the Pirate believes exist.
So the party decides to kill two birds with one stone and while they deal with Babba Yagga they hired ANOTHER adventuring group to get teleported to the Vampires till they can get there.
Enter the most adorable NPC'S ever The Dreamers A halfling forest Druid ( Sundew Lemondrop) riding her giant spider companion ( Arnold) A Human Rogue ( Ann Greenblade) A Elf Bloodhunter Order of the Lycan (Swiftwind) and a Tifeling Cleric of Twilight (Jynx) They have big dreams and jump at the chance to do good. I have been warned not to let the adorable npc party get eaten, killed or turned into or mind-controlled by the vampires
My last session was on tuesday. I've been steadily preparing them for the end of the campaign since I want to do a new story in the same homebrew setting and I feel as if this campaign has reached a bit of a wall. Currently, they're delivering an important item to the ruling body in the region they're traveling in. They're the only group with the capabilities and autonomy to reliably deliver this item to the monarch after the one of the elites from the Cleric's church had to ditch back to the motherland. After some shenanigans on an airship, they were forced to dock in a port city and travel by land and race to the capital. Now, the sessions before this were pretty weird (they included a young red dragon who was also a pirate and a weird conspiracy going on in the port city revolving around a commerce guild and a tarrasque), so I had planned a straightforward travel session with random encounters and an eventual story-based encounter. The story encounter was pretty unique for them; They would be ambushed by two cultists of the melee variety, both of which are not very challenging for their whole group, but are tanky enough to probably withstand a round at least. Then, an archer takes off their cloak of invisibility and assaults them after one round has passed. After another round has passed or one of the two melee cultists have died, the abjuration wizard leader reveals himself and opens up with a level 4 fireball. Long story short, they almost died and the sorcerer (who is fairly new to 5e) experienced his first mage v mage battle, which was very fun for me (and very upsetting for him). It was the first time he'd ever experienced the glory of counterspell.. and globe of invulnerability.. and wall of force.. and an abjuration wizard's arcane ward.. Good times. I promise, I'm not one of those punishing DMs, but I try to give different players a chance to shine, and he really outdid himself in the fight against the dragon (I was very proud of him, seriously!), so I just felt the need to give the other players a chance to show off for a bit.
Ok Short game tonight as one of my players ( The Pirate) just one-shotted Babba Yagga and almost ended the campaign
How the session started: So the players go into the forest and after successful checks make it to her hut. The Monklock knocks on the door and a kind-looking old lady answered her little house looks like a grandma's house. The players saying how they are all going to die because the Monklock is way too trusting.
Tea Time: The party sits down with Babba Yagga and has tea and Dream Pasteries ( I want to run them through Curse of Strahd after this campaign and so the little hints will help later) They discover that the blood barries she has been using have turned her subjects catatonic and she keeps them in the basement. The party goes down there to try and help.
Everything goes wrong: She locks them in her basement as her hut starts walking away. The party busts out of the basement and combat starts'( I remind the party every time their turn comes up that they are in a walking house about 100 feet from the ground) The Pirate casts Psionic Blast ..... she fails her save and is pushed back 20 feet....Out a nearby Widow...Damage for the attack ..add in fall damage... thinking about the location...she is very dead and impaled on a nearby tree. I might have done this wrong but I figured with her out of the house and dead the Hut would lose it's magic so the house falls...With the party and the npc's inside...ok I roll for damage and 2 of the 3 are knocked to zero hp all in one turn. The monklock has an ability that if they hit zero they get hitpoints back. So he gets up heals his friends and they check on the NPC's who are all also at zero hp since they were in the basement when the house collapsed quickly they get the npcs back to full give them most of the treasure from the house and send them on their way
afterward we all have a good laugh about how in ONE TURN the Pirates player almost killed everyone and ended the game. I have never been more proud of her for doing something that should and most likely never happen again.
Howdy. Don't post here often. Keeping it short so no TLDR to maybe get people to respond.
We are playing a campaign over Discord because of the C19 crisis. We have gotten in 4 major scenes. The setting is homebrew as a post-apocalyptic setting best described as The Shannara Chronicles meets Mad Max with added dashes of Book of Eli and Walking Dead. Everyone started at First level.
The 5 players are playing survivors in a twenty-five man tribe. 20 characters are NPCs. They recently were being chased by a gang of baddies and took refuge in a walled city. They woke up the next morning to find that their 5 man patrol was dead ... well actually 4 were dead and 1 was missing. Most all interacting have been role-playing except for an encounter with a Giant Spider.
They are now a 20 person tribe with 10 NPCs. Calling themselves "Misfit Ramblers."
That is all to avoid TLDR but if you are interested ... below is the setting description:
The post apocalyptic world of Mawveth.
Nobody these days remembers clearly what really happened. I mean who would? News sources were gone. Everything was gone. Maybe it was a Dirty Bomb or an EMP from a terrorist organization. An enemy military leader might have got tired of our government's nonsense and finally poked the big red button. It might have even been a horrific accident. Either way, North America got hit with a wave of radiation that killed most of us, and made the rest sick. A bunch of folks died but some turned into monsters, The Sick Ones. It spread fast, It was unbelievable I guess. It affected the entire world. The radiation changed everything. They called it Mawveth.
It's been about three generations, I reckon since Mawveth. Humanity fell, and hard. We were plunged back into a dark age. Some of the Grammas and Grandads had skills that helped. Gramma said that she already knew how to cook, grow plants, butcher wild animals, and stuff like that. Grandad was a mechanic but he dabbled in blacksmithing and metalworks. Other people had the "old timey" skills that helped us survive. We relearned the survival skills that we needed to make it day to day. That's how we live our lives now: A Day At A Time.
In the Chronicles of Mawveth you play a survivor in a small tribe struggling to exist in a harsh post apocalyptic wilderness. Do you have the grit to make it another day?
Did a quick FaceTime with the nephew. His lizardman druid has infiltrated a sunken temple being used as a hideout by an orc war band. So far, he's crashed through the front door and gone hand-to-hand with them (I'm not sure he remembers all his spells) using Primal Savagery. One of the orcs sounded a warning horn and now the vanguard is kiting him back into an ambush. They've been rolling pretty hot and he's getting his hp whittled away, so I think it's time for him to rethink his tactics. Or maybe another nephew will show up to provide reinforcements at the crucial moment. Or to double-cross his brother. Or to tackle him irl and fight him over the iPad, while I watch helplessly. Stay tuned.

My last session was on Sunday. It went super well. We killed goblins and wolves and we got a dragon scale sword, potion of climbing and 100 gp. I'm really excited for our next session.

"If you ever ask a wizard to list the books they've read recently, prepare to be there for a solid week. " - Original.
My last session was super fun. I DMed for a group of players who included someone who played a kenku in a previous campaign. We were doing the opening chapter of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. Spoilers follow:
After raiding the Zhentarim warehouse and capturing two of the kenku, the characters started interrogating them. The one played by the former player of a kenku PC led the questioning and started with "who are you and what are you doing here?" I simply narrated that the kenku repeated back in the same tone of voice "who are you and what are you doing here?" The player just laughed and said something like "I should have expected that." After the characters started asking questions specific to the kidnapping and where they came from, I provided the clues that the kenku are supposed to provide, but it was fun to make them work for it.
Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to this week's session.
What they did. Walk around, complete a lot of goals, ****ed things up without them know it, being r* enough to aid their enemy while knowing full well that they will aid their enemy, made friends with people, cured curses, killed vampire spawns, been at festivals, misslead the guards to allow a tiger to escape. Stuff like that.
9 hours!!! How do you do it?! I'm pooped after 4!
Seven hours gets me that fulfilled, tired feeling! Haven’t done an all-nighter since high school i think.
My sessions in the last month were my first in the online category. To be honest I had always turned up my nose at playing online, but with the social situation as it is, I really see the possibilities. I mean, I also feel the setbacks, but I’m looking forward to my third session online tomorrow!
I usually play melee warriors, where fighter types or rogue types. My current online character is a sorcerer. Still feeling out the clockwork soul path, which I believe is worth pressing key mind into, but the last session ended with me firing the “burning hands” 15-ft cone into a 5-ft closet, with the bounce back knocking em to zero. We paused there, as some of the players were not present.
In my 2+ years campaign, we were prepping for the end, the final showdown with the reagent of the kingdom, the Duke. Knowing the winner of the tournament would get invited to the castle, we attempted to rig it so one of us would win. We all fought for different districts, with one of us having connections with one of the organizers of the event. All this while waiting for "The Confluence", the time when our three artifacts would need to be combined to shut down the portal beneath the city. Well..... the Duke went mad with power and released otherworldly creatures to attack the city. Fissures opened up throughout the city, and now we must find the location to combine the artifacts like NOW.
Thanks, alexarthur94. We've been having a lot of fun. The playing characters are attacking the camp of the Big Bad right now. It's a Deadly Encounter. They might not make it out. We've played 5-6 sessions now. I've been writing up the details on my blog: Mawveth Sessions.
So at the beginning I gave my brother's lvl8 fighter a iron flask, when he finally decided to open it at the end of the session, when he and his comrades were barely clinging to life, it turned out that it held a planetar. And since I the session was getting too long, I had the mere presence of this divine entity one shot the ads, and caused the boss of the session to pass out. I ended up realizing how broken my brother's character is, and homebrewed it to were he can only use the flask once a week, and it was only for extreme emergencies
Played two solo sessions on Discord today. Our Bard, Walneak, went through a portal and found himself at a bandit camp. He managed to get down into the cellar of the base, took down two bandits before getting taken down to 0 hp by the Bandit Captain. Now he will need rescued from the rest of the party when they come through the portal. Also, in another scene the Dragonborn Barbarian took on the Big Bad named Grotesque in a combat scene. He was reduced to o hp on the first round from Guiding Bolt. He's a prisoner now too. It's been a tough day for the PCs.
Meanwhile, back on the battlefield, the others are trying to make it to the portal to get away from mass combat with the bad guys who outnumber them 10 to 1. Arin, the Rogue, is down and has failed 1 of her 3 Death Saves already. Next session, we'll see what happens!

I DMed a session once where the whole party was captured (except two PCs who were not present). They ended up being captured in the following session trying to rescue the ones who were captured.

Yeah, the PCs decided to raid an enemy camp and it was way out of their league. They were outnumbered 10 to 1 and the Big Bad is a Warlord who is 20th level. He has a Wyvern that he rides. They attacked the camp and now they are now realizing that I'm not taking it easy on them. They had a boon from a Nagpa from a previous game so the Nagpa has created a gateway for them to escape. Two of them went into the gateway but the others are spread out around the camp in battle and trying to survive long enough to either run away or run to the gateway.

I just finished a campaign online on what would happen if a swift spreading virus would infect the dnd world me and my group ended up going to a temple of worship, that was for worshipping fake gods and since no one went there we where safe until dm got bored and said the virus was the cause of cuthulu after that all of our oc died of hunger.
Our party had found a certain hollyphant and fought our way (semi-successfully) through a drow hideout, claiming several magical items of notable power.
However, some of them were cursed, and our party thought it best to have these curses removed before venturing back into Hell.
So we venture to the bustling metropolis of Emon, and seek magical experts...unbeknownst to the part at this time, our Kobold Sword Bard had received an amulet that was whispering instructions to him, telling him to retrieve a key that was being held in the Martial District...you know, where the city guards report to.
Meanwhile, our Psionic Wizard "borrows" a magical scroll from a new-hire at Gilmore's Glorious Goods, and promises to bring it back before they close.
So our party splits...our Oathbreaker Paladin, my Rune Knight Fighter, and Sword Bard Kobold go to the guard outpost at dusk to steal the key our kobold apparently needs; while our Ancients Paladin & Psionic Wizard rush to return the magical scroll to the shop.
Our Oathbreaker Paladin & Rune Knight Fighter decide to "fake" a fight in front of the guard outpost to provide a distraction while our kobold Bard sneaks into the precinct and steals the key he needs.
A Natural 1 from the Oathbreaker hits a little "harder" than expected, so my gnome fighter interprets this "fake' fight to be a little more...exciting.
So my Rune Knight gnome grows to giant-size, roaring like an ogre, and brings the warhammer down on the Oathbreaker, shouting that "HE SLEPT WITH MY WIFE!"
Our Oathbreaker then "Hellish Rebukes" my Rune Knight...and suddenly, IT IS ON...!!!
Meanwhile, our kobold has rushed into the guard outpost, and shouts (Persuasion), "OH MY GODS...!! OUTSIDE!! THERE IS A FIGHT OF EPIC PROPORTIONS NEVER BEFORE SEEN! ALL OF YOU MUST SEE THIS...RIGHT NOW!!"
...and the cheeky little lizard gets a Natural 20.
Nearly all the guards come pouring out of the outpost to see the brawl happening outside between the Paladin and the Fighter. Our kobold friend then scurries to the second level, and finds the key...hanging from a wall of keys...being looked after by the only guard remaining. Shenanigans result in the kobold magically "persuading" the guard to give him the key he needs, and the kobold hastily speeds out of the guard outpost before the lone guard knows he was charmed.
While that's happening, our Oathbreaker and Fighter are really getting into their "fake" fight...the Oathbreaker has pulled out their lightning greataxe they had taken from the drow city, and my Rune Knight is making healthy use of their "frost" and "cloud" giant runes, appearing as some intimidating Frost Giant. We're taking...probably more damage than we should be taking...as guards swarm us to try and arrest us.
Like some anime fight between two powerful rivals, we just casually bat these guards aside, saying, "DON'T INTERRUPT US!".
My giant-gnome does think that maybe, perhaps, we should be luring these guards away...so with their "Mobile" feat, he runs down the street, trying to lure the guards away.
...well, unfortunately, this leaves our Oathbreaker exposed, and he suffers some nasty hits. A he goes down, he shouts, "I AM GOING TO KILL THAT GNOME...!!!"
...which, given the context of them fighting a giant-sized enemy, only confuses everybody watching.
At this moment, our Psionic Wizard and Ancients Paladin arrive to see this chaos happening, and our kobold is exiting the guard outpost.
Our party has re-united, and as usual, it's pure pandemonium.
Played a few more games over the past few days and the party discovers that the stories they learned were in fact true as there were once 4 fiends that divided up the world but greed got the best of them and a hero came and turned the 3 fiends against the water one and trapped her say in the location the pirate wants to find. The Monklock finds out his elf assistant is actually controlling 99 % of his business and is Actually an Arch Deamon named Ifrit. The Owner of the amusement area is a Lilthu and they need 4 Crystals to free the Water Fiend Leviathan. They eventually get 2 of the 4 and make it back to the only safe place they can find.
( Note the party has actively ignored combat and most of the story up to now so they are vastly under level to take on Level 17 and 20 Demons so I did the only thing I could think of I plugged in a different adventure to quickly get them from level 10 to 15)
Dragon Heist Abridged
after skipping most of the back story and cutting out Waterdeep since it's a homebrew world. It's basically now Get the keys and the stone find the tressure and try not to die
The party learns about a full-blown gang war between all the 4 factions and the Monklocks faction for this massive stockpile of gold under the city and use it to gain unlimited power in the city and the docks to control the trade route. The party learns about all the groups and what they all want and decides the best course of action is to kill all of them. UP first Manshoon, this goes very bad very quickly as the party is almost instantly attacked by animated objects. One fireball later and now the tower is on fire. They race to the top at the fighter starts combat and he starts whipping the floor with them while they barley hit him. He goes on and on how they are the worst thieves ever. After counter spelling a lot to save his ass, he starts running low on slots and tries to leave once the fire reaches his room.
He attempts to cast Light to bling them but two of the three save and knock him ( the 2nd freaking time this has happened in a battle) Out a window and he dies on impact. They get his key off his corpse, Stab him with a ritual dagger and make it look like the Cult did it.
Now the party is going back to the safe house and is plotting to find and kill Xanathar next and frame the Cult for it again.

Stay tuned.
Sounds like a cool campaign!

My last session was on Sunday. It went super well. We killed goblins and wolves and we got a dragon scale sword, potion of climbing and 100 gp. I'm really excited for our next session.

Bow down to Cats! (Cult of Cats)
Maybe three more sessions of this campaign?
Mawveth Chronicles
Oh boy!

Oh boy! Good luck to them!

So a couple of sessions ago, I tried to convince the rogue to give up his murder sword. My attempts went south and he ran off.
We heard about him this session. He's the god of war now. Quite the promotion.
Our party has re-united, and as usual, it's pure pandemonium.
...and more guards are coming.
