Okay so I'm a big fan of making a controversial character in order to have a complex development and inner controversy play out within a game. Therefore my newest experiment is a protector aasimar bloodhunter within Matthew Mercer's campaign setting (Tal'dorei but the character is from the southern continent of Marquet he also built within the same world). She is based very loosely on Princess Tamina from Prince of Persia and Aravis Tarkheena from C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia.
Protector aasimar subclass is in Volo's. Bloodhunter is a homebrew class by Matthew Mercer.
I want to hear opinions on how she should be played and what pros or cons you see from this combo. Ready, Go!
I have no clue yet! I'm open to suggestions. She's starting at lvl2 so I have a bit of time to get a feel for how I'll play her before I choose an Order.
I need a reason for whichever I choose. Her backstory is mostly she had very high expectations from her parents that left her with a skewed idea of fighting darkness and a lot of pressure to meet those expectations. She fell in love with a bloodhunter who thought she could guide him from becoming too dark--she stole the hunters bane potion instead and wanted the same power he had. Willing to weave in something that would indicate her reasoning in choosing her Order but I don't know what yet.
I know the Blood Hunter class is a very dark class, almost like if the Ranger class was made for Dark Souls or Bloodborne. You are willingly ingesting a toxic concoction to make yourself efficient at hunting the undead and extraplanar enemies. And that's before your dice even hit the table. The main gimmick of the class is hurting yourself to make yourself better at hurting the other guy. A perfect fit for Scourge Aasimar or Fallen Aasimar. It would definitely be an odd fit for Protector, but I'm sure you could do it. Your character would constantly be torn between wanting to protect those she cares about and being filled with a supernatural urge to slay certain abominations. This life of constant violence would hang over your character's desires for a peaceful life for those she cares about like a curse of sorts.
For Orders, the Order of the Ghostslayer is listed in the class description as being the oldest of the Orders. Mechanically, it has something for pretty much every campaign, and the only reason to avoid it is if you are in a campaign which is explicitly not going to have undead in it (though you and your DM could probably work something out or even disregard that bit of fluff). I don't have much to say about the Order of the Lycan, although what I said before about your character's violent life and wanting the best for those she cares about conflicting would be amped up here. Once your claws become magic weapons, it's a solid Order. Order of the Mutant involves you creating and ingesting potions that hurt and help you. Order of the Profane Soul involves you making a pact with an extra planar entity, and Celestial is an option. I don't know how it would look to play it, as much like a Ranger, your Wisdom is secondary to your Strength or Dexterity, and your spellcasting won't be as strong as a Warlock because you don't have the expanded spell lists or invocations to buff up your Eldritch Blast. That said, the blood curse that you get for the Celestial Patron looks kinda nice, especially if it recharges on a short rest.

What Order are you thinking of joining?

Thanks so much! I'm gonna talk with my DM about it too but I really appreciate the thoughts!
