We have not started our new campaign yet, but our characters are made.
I would like some input on my Polearm-Bearing Bugbear build. I will take POLEARM MASTER, SLASHER, GREAT WEAPON MASTER, probably SENTINEL, but I'm not sure in what order.
I think Polearm Master would be best. I set my STR at 19, because Slasher will give me the +1. I will also go with RUNE KNIGHT when possible.
I love playing a bugbear rune knight fighter, and sentinel is a good feat, but keep in mind that the bugbear's extra reach only applies to attacks on its turn, not on reactions outside of its turn.
I'd take Polearm Master first for the additional attack as bonus action and the Opportunity Attack variance. The feat can also benefit from your Surprise Attack trait.
Next i'd take Sentinel as it synergyse well with Polearm Master feat.
Then Slasher or Great Weapon Master since not all of their fearures are as impactful.

I was looking at some of the other feats, like FEY TOUCHED, SHADOW TOUCHED and GIFT OF THE GEM DRAGON. They're pretty neat for battlefield control. Misty Step and Invisibility can both work to help with Surprise Attack.
I would not pass up on that, but the Fighter ends up with 6 Feats. To have Misty Step and Invisibility could work very well with my 15' reach. Disguise Self for a Bugbear can be handy too, since they're usually viewed negatively.
Does anyone use HEAVY ARMOR MASTER? I'm wondering how much difference the 3 point damage reduction can make?

The Heavy Armor Master feat is very effective at low levels but not as much after Tier 2.
