My ranger is no more. RIP...until the party rezzes him, but if the Matt Mercer rez roll fails, I want to play an Archfey warlock. But there are so many options! I think I'd rather he be in melee than ranged, but our wizard likes to whip out shadow blade alongside our monk and pally, so we don't need another front-line fighter. So, what are good ideas?
Ranged tomelock
Melee tomelock, or
Melee bladelock?
Or heck, since it's archfey, I could go with that one bow invocation for a ranged bladelock. I'm swimming in options! Halp!
I've got a player that's going ranged with archfey. She was knocking pawns over left and right. After the session, I realized that she might have had agonizing blast but wasn't adding it in (we're all a little green). Not that the party wasn't rolling through dungeon as it was anyway...
If you've got access to the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide, read up on some of the different possibilities among the Archfey and see if one of them strikes your fancy for the character and gives you a clearer vision for what you want to do. My player decided that her Archfey was the Frost Prince and he tasked her with finding the reincarnated form of his lost love.
Warlock really lends itself to ranged combat. No build I've come up with can out dps agonizing blast.
Why yes I do. The celestial is my favorite patron. 2 free cantrips and a bonus action healing that puts healing word to shame. Access to a few choice cleric spells to keep everyone alive (it is no divine soul sorcerer in that aspect, but still). And the higher level features of you get to them are great (free temp HP and 1 "say no to death, kids").
Pact of the tome is my favorite pact (pact of chain is a close second). Any 3 cantrips, guidance is an easy first pick. And the book of ancient secrets invocation to take all the ritual caster feats at once (find familiar is another easy first pick). Aspect of the moon isnt so bad either.
I mostly planned to use agonizing blast and repelling blast to play a painful game of keepaway. Devil's sight and darkness to get advantage and hide. I multiclassed life cleric to get armor and more spells.

Any thoughts on the brightlock?
