Well, the point of the feat is largely to let you take advantage of the Reach on weapons. I suppose quarterstaves fit flavorfully, but they don't fit especially well mechanically.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Why does this not include the use of the quarterstaff??
You have trained extensively with pole weapons THAT HAVE REACH, granting you the following benefits...
Because they do not want people who have a shield to be able to get a BA attack.
they could just have made it require 2hands. aka, if wielding these weapons with two hands. But I think they wanted it to be property based instead of weapon specific

You gain the following benefits:
When you take the Attack action and attack with only a glaive, halberd, quarterstaff, or spear, you can use a bonus action to make a melee attack with the opposite end of the weapon. This attack uses the same ability modifier as the primary attack. The weapon's damage die for this attack is a d4, and it deals bludgeoning damage.
While you are wielding a glaive, halberd, pike, quarterstaff, or spear, other creatures provoke an opportunity attack from you when they enter the reach you have with that weapon.
not really, it was made to highlight polearm fighting, and how its a general part of the technique to attack quickly with either end, and good use of spacing.
the reach thing was just added in 5er. Its mostly changed so that people can't ba attack with shields, and probably to make casters inferior at martial fighting in general.
